    Wests Tigers v Titans Preview

    Wednesday, June 13, 2007 - 3:58 PM

Expect former favourite sons Scott Prince and Anthony Laffranchi to get a real razzing when they trot out for this intriguing clash.
The duo?s exit from the Tigers last year was expected to present Tim Sheens with major headaches but they?ve covered the losses well and after winning seven of their past eight games find themselves in third place.

The Titans have adapted well to the NRL with six wins, including back-to-back victories over the Rabbitohs and Raiders before the bye, elevating them to seventh on the table.

Watch out Tigers: While all eyes will be on Prince, watch for Mat Rogers to run the angles at the Tigers? outside backs.

The former Wallaby has 10 line breaks ? the second most in the comp. Outside him, Matthew Petersen will be looking to add to his tally of six tries.

Watch out Titans: Prince?s departure has allowed Robbie Farah?s talent to flourish.

He?s relishing the role of soloist as opposed to pit player, with his individual brilliance and all-round strengths pushing him to the cusp of state selection.

He?s made 399 tackles (11th most in the comp) and is the second most prolific runner from dummy-half (71 bursts for two line breaks), while his kicking game to space is among the most effective in the NRL at 65 per cent.

Where it will be won: Up the centre of the ground. Much depends on whether or not Luke Bailey backs up from Origin ? there has to be some out given he had precautionary scans on a pectoral muscle on Monday.

The Titans need his go-forward to match it with the physical Tigers pack, and they?ll also look to him to inspire their defence ? they?ve made just eight ?big hits? all year.

Anthony Laffranchi will be pumped for his homecoming; his statistics this year have been overwhelming ? fourth top tackler with 427, most hit-ups with 232 (with an average 133-metre gain per game) and third most offloads with 30.

The History: Yet to play. However the Wests Tigers grow another stripe at Campbelltown ? they?ve won five of their past seven games there.

On the road the Titans aren?t setting the world on fire, with a one-from-five record.

Conclusion: This game could have the fewest stoppages of any played this year ? the Titans are the best behaved side in the comp, conceding the least number of penalties (69); the Wests Tigers are one behind with just 70 blemishes (but with six more conceded in defence than the Gold Coast).

Both coaches will be pointing that out to the players so it?s unlikely there will be much in the penalty count either way.

Less stoppages means it will be survival of the fittest.

The key is whether Prince is given room to weave his magic ? he?s easily the best at setting up a four-pointer with a league-topping 16 try assists.

While the Tigers? defence isn?t swarming and dominant, that hasn?t made it any less effective ? Ben Galea, Dean Collis and Dene Halatau all rank in the top 12 for best one-on-one tacklers.

The Tigers are worthy favourites, but the $3 about the Titans is a silly price.

Match officials: Referee ? Tony Archer; Sideline Officials ? Paul Holland & Allen Foster; Video ref ? Bill Harrigan.
    Televised: Channel 9 ? Delayed 4pm; Foxsports 3 ? Delayed 6pm.

Just heard on the news that Delaney has a virus, so O'Dwyer is on stand by to take his place.
