TENNIS wife Bec Hewitt scored a dress code violation yesterday, breaking racewear regulations by wearing shorts to Flemington.

Victoria Racing Club officials confirmed that the casual look would "ordinarily be banned" from the exclusive members-only area of the racetrack.

However, "an exception" was made for Bec, who slipped past guards and into the Birdcage, oblivious to the sartorial stir she had created.

The former soap star and her tennis champion husband Lleyton held court in the Emirates Marquee, where Bec's attire was all the buzz.

The mother of one described her Fendi shorts suit and Bettina Liano bra top as "a safe option on a wintry day".

"It's just something I had in the wardrobe ? a dress would have been blowing up in this wind," she said.

Still, the cold weather hardly worried the Hewitts, who stayed holed up with their entourage, including Kate Ritchie and Justin Melvey, in one corner of the marquee.

Lleyton shouted his trademark, "C'mon" at a TV screening of the Cup in an attempt to will Pop Rock home, but lost his money to this year's winner, Delta Blues.

A VRC spokeswoman said Bec's racewear booboo, was "a Jean Shrimpton moment", alluding to the 1965 scandal when the UK model horrified traditionalists by wearing a mini skirt to Flemington.

"Shorts are a new thing at the races, but still, they don't meet our dress code. I don't know why (Bec) was allowed in, but obviously an exception has been made."

Home and Away star Ritchie looked stunning in a strapless, red Wayne Cooper mini dress with tiny white polka dots.

"It's been a lot of fun catching up with friends, especially Kate," said Bec.

Jen girls get away with just about everything when it comes to clothing at clubs. But no club lets anyone get away with wearing trakkies and thongs..no matter if you're male or female..

Ohhhhhh yeah.. as far as I know there are still dress codes at the races, especially in certain areas.

I dont even buy the Womens Mags!
Only read them when at the Dr's etc! which isn't often...thank god!
So by the time i read the stories, they are 10 months old!

Don't forgot Simone (ex-Warney).. I don't hate anyone but I find the constant over-exposure of certain people in the media rather annoying e.g. Lleyton and Bec
