Thumbs up Orara Valley 7s 2007

Orara Valley Axemen Sevens & Big Week of League

The Orara Valley Axemen Sevens Competition is held in the Orara Valley, just west of Coffs Harbour, for the third year running in 2007.

The Sevens Tournament will take place on Saturday 27 and Sunday 28 January 2007. It is part of the Orara Valley Axemen's Big Week of League, which runs from Thursday 25 to Sunday 28 January 2007.

The Sevens tournament is growing bigger and better each year, with spectator numbers growing from 15,000 in the tournament's inaugural year to approximately 20,000 in 2006. In 2007, 40 teams will be taking part, including 10 international sides, who will be battling for a record $22,250 in prize money.

The 2007 tournament will feature two-time defending champions Lebanon, 2006 runner-up Fiji Bati, 2006 crowd favourites Japan, 2005 runner-up Maltese Knights, as well as two returning NRL clubs, the Gold Coast Titans and the South Sydney Rabbitohs. A full list of teams will be published shortly.

An invitation by Maltese RL to join supporters bus to Orara Valley Sevens

Sun, countryside, Hollywood actors, rugby league legends and the very first matches of rugby league for season 2007 - the Orara Valley Sevens are only two weeks away and there are only a handful of places left on the Supporters Bus travelling from Sydney to Coffs Harbour.

From Malta to the US, Lebanon to Samoa and Japan to the Cook Islands - obscure corners of the world will be covered. Legends will regroup and promising NRL juniors will aim for a try fest along with the best CRL and Jim Beam Cup talent.

The Maltese Rugby League Association (MRLA) is extending its invitation to join their Supporters Bus, leaving Sydney on Thursday (25th Jan.) morning, in time for the Double Header at the BCU International Stadium between Malta and Japan, Cook Islands and Fiji.

"It's a great trip up the east coast and everyone is edging for their first dose of rugby league for the new season," says Maltese Rugby League official, Anthony Micallef.

"We've even tailored a package to suit the passionate rugby league supporter, covering transport and accommodation for four nights."

Micallef says that last year, supporters also had the opportunity to mingle with players, "as long as it's outside of their scheduled football commitments, the players are always happy for a chat."

Finishing fourth in their inaugural Sevens campaign and improving to third in 2006, the Malta Knights will return primed for Sevens success.

Yet, the supporters trip has broadened into an invitational opportunity for all rugby league supporters - with the Sydney Bulls, Japan, Fiji, Lebanon and the Cook Islands all confirmed starters for the 40-team-tournament.

A great opportunity for the Titans' Sydney based supporters to get up there and catch the Titans in action.

That is if they compete. The date is drawing near and there has been no officia; word of the Gold Coast's participation.
