Season 2007 will be an interesting one for the Queensland Cup, it will be different without the Clydesdales

Its good to see the Titans having a page dedicated to the Queensland Cup on their main website also.

    http://www.titans.com.au/pages/page.php?page=191

And that is where I got the information from the first post from

Can't say I've got a team I support more than any other in the QLD Cup, but I emensly enjoy watching as much of it as I can when I can on Fox, which sadly is about a game a week, delayed a week too.

Some amazing talent running around. I really wish we got more coverage of the younger grades of footy. I'd watch as much of it as I could if we had access to all Premier League and QLD Cup. Be an excellent insight into the future of our game.

Central Comets Have Hard Yards Ahead of Penrith Showdown

    Courtesy of the Gladstone Observer

A TRIMMER, fitter and younger Central Comets outfit have promised to take it to the Penrith Panthers when they meet at Marley Brown Oval next month.

The match is the final opportunity for players to impress new coach Steve Anderson, ahead of the Comets first match of the 2007 Wizard Queensland Cup season against Souths Logan Magpies on March 17.

?The Gladstone trial will be our fourth of the off-season and the squad for the match will be very close to full strength,? Anderson said.

Since arriving to take over from Matt Parish last October, Anderson has put his players through a gruelling pre-season in a quest to have the squad primed for the 2007 season.

Among those players is young Gladstone Brothers product Brendan Gibb who has joined the Comets top squad this season.

?When I first arrived I told the squad it was going to be difficult and the last few months has been a very big ask on the players,? Anderson said, highlighting they had trained six days a week, with some sessions lasting four hours.

?I set the benchmark very high but to their credit, while they have struggled at times, the guys have toughed it out and I can?t compliment them enough for their attitude.?

And it?s this attitude that Anderson is hoping his side can bring to the trials, including the clash with Penrith that is expected to be played in front of a capacity crowd at Marley Brown Oval.

?This game gives the coaching staff a chance to look at different combinations for the season,? he said. As for the season, Anderson wasn?t making any major predictions.

?Like any team when you head into a new season you always have a focus on finishing near the top,? he said.

?Our focus however is performance and getting that area of our game right.?

?If we can do that then the wins will look after themselves.?

Central Comets play Penrith on February 24.

    Jarrod Aims For Impact

Courtesy of the Queensland Times / By Michael Hillier

LIKE most wingers, Jets speedster Jarrod Biggs loves to score tries. But the 20-year-old Ipswich flyer won?t be using the try-scoring sheet to judge his form in the new Queensland Wizard Cup season.

After playing 10 top grade games with the Jets in a mixed 2006 season, Biggs now realises that he needs to improve his general play.

His new goal is to make an ?impact? every time he touches the ball.

?I need to get more involved,? the Raceview-based footballer said yesterday.

?I need to make breaks when the team needs it.?

Biggs is desperate to impress new coach Kevin Walters when the Jets open their pre-season campaign against Easts at Langlands Park on February 17.

?It?s going to be tough,? Biggs said when quizzed about his prospects of winning a starting spot in the Wizard Cup side.

?Obviously the new coaches don?t know much about us. I might have to start the season in (FOGS Cup) A grade and work my way up.?

Biggs, whose favourite player is Newcastle halfback Andrew Johns, has been one of the best performers on the training paddock. T

he Brothers junior has shrugged off a nagging hip injury throughout the pre-season.

?I wish I could tell you what it is,? Biggs said of the lingering injury.

?It might have been something from a game last year.?

Biggs said the players had responded brilliantly to the coaching methods implemented by Walters and high-profile assistants Glenn Lazarus and Darren Smith.

?All the guys who have been there before like what we?ve been doing,? Biggs said.

He said Walters had introduced a new and improved structure of play to the Jets.

The Jets open their Queensland Cup campaign on March 17 against the Burleigh Bears at Pizzey Park.

But the season hasn't even started yet! So it's to early as the season hasn't even started..

Just that Redcliffe are such a huge club with heaps of resouces and their only concern is the QLD CUP not having to many players back up or aspiring to NRL!

And I like the feel of the Peninsula- the locals love the Dolphins! Still their first priority!! It excites them to see Redcliffe win .... A bit old fashioned but I think it's cool!

Young Guns give glimpses of talent
By Adam Watkin - Townsville Bulletin

The superior fitness of the NQ Young Guns proved too much for the Burdekin Roosters on Saturday night in Ayr.
NQ comfortably won the pre-season rugby league trial 48-0 after going into halftime leading 32-0.
After three and a half months of off-season training the Young Guns were always going to be a far fitter and more professional side than the Roosters.
However, NQ Young Guns coach Matt Parish, said his players should not get too far ahead of themselves after he described their second half as 'disgraceful'.
"It was a pretty fair effort without getting too carried away," Parish said.
"But the second half was disgraceful to be honest, there was a lot of dropped ball.
"Our fitness was very good but I think players were trying too hard and at times we didn't have team cohesion."
Parish said Scott Bolton and James Frizzo had very good games and they impressed him with their individual performances.
"Frizzo, he was outstanding, every time he got the ball he looked dangerous," Parish said.
"He's one of those guys who have worked very hard in the off-season. Ray Thompson also played really well for his first game of senior footy and so did our four front-rowers."
The NQ Young Guns fielded 12 players who were 20 years of age or younger.
"Our oldest player was 23 so it was a young side. I don't want to be too critical of them, it was their first match together," Parish said.
"I think the match was a good solid effort and it is something that will put us on the front foot to begin the season.
"They'll probably be the stars of the Cowboys over the next four or five years.
"But they still have a lot of work to do."
The Young Guns head to Ingham this Saturday night to face the Herbert River Crushers.

    NQ Young Guns 48 (B.Boor 2, T.Laesini 2, M.Rose, J.Frizzo, K.Wilkinson, S.Bolton, R.Bartlett tries; B.Payne 6 goals) def Burdekin Roosters 0
