Well, if they are never going to revert back to an afternoon grand final, then why not play the Grand Final on a Saturday night?

Do I have to point out to a QLD'er that the NRL (based in Sydney) don't give a toss about QLD'ers getting up for work on Monday?Originally Posted by Steelers
That and they've got no reason to. Look at the ratings thread in here, until that starts to say it'd be better on another night, it will not change. And it would be a bit silly to run both AFL and NRL grand finals on the one night.
Bruno is right 100% behind an afternoon grand final, my reasons are...
- Tradition: I love the Sunday afternoon final and the lunchtime BBQ and ability to go out and celebrate afterwards at a decent time.
- Children: I would like more children to be able to see the game, to be able to view it and see it and not have to worry about going to bed late.
- Atmosphere: The AFL have it right, if we could have the final on during the late afternoon, we could have the game preview from morning, creating a bigger atmosphere.
The only negatives I can see are players in lower grades playing in the heat of the day, which is not good for health and those who work on Sunday.
My solution is to start the grandfinal at 4:30pm/5pm... I know its a strange hour, but it is the perfect time of the day, enabling the game to finish early enough for kids to go to bed at a reasonable time and fans to go party and still wake up for work the next day...
But that's just my opinion, I know that the money driven game will ensure we have night finals for a long time to come.
First of all, the AFL GF is in the afternoonOriginally Posted by Capital_Shark
Second of all, the AFL grand final is on the last Saturday of September. The NRL is currently on the first Sunday of October. If the GF was to be moved to Saturday Night, it would more than likely be on the first Sunday of October, meaning that they weren't on the same day
We had a BBQ yesterday, fired it up about 4. The game was over at about 9:45PM, how early do you wanna go out?Originally Posted by Bulldog_Titan311
Once again, the game finished at around 9:45PM. Its school holidays. Any kid able to appreciate the game is gonna be able to cope with going to bed an hour or so later.Originally Posted by Bulldog_Titan311
No way! Thats what good about having it later on a Sunday. No one wants to get up early on a Sunday. Some people like AFL and NRL, if they celebrate the AFL on Saturday with a few drinks, game preview from morning is not an option. It'll also effect people who wanna drive up to Sydney on the Sunday morning for the game.Originally Posted by Bulldog_Titan311
Thats all fair enough, but it wouldn't have worked this weekend.Originally Posted by Steelers
Anyhow, until something, like the loss of funds or the opportunity to make more, justifies a change from Sunday night, its not gonna happen.
im not fussed what time it is on, but i would like to see the public holiday on the monday in the sunshine state, especially with night final

Hardly late at all, infact it finished earlier then the Friday and Saturday Night 7:30 games which happen every week...For the record the 8:30 kick off time didn;t really bother me, it just meant returning home at 3:30am...
DAY is better

Next thing you know broncos will be pushing for their own competition (Whoops, too late!!)
Bring it back to a Sunday arvo and keep the family tradition where you have your mates around for a BBQ, and use what ever you have (if ya dont have a footy) as a make shift footy for a game of touch (tackle to some) and just have a good day even if ya team not in.
You can still do that an night time..Originally Posted by Dragons

I like the evening grand finals purely because it means i can watch it at a sensible hour rather than having to get up at like 4am.
Although the FA cup is played in England in the afternoon and it wouldnt feel right having that in the evening so i understand where people are coming from.
I don't mind night games, love going to them, yada yada yada.
But grand final. If my team wins (like in 2003), I'd love to have a few celebratory drinks. Instead i'm heading for the door to go home and get some sleep before work.
I COULD take the day off, but it's not always doable.
If they want it at night, make it a saturday night.
Who Cares What The Broncos Say. I Hate Them.
. Boo. :bored:
