It is a huge number, it is basically a sell out.

You have to remember PS3 only launched in America with a mere 400,000 units and only 100,000 for the Japanese launch.

yea true, but i just thought it would have been more...for japans population, 300 odd thousand doesn't seem too much...actually now i think of it, that is a fair amount for a console...

This would be the only reason why I would buy a Wii:

Nintendo Pushing For GoldenEye 007 On New Wii Console

Written by Devin Zydel on 29 Nov, 2006

Still labeled by many 007 fans as the best James Bond game ever, the popular GoldenEye 007 may be making a big comeback - reports HEXUS.

In an interview with MTV, Nintendo of America President, Reggie Fils-Aime has revealed that his company is doing everything in their power to bring back the GoldenEye 007 game for the new Wii console, which was released only a few days ago.

?Would I love to see it on virtual console? Absolutely. But there are a lot of issues there,? he said. ?Suffice it to say we would love to see it, so we?re exploring all the rights issues.?

What some of these issues entail is that both Microsoft (which purchased U.K.based Rare Ltd, the company behind GoldenEye 007) and Activision, the current holder of the Bond video game rights, would have to agree on this title being released once more.

    Time will tell?

The wait for Wii is over
    Asher Moses
    December 7, 2006

Thousands of gamers queued up around the country for the midnight launch of the Nintendo Wii game console last night.

Events were held at stores nationwide, including EB Games, Toys R Us, The Gamesmen, Harvey Norman and numerous smaller specialist gaming outlets.

EB Games was the most enthusiastic about the launch, holding midnight events at most of its Australian stores, said Brad Harker, EB Games' director of stores for Australia and New Zealand.

Justin Turner, 26, lined up with his partner at the EB Games outlet at Centrepoint in Sydney's CBD.

"I feel like a kid again," he said.

"We've essentially been playing the same games for the last 20 years ? this [the Wii] is something different."

Others, like Tony Maclennan, 27, trekked to the store at midnight to be part of the launch atmosphere.

"It's like the true geeks and nerds come out at midnight," he said, adding "once you're a Nintendo fanboy, you're a Nintendo fanboy for life".

Thomas Macleod, 27, agreed with Mr Maclennan's sentiments: "I've been a Nintendo fan since the Super NES ? I wanted to get it [the Wii] as soon as possible so I can play it tomorrow morning."

Yesterday, Mr Harker said he expected the launch to be "one of our most successful Nintendo launches ever".

Nintendo had similar expectations. A company spokesman said: "Australian retail feedback suggests Wii is heading towards being the biggest launch of any new video games system in history."

According to Nintendo, the largest of last night's launches was held at EB Games' Chadstone store in Melbourne, featuring "dress up competitions, Wii tennis tournaments, prizes and giveaways".

Midnight events have fast become tradition for games console debuts, as they allow keen gamers to collect their pre-ordered consoles the second they're authorised for sale.

After fulfilling their pre-order demand, Mr Harker said that EB Games outlets would today "have a supply for walk-in customers [who haven't pre-ordered], but it will be limited".

Nintendo declined to specify the number of Wii consoles that had been shipped to Australia, but a spokesman said he expected the initial batch to sell out fast.

The Australian debut follows similar midnight launches in the US and Japan. Both were highly successful, with gamers queuing up outside their local retailers for hours.

Nintendo said that in the US it had sold more than 600,000 Wii units in the first eight days of them going on sale.

That was a rate of nearly one a second, the company said.

The Japanese launch, held this week, was even more successful. Virtually all of the 400,000 units initially shipped to the country sold out on day one.

A bitter rivalry will now begin between the Wii and Microsoft's Xbox 360, as both consoles compete for sales this Christmas.

Microsoft has sold over 100,000 Xbox 360 units in the seven months since its launch, which it says makes it the fastest-selling games console in Australian history.

David McLean, Microsoft's Xbox regional director for Australia and New Zealand, expects this success to continue over Christmas.

"With our huge range of games and accessories, Xbox 360 offers a complete entertainment package for all ages," he said.

But prospective buyers will soon have another choice, the Sony's Playstation 3, which is set to be released in Australia in March.

Nintendo says the price for the Wii is one of its biggest advantages - the Xbox 360 is selling for around $650, while the Wii is $399.95.

The Wii is also expected to appeal to those who don't regard themselves as gamers.

Its core differentiating factor is the unconventional user interface. Users interact with the Wii using a wireless controller that is shaped like a conventional television remote.

Players can control the in-game action by waving the controller through the air. "For example, in the Wii tennis game, players swing the Wii remote like a racquet to hit the ball, as in real life," the company said.

"They can add topspin or slice the ball just by angling their hands and wrist like they would in a real match."

Nintendo has also announced a "nunchuk" controller, which connects to the regular Wii remote and, due to its hand-fitting shape, is ideal for use with action and sports games.

Any chance of some more impressions of the system DIEHARD?

I didn't pick one up mostly because I don't have the funds to do so. I also think it's better for me to wait as I have no strong interest in any of the launch titles. I'd much rather buy one along with a game I really want.

Rest of the day? This kid wont sleep for a week playing this thing. You've no idea how much he loves Nintendo. Taking the controller off him would be like pinching a banana off king kong, not a bright idea.

Hi, just got back from a Wii party. Spent all night playing and still havent slept yet.

It was awesome, we played mainly Wii Sports and Wii Play.

Baseball and bowling are the best, boxing is great but really physical we were puffing and sweating from some really tight and hard fought battles.

Zelda is the best game EVER.

Played a bit of call of duty, loved the controls.

The controller is fantastic, as soon as you pick it up, it feels natural. The motion sensor tech is fantastic and it makes the simpliest things very fun and we also loved how the console makes you actually be active and stand up and move around.

Im so tired and incoherent, just thought I'd share some thoughts. Im off to play ZELDA!!

Oh and Capital Shark knows me VERY well, me and him go WAY back, YEARS AND YEARS! He has me worked out. But we are both big Nintendo fans! Especially back in the N64 years.

Im looking forward to getting Wario. I tell you an olympics game on this would be amazing or a new california games!!
