Dragons ready to sack Thompson

LANCE Thomspon's manager claimed yesterday the St George-Illawarra stalwart had nothing to fear in the lead-up to a board meeting on Tuesday that is likely to end his decade-long association with the club.

Thompson has been called to appear at the club's monthly meeting to show cause why his contract should not be terminated following a month of public acrimony between the parties.

Thompson will attend the meeting with his manager, Khoder Nasser.

"We have nothing to fear," Nasser said. "We have never resorted to any lies or any form of mendacity."

However, key officials at the club are understood to have already decided to sack Thompson, who has a year left on his contract.

Thompson has received two letters from the Dragons outlining what they consider to be breaches of the club's protocol.

Those breaches include public criticism of St George-Illawarra officials and threatening text messages, allegedly sent to teammate Justin Poore.

However, it emerged yesterday Poore had dismissed the text messages and told sources he was disappointed the club had made the matter public.

your not wrong...its going to get worse before it gets better. Not the way you want to start the season.

Nope but hopefuly by end of season we have pulled together, we didnt exactly start this season the best and look where we finshed.

This will be a drawn out mess IMO.

IF Thompson gets sacked, he may just take them to court for unfair dismissal. It would not surprise me in the slightest.

Not an ideal start to the 2005/06 off-season.

Arent the dragons still over the cap? maybe they need to off-load due to the cap...and are using the text messages as an excuse to get rid of him?.

Sending text messages like that would only bring a fine. gasnier was fined for his phone message....maybe just some bad blood and they want him out?
