    2023 saw Josiah Pahulu return to the Burleigh Bears with Josiah Pahulu named to make his Queensland Cup debut in Round Three of the 2023 competition off the bench for the Bears against the Redcliffe Dolphins and what a debut the young forward had.

    After coming onto the field in the 24th minute Josiah Pahulu was immediately into the action with a hit-up from thirty eight metres out from his own try line and to the left of the play the ball with Josiah Pahulu cutting off his right foot just prior to the defensive line to get the ball to the halfway mark.

    Then in the 28th minute from ten metres out from his own try line and to the left of the play the ball Josiah Pahulu was able to get the ball over the twenty metre mark against a determined Dolphins defensive line.

    Josiah Pahulu continued his strong Queensland Cup debut in the second half with a strong run in the 50th minute when from the right of the play the ball twenty metres out from his own try line and in the centre of the field Josiah Pahulu broke a tackle as he made fourteen metres. Then in the 55th minute two passes to the left of the dummy half Josiah Pahulu executed a lightning quick play the ball after making twelve metres to twenty metres out from the try line.

    In the 59th minute Josiah Pahulu took a hit-up from twelve metres out from his own try line to the left of the play the ball and after engaging the Dolphins defensive line Josiah Pahulu was able to get his left arm free and get an off-load away to his left.

    Josiah Pahulu also acquitted himself well defensively including a strong tackle in the 44th minute with a driving tackle on the Redcliffe No. 16 as he was trying to get the ball away with Josiah Pahulu’s effort forcing a Redcliffe knock on. Then after Burleigh had taken possession Josiah Pahulu took the next hit-up to the right of the play the ball with Josiah Pahulu making ten metres.

    Then in the 79th minute the Redcliffe No. 16 made a half break from thirty metres out from his own try line but Josiah Pahulu willed himself to his left to bring the Dolphins ball runner down from behind to force a loos pass which the Bears were able to pick up and go immediately onto the attack.

    Playing forty five minutes Josiah Pahulu ran for 152 metres (thirty four post contact), broke a tackle, played the ball at a lightening quick 2.72 seconds and made fifteen tackles at a tackling efficiency of 93.75%.

    Titan Vaka Sikahele started from the bench for the Burleigh Bears in the Round Four Queensland Cup local derby against the Tweed Heads Seagulls with Vaka Sikahele once again spending time both at lock and at dummy half after coming onto the field in the 21st minute.

    Vaka Sikahele recorded a line break assist in the 59th minute when after running the ball into the defensive line to the left of the dummy half, Vaka Sikahele whilst engaged with two defenders got a left arm flick off-load away to the left to his five eight who made a long line break downfield.

    Vaka Sikahele showed that he is not intimidated by anyone when with his first run of the match in the 25th minute, Vaka Sikahele ran straight at former NRL player Ryan James when running the ball to the left of the play the ball as Vaka Sikahele carried the ball to less than ten metres from the try line.

    Vaka Sikahele did well defensively in the 58th minute when after the Seagulls hooker made a line break out of dummy half Vaka Sikahele chased him and caught him from behind just ten metres out from the try line after he had stepped the Bears fullback and appeared to have an impeded run to the try line before Vaka Sikahele’s timely intervention.

    The Round Four Queensland Cup local derby saw Klese Haas start at right second row for the Tweed Heads Seagulls against the Burleigh Bears with Klese Haas making a strong run in the 15th minute from a Seagulls penalty tap restart thirty metres out with Klese Haas getting the ball two metres inside the attacking twenty metre zone.

    Then in the 18th minute from three metres inside his own territory Klese Hass ran the ball to the left of the play the ball and was able to promote the ball to twelve metres inside Burleigh territory.

    Playing all eighty minutes Klese Haas ran for seventy one metres (thirty eight post contact), broke a tackle, played the ball at an average speed of 3.3 seconds and made a team leading thirty seven tackles at a 100% tackling efficiency.

    Titans contracted Tremain Spry started at right centre for the Tweed Heads Seagulls in the Round Four Queensland Cup local derby against the Burleigh Bears with Tremain Spry recording a line break in the 11th minute when after receiving a great pass from his inside for Thomas Weaver when thirty metres out from the try line, Tremain Spry was able to escape the clutches of one defender as he carried the ball to within ten metres of the try line and four metres in from the right touchline.

    Tremain Spry made a second line break in the 70th minute when after receiving the ball on the right side of the field on the halfway mark, Tremain Spry skipped to the outside of his opposing centre and burst downfield, getting to twelve metres out before being tackled by the Bears fullback but Tremain Spry was still able to get an off-load after to his right to Ioane Seuili who was tackled less than a metre short of the try line.

    Tremain Spry made a further strong run in the 18th minute down the right channel from thirty two metres from his own try line with Tremain Spry able to carry the ball all of the way to the halfway mark. Tremain Spry also did well running the ball in the 26th minute when with the play the ball just four metres out from his own try line and the Seagulls trapped in their right corner, Tremain Spry received the ball off the dummy half from his right and carried the ball all of the way to the twenty metre mark with more than 50% of his metres being post contact.

    Playing all eighty minutes of the match Tremain Spry ran for 139 metres (thirty nine post contact), made two line breaks, broke four tackles, played the ball at an average speed of 3.24 secosnd and made nine tackles at a 90% tackling efficiency.

    Kaleb Ngamanu started from the bench for the Tweed Heads Seagulls in Round Four Queensland Cup match against the Burleigh Bears and after coming on to play on the left wing Kaleb Ngamanu scored in the 28th minute when after receiving a pass from his inside from Thomas Weaver when he was around sixteen metres out, Kaleb Ngamanu raced down the left touchline and dive over to score in the corner.

    The 39th minute saw Kaleb Ngamanu come off his wing to take a hit up on the opposite side of the field with Kaleb Ngamanu taking possession twenty eight metres out from his own try line and on the right side of the field with Kaleb Ngamanu able to get the ball ten metres away from the halfway mark.

    Kaleb Ngamanu made a further strong run in the 68th minute from forty metres out from his own try line and to the right of the play the ball with Kaleb Ngamanu stepping off his right foot to put a defender off balance with Kaleb Ngamanu able to get the ball six metres inside Burleigh territory before he was finally brought to ground.

    Kaleb Ngamanu did well defensively in the 37th minute with a strong low one on one tackle on Burleigh right winger Tony Francis who had tried to run over the top of Kaleb Ngamanu down the touch line ten metres out from the try line.

    Kaleb Ngamanu executed a smart play in the 72nd minute when he smartly got his right foot into the in-goal and reach forward into the field of play to take a high bomb to his wing on the full to obtain a twenty metre tap restart for Tweed Heads. After taking the bomb on the full Kaleb Ngamanu ran the ball to the twenty metre mark and after taking the tap Kaleb Ngamanu made ten metres.

    In his fifty five minutes on the field Kaleb Ngamanu ran for 161 metres (fifty two post contact), made a line break, played the ball at an average speed of 3.15 seconds and made four tackles at an 80% tackling efficiency.

    After four rounds of the 2023 Queensland Cup competition Kaleb Ngamanu was equal second on the try scoring list with five tries, fourth in overall metres gained with a total of 577 metres and fifth in terms of all runs of the ball with fifty seven.

    Tony Francis started on the right wing for the Burleigh Bears in the Round Four local Queensland Cup derby against the Tweed Heads Seagulls with Tony Francis recording a line break assist in the 78th minute when from twenty metres out from his own try line and to the left of the play the ball Tony Francis charged onto the ball and after engaging the defensive line when he was thirty metres out, Tony Francis was able to get his left arm free and get an off-load away to his right to the Bears right centre who was able to carrying the ball to five metres inside Seagulls territory.

    The first of a number of strong runs by Tony Francis came in the 4th minute when from just ten metres out from his own try line and to the right of the play the ball Tony Francis fought his way to two metres over the halfway mark.

    Thomas Weaver continued at five eight for the Tweed Heads Seagulls in the Round Four Queensland Cup local derby against the Burleigh Bears with Thomas Weaver recording a 28th minute try assist when from sixteen metres out on the left side of the field Thomas Weaver threw a cut out pass to his left to Kaleb Ngamanu who raced due the left touchline to dive over to score in the left corner.

    Thomas Weaver also recorded a line break assist in the 11th minute when after looping around to the right side of the field from the left, Thomas Weaver received the ball to passes to the right of the play the ball and after taking the ball deep into the defensive line when in the centre of the field and thirty metres out from the tryline, Thomas Weaver held the ball to the last possible second before throwing a great cut-out pass to his right to put Tremain Spry into a gap with the centre taking the ball to within ten metres of the try line.

    The 18th minute saw Thomas Weaver put up a high right foot bomb towards the left corner from the centre of the field and thirty five metres out with the ball coming down around eight metres of the try line and was knocked on by the Bears right winger to restart the tackle count for Tweed Heads.

    Thomas Weaver engaged the Bears defensive line once again in the 74th minute when Thomas Weaver ran the ball to the left of a Seagulls scrum win in the centre of the field and thirty metres out with Thomas Weaver getting the ball to within twenty metres of the try line.

    Then in the 75th minute after Tweed Heads had thrown the ball from one side of the field to the other, Thomas Weaver took the responsibility of attacking the Bears defensive line himself and after stepping off his left foot just inside the attacking twenty metre area, Thomas Weaver was hit high in a tackle with the resultant Toby Sexton penalty goal locking the scores up at 12 all.

    Thomas Weaver also did well defensively against the Bears including a very good low one on one tackle seven metres inside his own territory on the Bears lock who had isolated and targeted Thomas Weaver on the edge of the ruck but Thomas Weaver was easily up to the task and cut his legs out from under him.

    Thomas Weaver made a further strong defensive play in the 38th minute when whilst defending on his own try line around twelve metres in from the left touchline Thomas Weaver rushed up and put the Burleigh right second rower (No. 12) front on and drove him back three metres and onto his back to ensure a slow play the ball.

    Playing all eighty minutes of the match Thomas Weaver ran for 105 metres (twenty post contact), recorded a try assist, broke three tackles, played the ball at an average speed of 2.87 seconds and made eighteen tackles at a tackling efficiency of 81.81%.

    After four rounds of the 2023 Queensland Cup competition Thomas Weaver was equal second in Line Break Assists with five.

    Keano Kini started at fullback for the Burleigh Bears in the Round Four Queensland Cup local derby against the Tweed Heads Seagulls with Keano Kini recording a try assist in the 6th minute with a great catch and pass under intense pressure to his left for six metres out to put Ken Maumalo over to cross the try line wide out on the left.

    Keano Kini also recorded a line break assist in the 79th minute when after running back and picking up the ball on the bounce from a long Tweed Heads kick ten metres out from his own try line an in front of his posts, Keano Kini turned around and immediately ran to his left and after drawing in the final Seagulls defender on that side of the field Keano Kini got a pass away to his left when thirty metres out from his own try line to put his left centre away down the touchline.

    Keano Kini’s initial strong run of the match came in the 9th minute when after receiving the ball ten metres out from his own try line and two passes to the left of the play the ball, Keano Kini ran the ball from the centre of the field to his left and after dummying to his left Keano Kini very nearly sliced between two defenders but was brought to ground twenty nine metres out from the try line.

    Keano Kini made a further strong run in the 19th minute when from thirty eight metres out from his own try line Keano Kini exploded onto the ball to the right of the dummy half and after engaging the defensive line and spinning clockwise Keano Kini carried the ball to the halfway mark.

    Keano Kini engaged the Burleigh defensive line once again in the 36th minute when to the right of a Bears scrum win twenty five metres out from the try line and in the centre of the field Keano Kini ran the ball to his right and after getting on the outside of the Seagulls left centre Keano Kini set sail for the try line but was dragged to ground three metres short and just in from the right touchline.

    Then in the 39th minute from ten metres out from his own try line and in the centre of the field, Keano Kini received the ball two passes to the right of the play the ball and after getting on the outside of the Seagulls left side defence, Keano Kini straightened up his running line as he ran the ball out to the twenty eight metre mark.

    The 61st minute saw Keano Kini receive the ball to the right of a Burleigh scrum win three metres inside his own territory. As he ran the ball over the halfway mark Keano Kini shaped to put in a chip kick for himself but instead ran the ball with Keano Kini getting the ball to forty metres out from the try line.

    Keano Kini, in the 63rd minute from the left of the play the ball took possession of the ball forty metres out from his own try line and after stepping off his left foot carried the ball nine metres inside Seagulls territory.

    Keano Kini displayed his outstanding positional sense in the fullback position in the 15th minute when after the Burleigh dummy half put in a grubber kick out of dummy half close to the try line, Keano Kini raced to his right and dived in the same direction to take the hard running ball cleanly and stay in the field of play ten metres to the right of the uprights.

    Keano Kini showed smart positional sense at fullback in the 67th minute when he positioned himself to the right of a Seagulls play the ball and after fielding a grubber kick on his own try line Keano Kini got to the ground quickly just inside the field of play to prevent being dragged back into his in-goal area.

    Keano Kini also did well from the fullback position in the 33rd minute with a great take of a high floating Burleigh bomb on the full under intense pressure twenty metres out from his own try line and two metres in from the left touchline.

    Defensively Keano Kini made a try saving one on one tackle twelve metres out from the try line and just in from the left touchline on a charging Tremain Spry who had split the Burleigh defence on the halfway mark.

Whilst Vaka Sikahele started off at dummy half when he first came on, Vaka Sikahele spent time in the second half as a running backrower.

    Vaka Sikahele made a strong run out of dummy half in the 57th minute when from forty three metres out from his own try line Vaka Sikahele ran to his right to get the ball ten metres inside Norths Devils territory.

    Vaka Sikahele continued from the bench in Round Nine of the bench against the Mackay Cutters with Vaka Sikahele making a line break in the 39th minute when after charging onto the ball to the left of the play the ball and two metres inside Cutters territory Tony Francis stepped off his left foot to beat one defender before bursting through two more attempted tackles. Tony Francis then charged to within twenty two metres of the try line.

    Tremain Spry ran the ball well himself in the 69th minute with a twenty metre effort down the right channel to be tackled twenty three metres away from the try line.

    Tremain Spry continued at right centre in Round Eight against the Toowoomba Clydesdales with Tremain Spry scoring a double in a big Seagulls victory.

    Keano Kini recorded his opening try assist in just the 2nd minute when after chiming into the Bears backline on the left side of the field, Keano Kini did well to patiently wait for the ball after it had bounced just in front of him. Keano Kini then when ten metres out drew one defender and got a pass away to his right for an unmarked Ken Maumalo to score in the right corner.

    Keano Kini recorded his second try assist in the 9th minute when this time on the right side of the field, Keano Kini once again chimed into the backline and then eight metres out Keano Kini threw a hard flat pass to his right to put Tony Francis over to score.

    Keano Kini made a strong run in the 18th minute when after receiving the ball thirty metres out and to the left of the play the ball, Keano Kini after dummying to his left Keano Kini got to within eight metres of the try line before he was brought to ground by the Hunters cover defence.

    Keano Kini also made a try saving tackle in the 40th minute on the Hunters left centre (No. 3) after he had made a line break with Keano Kini racing to his right to bring the centre down from behind just a metre out from the try line and around eight metres in from the right corner post.

    Then in the 43rd minute made a great catch of a high PNG bomb around eight metres out and in the centre of the field under heavy pressure from multiple Hunters chasers.

    Playing sixty eight minutes of the match Keano Kini ran for a team leading 180 metres (forty three post contact), recorded three line break assists and two try assists, played the ball at an average speed of 3.56 seconds and made three tackles.

    Keano Kini continued at fullback in Round Seven against the Brisbane Tigers with Keano Kini scoring his career first Queensland Cup try in the 61st minute when after chiming into the backline on the right side of the field around twelve metres out Keano Kini was tripped up around five metres out but was not held with Keano Kini then able to get to his feet well enough to diveforward and get the ball down six metres in from the right corner post.

    Keano Kini also recorded a try assist in the 7th minute when after taking possession of the ball from a tipped pass on the right side of the field Keano Kini burst into space and when ten metres out threw a pass to his right to put Kea Pere over to score ten metres in from the right corner post.

    Oskar Bryant started from the bench in Round Six of the Queensland Cup against the Townsville Blackhawks with Oskar Bryant recording a try assist in the 37th minute when after Tweed Heads made a line break down the left touchline the inside pass went to ground backwards ten metres from the try line, Oscar Bryant swooped on the bouncing ball and after running to his left, Oscar Bryant drew the last Blackhawks defender and get the ball away from Ryland Jacobs to score.

    Kaleb Ngamanu started on the right wing in Round Six of the Queensland Cup against the Townsville Blackhawks with Kaleb Ngamanu scoring a double.

    Kaleb Ngamanu scored his opening try in the 14th minute when he had a ten metre run to put the ball down five metres in from the right corner post off a great cut-out pass from his inside from Thomas Weaver.

    Kaleb Ngamanu completed his double in the 74th minute with a ten metre run to put the ball down in the right corner after Kaleb Ngamanu received the ball from his inside by way of a smart catch and pass by Tremain Spry.

    Kaleb Ngamanu did well in the 46th minute when he turned and tracked the ball back and take the ball on the full ten metres from the try line with Kaleb Ngamanu then doing well to stay in the field of play. Kaleb Ngamanu tracked back again in the 53rd minute to take a Townsville chip kick on the full and once again Kaleb Ngamanu was able to stay in the field of play.

    Playing the entire match Kaleb Ngamanu ran for 138 metres (thirty seven post contact), made a team leading two line breaks, played the ball at an average speed of 3.63 seconds and made a tackle.

    Kaleb Ngamanu continued on the right wing in Round Eight against the Toowoomba Clydesdales with Kaleb Ngamanu recording a try assist after just thirty one seconds when after being put away down the right touchline by Thomas Weaver on the halfway mark, Kaleb Ngamanu drew the Toowoomba fullback and passed to his left to put his fullback over to score under the posts.
