Turner a Titan or retired: Gallop

The National Rugby League (NRL) is continuing its tough stand over the playing future of Melbourne winger Steve Turner.

Turner agreed to join the Titans earlier this year but had a change of heart and re-signed with the Storm.

Speaking on the Gold Coast, NRL boss David Gallop said the league maintained Turner had a contractual commitment to the Gold Coast.

"If he doesn't want to play football, that's his decision, but our view certainly at the moment is that he's committed to the Titans," Mr Gallop said. "His agent has been very firm about that as well and we certainly expect him to be playing up here."

An Open Letter to Steve Turner

Simple and straight to the point, you in your short life have destroyed your word and honour, you are a deceptive and manipulative person, you lack morale fibre, integrity and above all self respect, you have wasted your opportunity to display your wonderful talent and have taken Melbourne Storm and the Gold Coast Titans as fools, you failed in your attempt to play both sides against one another because the biggest looser out of this is you, you have two choices.

1, Come up and play with the Gold Coast Titans, or.

2, Sit out of Rugby League for three years.

Also if you choose the latter the NRL have said that they will not release you out your NRL contract so as to let you play any other sport.

I hope in regards you stand firm, i don't want you coming up here to disgrace the fine Titans Jersey and the honourable people that have worked very hard to get this team up and running, so stay in Melbourne and have a very nice extended three year vacation, in the end of the day people will Steve Turner who ?.cya.

    Just one question?

Can we just force him to sit out and use the money to score another player say with a surname starting with Green from the ESL...

SERIOUSLY....get ya head into gear Steve, you ain't going to be playing if you don't come up to the GC so stop playing games and get up to the GC and play for the club that even after all the junk that has happened still wants you...

Their's really only one decision for Turner to make. The sooner he realises that, the better off, not only will the Titans be, but he'll be better for it as well.

Probably against the majority here but if a player doesn't want to play for us then I don't want him. In the long run if he isn't happy we won't get much out of him. The club doesn't need to start the season with legal worries we have plenty of players who do want to be here and I'm sure the money offered could be used on someone of similar quality.

Me personally wants to see him stand firm and has a nice three year vacation and then he'll only be fit enough to play park footy if anyone will have him, Steve Turner is a waste of space.cya. :curse:

Spot on,better for the club if you have totally committed players.

Thats not the point the club needs to show it wont roll over for anyone. Im sure the club doesnt want to go to court ,infact they try to help him but he just keeps giving them the cold shoulder.
And what quality players are left on the market i dont see any.

Its a very simple equasion he sits out for 3 years or he playes for 3 years and then he can leave.

What ever one he chooses he better stick by it.

At this moment in lamen's terms, it looks like this:

    - Steve Turner is staying strong in wanting to remain in Melbourne.

    - The Gold Coast Titans are staying in strong in wanting to have Steve Turner as part of their team for the next three seasons.

    - The NRL will not register a Melbourne Storm contract for Steve Turner.

    - Steve Turner will either a) Play for the Gold Coast or b) Sit out of rugby league all together for the next three seasons.

    - Both parties do not want to go to court to settle this though my understanding is both will if necessary which is unfortunate and a worse case scenario to be avoided at all costs.

Let's hope this talented youngster is on the field and not off it from 2007.
