FIFITA WILL KEEP TITANS WAITING

The future of barnstorming edge forward David Fifita remains under a cloud at the Gold Coast Titans as rival clubs prepare to launch mid-season moves for the Maroons star.

Fifita has baulked at taking up a two-year contract option in his favour and will wait to make his decision at the round 10 deadline.

Titans coach Des Hasler was hoping to have the deal done by now, not wanting it to drag out and become a possible disruption.

Fifita has not trained with the NRL squad since undergoing surgery last December for a partial pec tear.

He is not expected to play until round 3 of the competition.

Fifita’s manager Michael Hudson says the player has given him no indication he wants to leave.

“He hasn’t asked me to look at what might be available at other clubs,” Hudson said,

“We’ll just have to wait and see how it pans out.”

Au contraire … it’s a long season and we have the bye in week 2 plus their replacements will dig deep to show their worth against the Dragons, limiting complacency. I’m ok with it and a steady build up to full strength.

I'm excited about the trials. I hope the first one is our chance to see our young players aim up and compete for Des' attention. I believe the teams are capped at 28, so that's a big chance for everyone to get a run. In saying that, Des may also choose to take the trails deadly seriously with top players to work on new combinations or systems and that's fine with me if he does. Trust in Des.

But in my crazy sick mind, this is the team I'd like to see take the field next week:

They're the guys I'd love to see in action, with a few experienced players around them.

The following week, I hope we're full strength but I'd stsrt Verrills and play Randall off the bench. I'd like to see the team start without the heavy lifting that Randall brings. With Dave injured, I'd also start Haas and carry Stimson on the bench as cover but hopefully just as a middle. You'd think if 28 can play, the whole top 30 without the two injured players would be in that one. But I'd love to see some big performances in the first trial to disrupt selections for the second one.

Heh! I was notorious for being harsh on kids swearing in games I reffed. Once sent five Under 13 kids off in one game for it.
