Dallas knocks back Gold Coast offer

FORMER Kangaroos winger Brett Dallas is facing premature retirement after knocking back an offer to play for the Gold Coast next season.

Dallas was hoping to reignite his NRL career after seven seasons with English Super League side Wigan, but wasn't prepared to move again after settling his young family back in Sydney.

The Titans, resigned to the fact defiant winger Steve Turner won't be joining them next year, were hoping Dallas would boost their depth in the outside backs.

But the 31-year-old speedster wasn't prepared to accept a one-year deal and will end his career unless a Sydney club makes an offer in the coming months.

"Brett had a reasonable offer from the Titans, but he weighed up the cost of relocating with his family and decided against it," player agent Sam Ayoub said.

Likewise, Cronulla assistant coach Adrian Lam knocked back an offer to coach Les Catalans in the Super League to remain in Sydney.

The Bulldogs have started talks to retain Test prop Mark O'Meley and Kiwi star Sonny Bill Williams.

O'Meley is contracted until the end of 2007 but will go onto the open market if the Bulldogs are unable to upgrade his deal.
