Default Storm to set up Junior base in Central Coast

Storm gives Central Coast team to cheer
    Wednesday, October 18, 2006

Storm CEO Brian Waldron announces partnership with Country Rugby League and the Central Coast

The pathway to the NRL became a far easier one for Central Coast juniors with the announcement that the Country Rugby League (CRL) and the Melbourne Storm have formed an alliance to establish the Central Coast Storm Rugby League Club commencing in Season 2007.

Under the arrangement, Melbourne Storm will provide funding and elite coaching to Central Coast junior representative teams with the Central Coast Rip junior representative sides to be known as the Central Coast Storm from season 2007 onwards.

CRL Chief Executive Terry Quinn said: "The CRL are excited and enthusiastic at the Storm becoming the newest member of the Country Rugby League community.

"The partnership will be beneficial to the Central Coast in that it will offer the local players a clearer pathway to elite level competition, and hopefully the NRL.

"It enables young players to be able to stay on the Coast and play at the highest level possible."

Melbourne Storm CEO Brian Waldron said: "We are thrilled to partner with the CRL and provide a pathway for the juniors on the Central Coast to aspire to be an NRL player with the Melbourne Storm.

"This arrangement will compliment the significant inroads the Storm has made in developing Rugby League at grass roots levels in Victoria where participation rates in schools have tripled in the past two years.

"Our Victorian representative sides have made outstanding improvement in all representative carnivals this year and we will continue to develop and nurture home grown talent, at the same time expanding the pool of youngsters to ensure the Storm's on field success.

"We see ourselves as a national team and the Central Coast is a traditional rugby league heartland for the Melbourne Storm to grow its brand.

"We are also thrilled to give the 400,000 Central Coast residents a representative side in the State's Premier Competition to support along with an NRL team."

The Central Coast Storm will field Harold Matthews, SG Ball and Jersey Flegg teams in next year's NSWRL competitions, with the plan for a Premier League side to be established for Season 2008. Under this arrangement the Central Coast Storm will be the Melbourne Storm's feeder Club from 2008 onwards.

Former Melbourne Storm backrower and Muswellbrook junior Jamie Feeney has been appointed coach of the Jersey Flegg team. In his role Jamie will also oversee the fitness and conditioning of the Harold Matthews and SG Ball junior programs.
This is absolutely fantastic news. Not only will it give us a Premier League team to fall back on, but it seemingly gives us the ideal opportunity to select quality Central Coast youngsters to get into the Melbourne Storm system.

I tip my hat off to you Mr Waldron!

Many thanks to Super Cronk for the great banner!

The RIP suck at the moment but thats proabably cause We Newcastle take most of there good players. The Central Coast is a good catchment area though and it will help in Melbournes Future.

Wow, absolutely awesome news. I don't know why it wasn't thought of beforehand but at least it has been acted upon now finally. Another great step by Mr Waldron as Philstorm has said, what a find he has been for Melbourne Storm since his appointment... Well Done to all who are part of the organisation

Victoria wont fail however im expecting a sydney team to fall within the next 10 years and take the $8 million carrot to relocate.
How ever the Storm wont have it all their own way as the Mariners are the only national team located on the Coast.Hopefully the storm havent arrived too late.

Stop pretending to be so concerned.

If you actually bothered reading the article, you'd see the plan for junior development within Victoria.

    Thought as much.

Just goes to prove what kind of a person you are when you attempt to feign sympathy on an online forum.

    Storm makes impact on coast
    By Karl deKroo
    October 19, 2006

MELBOURNE Storm yesterday confirmed it would move its junior base from Queensland to the New South Wales Central Coast next season.

Under the new arrangement, Storm would provide funding and elite coaching to Central Coast junior representative teams, with the Central Coast Rip junior representative sides to be known as the Central Coast Storm.

The partnership will be expanded further in 2008, with Storm to also base its feeder side on the Central Coast and compete in the Sydney Premier League.

"We are thrilled to partner with the CRL and provide a pathway for the juniors on the Central Coast to aspire to be an NRL player with the Melbourne Storm," Storm boss Brian Waldron said.

"This arrangement will complement the significant inroads the Storm has made in developing rugby league at grass roots levels in Victoria, where participation rates in schools have tripled in the past two years.

"Our Victorian representative sides have made outstanding improvement in all representative carnivals this year.

"We will continue to develop and nurture homegrown talent, at the same time expanding the pool of youngsters to ensure the Storm's on-field success."

The move is also expected to see several Sydney-based clubs switch their home games against Storm to the Central Coast Stadium at Gosford next season.

Former Storm back rower Jamie Feeney has been appointed coach of one of the junior sides.

He will also oversee the fitness and conditioning of the entire junior program.

This is good news for the Central Coast and even better for NSW, as the Storm have a alliance with the Norths Devils in QLD. We will get to see some talent from the Central Coast and the Storm will showcase it I think.
