    Steve,

Ideally, I beleive the half back role is to organise the forwards and to gain field position with his kicking game.
The 5/8 has the time to craft up a move to score the try. Good communication between those two positions and your hooker will jell the team together.

Your expectation of the half back role is too much. NSW's poor attack came from the lack of creativity in the 5/8 position.

For you to have a shot at Kimmorley's kicking in Origin 2 suggest you have a personal dislike towards the guy.
His kick/chase kept NSW in the game.

It was funny listening to Gus Gould's commentry...he was trying to pick on Kimmorley's kicking game even though he was playing well.
You two might be drinking out of the same fountain.

Just to let everyone know Kurt Gidley is injured so he can't play origin 3.

In today's game, the 6 and 7 are interchangable.
You look back at the great halfbacks, and they did a hell of a lot more than get field position. Tries came from them. Be it a pass or a kick, they knew what was on and they created opportunities.

Thurston does it, Prince does it, Gower and Orford used to do it.

The 6 is generally just as capable, taking pressure off the 7 and keeping the defence in two minds about who's going to launch the attack.

The NSW 6 and 7 both had nothing in attack.

I'm not picking on his kicking game. Just that in game 1 they were bashing Mullen's kicking because it went straight to Hunt, etc. But so did most of Noddy's kicks, yet most of the commentary team were praising it.

J-Storm, Michael Gorden a Queenslander. But replace him with Purtell if your looking for a NSW future team.

Fantastic explanation and I can't agree more. Here are some of the players that can gel together which means they should be picked. I think Orford should be ahead of Kimmorley I just think he can create more then Kimmorley and I think he has an excellent kicking game near the try line but his long place kicking on the 5th is not as good. I had serious doubts about Kimmorley in the 2nd game but he performed great and his kicking game was excellent but not when it's close to the line. Orford is fast around the rucks and sometimes can create something out of nothing. Monaghan should be at 5/8 because he can also create something out of nothing and as Chaos said Monaghan has creativity to create a try close to line unlike Anasta and he is constantly putting Manly in to the clear when there is not much of a gap. Orford and Monaghan fire for Manly when there in the halves together and they both play with Watmough and they know how to get him through the slightest gap and when Watmough is in the clear you don't have much hope of getting him because of his freakish speed for a forward and his aggression. He is also a 80 minute player so he should be picked in the starting line-up. Farah is the perfect for the person for the dummy-half spot because he can gel the trio together and this trio are play makers and thats what they need instead of a 5/8 who you hardly even see in the game and a dummy-half who can't perform when he is supposed to be one of the best. Farah should of been picked for the last game and has shown why at club level. Farah can also create something out of nothing. Monaghan probably should be the kicker because of his long kicking and he is a great 40/20 kicker. Farah is a great grubber kicker and Orford is a fantastic place kicker close to the line which Kimmorley didn't do. By the way Laffranchi should be in the team because he is like Watmough and Mona and Ox (Orford) can work with him. I beta end this reply but Laffranchi, Watmough, Monaghan, Orford, Farah and Stewart should definitely in the team. I forgot to mention something. We all know Stewart is a freak when it comes to tries but half of them come from the work of Orford and Monaghan. I hope you like my idea. By the way Farah I think is the most inform player in the comp. CYA. GO THE BLUES!!! :woot:

Thx Champ, wasn't sure if he qualified & nice to see someone let me know. I'dd edit that team I came up with then & add Purtell in Gordon's place as you suggested. There'd be worse options from what I've seen...

Must have been asleep when I wrote that. I meant to say the Broncos sans Lockyer and the Cowboys sans Thurston.

Anyway, as for changes, I'd nominate the following teams:

    NSW
    1. Brett Stewart
    2. Jarryd Hayne
    3. Matt King
    4. Ben Smith
    5. Wade McKinnon
    6. Jarred Mullen
    7. Brett Kimmorley
    13. Ryan Hoffman
    12. Nathan Hindmarsh
    11. Willie Mason
    10. Jason Ryles
    9. Danny Buderus (c)
    8. Luke Bailey

    14. Andrew Ryan
    15. Greg Bird
    16. Mark O'Meley
    17. Robbie Farrah

Did I read right that Gidley injured himself last night? I've left him out of my side on that basis, otherwise I'd consider him at 5/8 instead of Mullen, maybe on the bench instead of Ryan, although I realise this leaves us with only 1 big man on the bench. But as Bird can play lock, Hoffman can move to the second row, and Mason up front if need be, it shouldn't hurt us too much.

    Queensland
Let's face it, Queensland won't change unless forced to by injury, although I agree Bowen deserves a run.

    Jason
Go the Steelers, Dragons, Titans, West Coast Eagles, Swannies, Sydney FC, Man United, Wollongong Hawks, Blues (league and cricket) , Waratahs, Sydney Flames, Sydney Swifts, HRT, MacLaren, and whoever's playing the All Blacks or England!

Yes I agree. Bowen has been outstanding but they just can't fit him in.
But if they had put Bowen there in the first place he would of satyed and they could of smashed us (NSW) by even more. They want to probably keep the same team to because everone probably deserves to finish NSW off and they have been playing great together.

Just heard Dallas Johnson is out for last origin and Tate might be aswell. They were saying in the Courier-Mail that they might bring a titans pair into the squad. Cooper and Rogers. Also heard Simpson is out which gives them more reason to put Watmough in I think.

GAVIN COOPER!!!!!! Someone listened. Pick him Des. Rogers is really a no-brainer to replace Tate but has he retired from rep games or what?

If Tate misses Origin, hopefully he can suit up with the Baby Broncos aganist Penrith.

Ok well having seen all the matches bar the Tigers vs Broncos... here is the NSW side I'd run out for SOO3

    01. Brett Stewart
    02. Hazem El Masri
    03. Matt Cooper
    04. Matt King
    05. Jarrad Hayne
    06. Jarred Mullen
    07. Brett Kimmorley
    08. Brent Kite
    09. Danny Buderus
    10. Willie Mason
    11. Nathan Hindmarsh
    12. Anthony Watmough
    13. Reni Maitua

    14. Robbie Farah
    15. Paul Gallen
    16. Ryan Hoffman
    17. Greg Bird

    18. Mark O'Meley

Ok the reason I chose this side is because I reckon it's a strong side and ATM:

    - Jason Ryles, not that I'd have picked him is out injured
    - Kurt Gidley is out injured
    - Mark O'Meley is facing the judiciary, probably one match ban, I'd put him in on Monday morning to replace Kite
    - Anthony Laffranchi who I reckon deserved a bench spot is injured.

I reckon Gallen, Maitua, Farah and Watmough on current form deserve to be in the side... I reckon Mullen is the option at 6 consider we said we wanted to look at him at the start of the series and I reckon Kimmorley did more than enough in Game 2 to stay in the side for Game 3.

I reckon Lyon is not playing good enough ATM to keep his spot and King will be better suited to the centres where he won't come one in and leave a gaping hole for Inglis to charge into. Without a goal kicker, we need El Masri there and as an added bonus, he can defend the house down.

The rest of the side is pretty same as Game 2, they all tried their butts off and with some additional firepower, we should be more than competitive with this side.

Titanium i totally agree. Maybe Orford or Monaghan in for Kimmorley because he can not create anything in attack.

i agree. This 3rd game for NSW should be about experimenting, I'd definitely give Orford a crack, and see how he goes.

But as a QLD'er, I'd be more than happy to see Mullen/Kimmorley combo :woot:

There is no pressure for NSW in game 3, Orford could perform.
