    McGuire returns
    by Scott Dickson
    Tuesday May 30, 2006

CASEY McGuire is set to reunite his successful fill-in hooker partnership with Ian Lacey after being named to return from injury against the New Zealand Warriors at Ericcson Stadium on Sunday.

McGuire has been named as the Ergon Energy Broncos no.9 after missing the past three rounds with a torn pectoral muscle suffered against Newcastle in round nine.

The return of the Queensland Origin star means Lacey drops back to the bench after the 21-year-old playmaker impressed as starting rake in last weekend?s win over Canterbury.

Brett Seymour, who shared dummy-half duties with Lacey against the Bulldogs, is 18th man.

Rookie Lacey joined utility McGuire as casualties against Newcastle who ended the pair?s three from three winning record when back-ups to the club?s only specialist rake Michael Ennis, who suffered a season ending knee injury in round 5.

With Lacey regularly easing the pressure on McGuire who is generally replaced by the pint-sized impact player when rivals tire in the second half, the Broncos downed the Roosters, Penrith and Canberra.

With Maroons no.3 Justin Hodges ruled out for three to five weeks after tearing his hamstring in Origin one, Shaun Berrigan remains in the centres with Brent Tate.

Berrigan, who easily won his centre battle against Canterbury?s Kiwi star Sonny Bill Williams, will have another chance to press for a Queensland no.3 jersey if Test centre Clinton Toopi returns to the Warriors side.

A utility off the bench last Wednesday night, Berrigan has come into the mix for a Maroons starting role after the Origin hopes of Bulldogs Test centre Willie Tonga were dashed by a hamstring injury against the Broncos.

Tough running and tackling forwards Tonie Carroll, Brad Thorn and Corey Parker could also earn Queensland selection after the NSW pack trampled their smaller rivals in the Blues 17-16 series opener win.

The first-placed Broncos have won six of their last seven matches, while the second-last placed Warriors have lost three of their last four following last weekend's 34-20 defeat to Cronulla.

I think the Broncos will win this one, but the Warriors always seem to play really well against the Broncos. Nice to see McGuire back.

Yeah I think we lost both games against them last year, I think or I might be thinking of diff games. But they always seem to play their best against us. Which is why our form from last sat needs to go into this game.
