The game will also act as a fundraiser for the Cyclone affected areas of Nth Qld.

This Saturday's game at Dairy Farmers Stadium against the Melbourne Storm will be used to generate much needed funds for victims of Cyclone Larry.
CEO of the Toyota Cowboys, Peter Parr announced today that the club would be backing the relief appeal, "This, has been a terrible disaster right in the heartland of our club," Parr said.
"In partnership with the Townsville City Council we will be assisting the relief appeal by collecting donations at the gates before the main game against Melbourne this Saturday."
Queensland and Cowboys Winger Ty Williams whose family reside at the most effected town of Innisfail will be putting his full support behind the fundraising, "Innisfail is my home town and to see what this Cyclone has done is very disturbing," Williams said.
"I would encourage everyone to assist in donating to this appeal, I know a lot of my friends sure need a hand at the moment."
Mayor Cr Mooney kicked off the Cowboys Game Day fund raising with a $50,000 donation from the Townsville City Council.
"This donation is a commitment on behalf of our local community, who are concerned for the welfare of the residents of Innisfail and surrounding districts. Devastating events like Cyclone Larry bring North Queenslanders together, because we all appreciate the common threat we face.
"It's vital that during these difficult times that we stand united as a community and help one other. I encourage other local governments and the corporate community to use the Cowboys Game Day on Saturday as an opportunity to give generously to the Premier's Relief Appeal for Innisfail and surrounds," Cr Mooney said.
In addition the National Rugby League has donated $10,000, the NQ Toyota Cowboys Football club and Cowboys Leagues Club have donated $15,000 and the Glen Alpine Group, who are the game day sponsor this Saturday have cancelled the fireworks and donated the costs to the appeal.

I really hope that Craig Bellamy goes with the side form las' week. Seeing Steve Turner get some serious game time is a blessing in disguise i think, not 1 member of the teams from the 1st 2 weeks deserves to not be there. They'll have learnt from las' week's comeback by the Roosters as well. Consistency is the key to success...

    Match Report courtesy of www.sportal.com.au
The North Queensland Cowboys have taken their third win of the new campaign with a 40-8 thumping of the Melbourne Storm at Dairy Farmers Stadium.

The Cowboys have now won 16 of their past 19 home matches, and remain one of only three undefeated teams in the NRL after three rounds.

Reigning Dally M winner Johnathan Thurston starred for North Queensland, scoring two tries, setting up another and kicking eight goals from eight attempts in a stellar 24-point performance.

North Queensland had the game's opening try after six minutes when Thurston sent winger Neil Sweeney in with a great cut-out pass, and the hosts led 12-0 when back-rower Luke O'Donnell charged over in the 10th minute.

The Cowboys edged further ahead with a penalty goal to Thurston, before Melbourne got onto the scoreboard with Matt Geyer crossing in the left corner.

Speedy centre Ty Williams stepped his way through the Storm defence to score the Queenslanders' third try on the half hour, and the home side went into the half-time break holding a comfortable 20-4 lead.

After conceding another penalty goal early in the second term, Melbourne grabbed their second try when Jake Webster pounced on a well-weighted grubber from Scott Hill.

But Thurston killed off the challenge from the Storm, taking an intercept and running 45 metres to score before slotting his second sideline conversion of the night.

Thurston went in again minutes later to give the Cowboys a 34-8 buffer with 15 minutes to play.

Paul Bowman then crashed over to complete the rout for North Queensland, who look one of the competition's danger sides at this early stage of the year.

    Cowboys 40
Tries: Thurston 2, Sweeney, O'Donnell, Williams, Bowman
    Conversions: Thurston 6
    Penalties: Thurston 2

    Storm 8
    Tries: Geyer, Webster

I thought this would be a pretty close game between two of the best teams in the NRL. This result was a surprise. But good work for the Cowboys.

Disappointing performance by the Storm.Seemed to be getting back into the game early in the 2nd half but didn't take advantage of their chances.Russell Smith didn't help either side particularly the Storm,he would have to be the worst ref going around.Cowboys look to be top & despite Storm's poor performance last night I still feel they are a likely top 6 side. The early road games for Storm have made it tough.
