I'm really excited to see Holbrook locked down. And he can be removed from the RL gossip columns. I'm enjoying the wave of good news, especially because to me it spells stability.

RE-SIGNING HOLBROOK QUITE THE BIG DEAL
THE Gold Coast Titans raised eyebrows across the NRL this week when they signed rookie coach Justin Holbrook for a further four years.
There is no doubt the Titans have improved this year since Holbrook took over from Garth Brennan and Gold Coast players rave about his coaching style and character .
But the reality is they are sitting 13th on the ladder with four wins from 15 games, can’t make the finals and are still a chance of collecting back-toback wooden
spoons.
The Titans have seen enough in Holbrook (pictured) to extend his initial twoyear term to a remarkable five years, taking him through until the end of 2024.
It is a huge investment in Holbrook, given he wasn’t offcontract until the end of the 2021 season.
But the Titans have safeguarded themselves to a degree by including performance clauses in the contract, ensuring Holbrook will have to produce results to see out the term.
Holbrook has enjoyed a honeymoon period this year after inheriting a rabble, but he has made some big changes.
Holbrook has farewelled Leilani Latu, Kallum Watkins , Shannon Boyd and Bryce Cartwright and will next season welcome big-dollar signings David Fifita and Tino Fa’asuamaleaui .
He will be expected to have the Titans in finals contention with a team that is nearly entirely his.

good to hear the club added performance clauses in. Really seem to have the front office in order.
HOLBROOK A SHINING LIGHT AMID THE COACHING REVOLVING DOOR
Anthony Seibold became the fifth coach to make his exit in 2020 last week, making it the worst season for those in the top job in the game’s history.
However, amid all the uncertainty and changes there was one man who was given a rare extension during the week.
The Titans may be set to miss the finals again this year but the club showed great faith to lock up Justin Holbrook until 2024.
He more than proved it should be a wise choice given the incredible turnaround that led to a 14-10 win over the Dragons.
The Gold Coast used to be one of the most brittle defensive sides in the competition.
On Friday, however, they built the four-point victory off the back of their work without the ball.
The Dragons had 44 tackles inside the Gold Coast red zone but were only able to score the one try.
Previously that sort of pressure would have seen the Titans crumble but they have a new-found resilience.
That has to come back to the coach.
While the finals are out of reach again for the Gold Coast, there is no doubt they are building something special.
Ashley Taylor and Jamal Fogarty combined strongly while the rest of the side played their role in defence.
With David Fifita and Tino Fa’asuamaleaui on the way to the Glitter Strip next year, they will be a strong chance of contending for the top eight next year.

It may be beautiful one day and perfect the next, but under Coach Justin Holbrook the Gold Coast is footy one day and more footy the next.
Titans v Broncos - Give the gift of footy this Father's day
“Everyone always says it (Gold Coast) is a nice place to live but for me I’ve said we’ve got to be good at footy and then the nice place to live runs second,” Holbrook said speaking to Radio 2GB’s ‘Continuous Call Team’.
“If you get the right people that really want to compete and win footy games, then where else would you want to be because it is the best place in Australia to live.
“You’ve got to get it around the right way though and I think we’re doing that and the boys showed that (against the Dragons) and the key signings we’ve got have already got a bit of an affiliation to the Club and the area.”
Holbrook says he wants his team to enjoy playing football and believes you can see the evolution within the group.
“That’s obviously the key, they’ve got to enjoy playing footy and they’ve got to enjoy playing together,” Holbrook said.
“For me it is just loving playing footy and working hard to win the games.
“It’s pretty simple but it is effective if you get it right.
“It’s how you live each day that is your standards.”
After coming close against top-eight teams in the last month, Holbrook says the performance against the Dragons was important for the side to be able to convert improvement into a win.
“We were there-abouts and not quite getting over the line, so it was really pleasing that we came away with the win,” he said.
“I’m really pleased for them to get that result because I think we’ve had some efforts like that against Penrith, the Roosters and even the Sharks before Kevin Proctor got sent off.”
The Titans will look to make it back-to-back wins this weekend when they take on the Canterbury Bulldogs at ANZ Stadium in Sydney on Saturday, before returning home to Cbus Super Stadium for the local derby against the Brisbane Broncos in Round 18.

Nice little excerpt from another article by Tallis about Bennett coming to the Broncos.
https://www.couriermail.com.au/sport...5f75b1afa1b22cBut there is no way he can take up a job where he sits over the top of the new head coach and analyses their every move.
Wayne would have never accepted someone doing that to him and it isn’t fair for him to do the same to the Broncos’ new coach.
Phil Gould is the sharpest mind in the NRL. There is no one smarter in the game.
But at Penrith he proved you cannot have two strong figures trying to coach a team.
First it was coach Ivan Cleary that was let go after apparently becoming “tired”.
Then Anthony Griffin was punted with Penrith in the finals mix after his relationship with Gould deteriorated.
Despite Gould’s intelligence, it was just too difficult a situation to make work.
Immortal Mal Meninga is in a performance and culture role at the Gold Coast Titans but the team belongs to coach Justin Holbrook.
Holbrook would bounce ideas off Meninga but at the end of the day the coach is responsible for the team’s results and must have the final say in decisions.

Coach’s presser after the Knights ... what an amazingly humble guy.
Four reasons to escape to Queensland: Sun, Surf, Sand & the Titans.
How good is it to see a coach allow himself to enjoy the game? And cheer and smile and clap. I love it.

Holbrook: If you want to compete in sport you've got be expecting to win
http://www.Titans.com.au
"I think expectation is good for us and I think it is good for our club to have that expectation on us."
Titans Head coach Justin Holbrook is welcoming the extra scrutiny (and support) for the Titans in 2021 and believes it can drive higher standards for the club.
"We need to handle it (expectation)...if you want to compete in sport you've got be expecting to win and that's what the good teams do and it's good for our area in the Gold Coast," said Holbrook.
After going down to the Warriors in round 1 the Titans bounced back with a comprehensive victory over nearest rivals, the Brisbane Broncos.
Speaking to ABC Grandstand Rugby League the Titans Coach spoke about the tough first round match and how that momentum turned the Titans way against the Broncos.
"I think Round 1 was a really tough game for us and against the Broncos we hung in there for longer," Holbrook said.
"In round 1 there wasn't a point scored in the game for the first 20, 25 minutes and then the Warriors scored, whereas against the Broncos, it was similar, but we were the ones to score first and then put on a good ten minutes late in the first half.
"You notice that now with the momentum of the game, sometimes it suits you and sometimes it doesn't."
Asked about the effect of the faster game in 2021 on the big men, Holbrook said it was on them to lift.
"We try to get them to be able to work harder for longer periods of time, because we know the ball is in play for longer now," Holbrook said.
"We have got to adapt to that and the blokes who have to deal with that the best is the big blokes in the middle of the park, so it's about getting them to push themselves to be able to do that.
"Every side has had a long pre-season and think they are the fittest in the comp but I think it is good for the game (the ball being in play longer) that the game keeps rolling."
The increased interest on the Titans has come on the back of some high-profile recruits, and a strong finish to 2020, and Holbrook believes new players lift all players around them as well.
"What it (the recruits) has done is it has created competition for spots, which lifts everyone's level," Holbrook said.
"It's mixed thoughts as a coach, you want to fit everyone in and everyone has trained well so we want to reward them, but we can't fit them all in for the early rounds.
"Every club needs depth and those players that missed out will be called upon and we need them to do a job when that time comes."
