    Default Review of matches for JTS players transitioning to QCUp and NRL

    Keano Kini was named on the bench for the Titans NRL side in their opening 2023 trial against the Brisbane Bronco’s on the Sunshine Coast with Keano Kini coming onto the field at halftime at operate at fullback and to say that Keano Kini made a great impact to announce himself in the NRL would be an understatement.

    Keano Kini was electric from the opening moments that he was on the field including a line break in the 45th minute when Keano Kini loomed up off the right hip of Iszac Fa’asuamaleaui who popped a great short ball to his right to a flying Keano Kini thirty five metres out with Keano Kini bursting through the initial Bronco’s defensive line before easily rounding Reece Walsh to his left and Keano Kini was only caught when he was within three metres of the try line.

    Keano Kini showed his calmness under pressure in the 47th minute when he was very patient to allow a long Bronco’s clearing kick to go dead in goal with Keano Kini then racing back to the twenty metre mark to take the tap restart.

    Keano Kini then set the crowd and television public (and commentators) alight in the 49th minute when he cut inside to his left underneath Tannah Boyd back towards the centre of the field with Keano Kini making Martin Tapau look foolish when he beat him with a 360 degree clockwise spin with Keano Kini then getting and off-load away when he was catch by a Brisbane defender.

    Keano Kini made a line break in the 60th minute when from forty metres out from the try line when he burst onto a Sam McIntyre off-load with Keano Kini getting to within ten metres of the try line before he was eventually tackled.

    Keano Kini highlighted his ability to make the tough metres in the 66th minute when from thirty metres out from his own try line Keano Kini ran the ball to the right of the play the ball and made a half break as he got the ball into Bronco’s territory with the majority of the metres that Keano Kini made being of the post contact variety.

    In his time on the field Keano Kini ran for an impressive 151 metres (forty eight post contact), broke two tackles, played the ball at an average speed of 4.38 seconds and made a tackle, missing none.

    Keano Kini was also named on the bench for the Titans second 2023 NRL trial against the Redcliffe Dolphins with Keano Kini playing fullback for the final thirty minutes of the match.     Thomas Weaver was named on the bench for the Titans NRL side in their opening 2023 trial against the Brisbane Bronco’s on the Sunshine Coast with Thomas Weaver coming onto the field at half time to operate on the left side of the field.

    Thomas Weaver recorded a try assist in the 56th minute when whilst operating on the left side of the field around fifteen metres out, Thomas Weaver threw a great long cut-out pass to his left to put Lofi khan-Pereira over to score untouched.

    Thomas Weaver could have had a second try assist in the 61st minute when from ten metres out and on the left side of the field Thomas Weaver put in a well weighted grubber towards the left corner with winger Lofi khan-Pereira racing through but he could only ground the ball on the dead ball line.

    Thomas Weaver was also heavily involved in Lofi Khan-Pereira’s try in the 73rd minute when from two passes to the left of the play the ball Thomas Weaver initially stepped back inside to beat a Bronco’s defender who had raced out of the defensive line. Thomas Weaver then cut to his outside to beat a second defender with Thomas Weaver then getting in between two defenders and got his hands low and threw a great pass to his left to Jayden Campbell who subsequently off-loaded for Lofi khan_pereira to score in the left corner.

    In the second half Thomas Weaver ran for thirty two metres, broke two tackles and made nine tackles at a 90% tackling efficiency.

    Jojo Fifita was named on the wing for the Titans NRL side in their opening 2023 trial against the Brisbane Bronco’s on the Sunshine Coast with JoJo Fifita starting on the right wing and scoring in the first half when Jojo Fifita leapt high to take a Tannah Boyd High bomb on the full above his Bronco’s opponent to score ten metres in from the right corner in the 15th minute.

    In his time on the field Jojo Fifita ran for eighty six metres (thirty one post contact), broke a tackle, played the ball at an average speed of 4.02 seconds and made five tackles at a 100% tackling efficiency.

    Jojo Fifita was also named on the right wing for the Titans second 2023 NRL trial against the Redcliffe Dolphins with Jojo Fifita scoring two first half tries in the Titans big victory.

    Jojo Fifita scored his opening try in the 17th minute when he backed up a long line break by David Fifita to get the off-load and run thirty five metres to score five metres in from the right corner post.

    Jojo Fifita completed his double in the 24th minute when a twenty metres burst down the right touchline to dive over in the corner after once again being put away by David Fifita.

    Lofi Khan-Pereira was named on the left wing for the Titans NRL side in their opening 2023 trial against the Brisbane Bronco’s on the Sunshine Coast with Lofi Khan-Pereira scoring a double in a 24 all draw.

    Lofi Khan-Pereira’s opening try came in the 56th minute when after he received a long cut out pass from his inside from Thomas Weaver in space and around twenty metres out, Lofi Khan-Pereira raced towards the left corner but around ten metres out stepped off his left foot back inside to beat a Bronco’s cover defender and then bring the ball around to score mid-way between the goal posts and corner post on the left side of the field.

    Lofi Khan-Pereira completed his try scoring double in the 73rd minute with an acrobatic effort to just get the ball down in the left corner after good work on his inside by Thomas Weaver and Jayden Campbell to gibe Lofi Khan-Pereira some space down the left touchline.

    In fact Lofi Khan-Pereira could easily have scored at least four tries in the NRL trial including in the first half of the match when with the Bronco’s attacking towards his wing, Lofi Khan-Pereira stepped forward into the Brisbane defensive line with eighty metres of open space in front of him but unfortunately Lofi Khan-Pereira was unable to gain full control of the ball with an intercept in the offing.

    Then in the 61st minute Thomas Weaver put in a smart grubber into the in-goal with Lofi Khan-Pereira racing through but he ended up grounding the ball on the dead ball line.

    In the match Lofi Khan-Pereira ran for 107 metres (fourteen post contact), made a team leading three line breaks, broke three tackles and played the ball at an average speed of 3.72 seconds.

    Lofi Khan-Pereira completed his hat trick in the 11th minute when once again he was put away by Phillip Sami with Lofi Khan-Pereira running thirty metres untouched to score ten metres to the left of the uprights.

    Lofi Khan-Pereira added a fourth try in the 68th minute when once again he raced down the left touchline to dive over in the corner from eight metres out from a Phillip Sami off-load.

    The match saw Lofi Khan-Pereira run for 156 metres (twelve post contact), make a team leading three line breaks, break two tackles, play the ball at an average speed of 3.86 econds and made a tackle, missing none.

    2023 saw Oskar Bryant return to the Tweed Heads Seagulls with Oskar Bryant named on the bench in Round One of the 2023 Queensland Cup competition against the Central Queensland Capra’s however a late change saw Oskar Bryant start his Queensland Cup debut at hooker.

    Oskar Bryant came close to scoring in the 19th minute when after running out of dummy half to his left from close range Oskar Bryant was held up over the try line five metres to the right of the goal posts.

    Oskar Bryant made a good tackle in the 63rd minute on the Central Queensland front rower No. 10 on his own try line and just three metres to the right of the uprights.

    Playing fifty six minutes Oskar Bryant ran for eighteen metres (six post contact), played the ball at an average speed of 2.68 seconds and made thirty one tackles at an impressive tackling efficiency of 93.94%.

    Oskar Bryant then was named on the bench for Round Two against the Western Clydesdales but unfortunately Oskar Bryant injured his shoulder making a tackle when defending close to the try line.

    Oskar Bryant played twenty three minutes off the bench in the dummy half role and in that time ran for eight metres and made eleven tackles at a tackling efficiency of 91.67%.

    2023 saw Tremain Spry return to the Tweed Heads Seagulls with Tremain Spry starting aright centre and scoring a first half double in Round Two against the Western Clydesdales of the 2023 Queensland Cup competition.

    Tremain Spry scoring his opening 2023 Queensland Cup try in the 29th minute when after the Seagulls spread the ball to their right from wide out and close to the try line on the left, Tremain Spry received the ball around eleven metres out and ten metres in from the right touch line and then Tremain Spry executed a lightning quick (and subtle) in and away to gain the required room to get on the outside of his opposing centre to crash over in the tackle two metres in from the right corner post.

    Tremain Spry completed his double just four minutes later in the 33rd minute when after receiving an off-load from his left from Klese Haas around six metres out and near the right touchline Tremain Spry was able to force his way over to get the ball down just in from the right corner post.

    Tremain Spry also made a line break in the 59th minute when after great work on his inside by Klese Haas, Tremain Spry received the off-load from Haas thirty metres out with Tremain Spry beating a number of defenders before his momentum was stopped five metres from the try line.

    Tremain Spry made a strong crunching tackle in the 55th minute on his opposite number five metres from the try line with Tremain Spry having the presence of mind to pick up the dropped ball as a result of his tackle with Tremain Spry getting the ball thirty metres away from the try line and then received a penalty for interference as he attempted to play the ball.

    2023 saw Klese Haas return to the Tweed Heads Seagulls with Klese Hass named to start at right second row in Round One of the 2023 Queensland Cup competition against the Central Queensland Capra’s and whilst playing all eighty minutes Klese Haas ran for a team leading 121 metres (fifty one post contact), broke three tackles, played the ball at an average speed of 3.03 seconds and made twenty nine tackles at an exceptional tackling efficiency of 96.67%.

    Klese Haas was also named at right second row for Round Two against the Western Clydesdales.

    Klese Haas recorded a try assist in the first half in the 33rd minute when after receiving the ball sixteen metres out and two passes to the right of the play the ball, literally shrugged off three would be defenders and then after getting within three metres of the try line Klese Haas was able to get his right arm free and get an overhead pass to his right to Tremain Spry who crashed over in the right corner from three metres out.

    Klese Haas did well defensively in the 43rd minute when Klese Haas was involved in holding up the Clydesdales No. 17 six metres to the left of the uprights.

    2023 saw Jaylan De Groot return to the Tweed Heads Seagulls with Jaylan De Groot named on the bench in Round One of the 2023 Queensland Cup competition against the Central Queensland Capra’s however a late change saw Jaylan De Groot start his Queensland Cup debut at fullback.

    Jaylan De Groot scored his first Queensland Cup try and the Seagulls first try of the season in the 37th minute when after receiving the ball from his left from Toby Sexton when eight metres out, Jaylan De Groot had an easy run to dive over to score ten metres in from the right corner post.

    Jaylan De Groot thought he had scored a second try in the 38th minute when after chasing through a Toby Sexton grubber kick it appeared that Jaylan De Groot got his hand to the ball adjacent to the right goal post however it was ruled that Jaylan De Groot had knocked on prior to getting downward pressure on the ball.

    Jaylan De Groot forced a goal line drop out in the 38th minute when from twelve metres out and in the centre of the field Jaylan De Groot put in a right foot grubber kick towards the right side of the field into the in-goal. After the ball was recovered by the Capra’s who got the ball back into the field of play, Jaylan De Groot along with a few other Seagulls got hold of him, held him up and forced back into the in-goal.

    Jaylan De Groot’s first kick return in his Queensland Cup debut came in the 5th minute when after taking a Capra’s clearing kick on the full four metres out from his own try line and on the left side of the field Jaylan De Groot ran back towards the centre of the field to get to his own twenty metre mark.

    Jaylan De Groot made a further strong run in the 21st minute when he was able to promote the ball fifteen metres to thirty one metres out from the try line after running onto the ball to the left of the play the ball. Then in the 27th minute from the right of the play the ball Jaylan De Groot made ten more metres to get to thirty metres away from the try line.

    Jaylan De Groot tan to his right out of dummy half in the 46th minute with Jaylan De Groot getting the ball from twenty six metres out from his own try line to within five metres of the halfway mark.

Jaylan De Groot made another great take under pressure in the 61st minute when faced with a number of charging defenders Jaylan De Groot jumped high to take a bomb on the full ten metres out from the try line.

    2023 saw Kaleb Ngamanu return to the Tweed Heads Seagulls with Kaleb Ngamanu named on the right wing in Round One of the 2023 Queensland Cup competition against the Central Queensland Capra’s with Kaleb Ngamanu scoring in the 59th minute when he received an off-load from his right centre after a Seagulls cross field kick with Kaleb Ngamanu easily scoring three metres in from the right corner from three metres out.

    Kaleb Ngamanu ran the ball well in the 46th minute from his own twenty metre mark with Kaleb Ngamanu cutting off his left foot back behind the play the ball with Kaleb Ngamanu making eight metres. Then after the next tackle Kaleb Ngamanu ran to his right out of dummy half five metres inside his own territory with Kaleb Ngamanu getting the ball ten metres inside Central Queensland territory.

After coming onto the field Thomas Weaver operated at five eight and on his usual left side of the field.

    Thomas Weaver was heavily involved in Kaleb Ngamanu’s 56th minute try when to the left of the play the ball and twenty metres from the try line Thomas Weaver took the ball deep (very deep) into the defensive line before getting the ball away to Jaylan De Groot who then put Kaleb Ngamanu over to score in the left corner.

    Jaylan De Groot made a great take under pressure in the 21st minute when he jumped above the Norths chasers to take a high bomb on the full just five metres out from his own try line with Jaylan De Groot being awarded a penalty for being tackled whilst still in the air.

    Unfortunately a leg injury saw Jaylan De Groot leave the field but in his fifty eight minutes on the field Jaylan De Groot ran for forty three metres (nine post contact), made a line break, played the ball at an average speed of 4.96 seconds and made a tackle.

    Thomas Weaver continued at five eight in Round Three against the Norths Devils with Thomas Weaver recording four try assists and multiple line break assists.

    The first of Thomas Weaver’s try assist came in the 4th minute when from twelve metres out and two passes to the right of the play the ball Thomas Weaver took the ball deep into the defensive lien and threw a cut-out pass behind the lead runner to put Jaylan De Groot over to score twelve metres in from the left corner post.

    Thomas Weaver recorded his second try assist in the 10th minute when after Thomas Weaver had put his left centre away down the left touchline, Thomas Weaver backed up on the inside to get the ball back from his centre around six metres out and then with defenders surrounding him Thomas Weaver threw a subtle dummy to his left before popping a short ball to his right immediately after for Toby Sexton to crash over eight metres in from the left corner post.

    Thomas Weaver recorded a third try assist in the 16th minute when from two passes to the left of the play the ball Thomas Weaver dug deep into the defensive line and threw a short ball to his left to put his left second rower into a gaping hole to score untouched from ten metres out.

    Thomas Weaver recorded his fourth try assist of the first half in the 33rd minute when from the right of a Seagulls scrum win twenty metres out Thomas Weaver was able to get a pass away to his right that put Tremain Spry on the outside of his opposite number and crash over near the right corner post.

    Thomas Weaver forced a Redcliffe goal line drop-out just prior to his fourth try assist in the 15th minute when Thomas Weaver ran the ball down a short left blindside and when he was twelve metres out Thomas Weaver put in a right foot grubber kick into the in-goal area that was forced in-goal by the Dolphins defence. Thomas Weaver then recorded his third try assist of the match from the subsequent Seagulls set of six tackles.

    Thomas Weaver put in another good kick in the 33rd minute when from twenty two metres out and once again down a short left blindside Thomas Weaver put in a chip kick towards the left corner which was knocked on by the Redcliffe winger with Tremain Spry scoring from the subsequent Seagulls scrum win.

    Thomas Weaver put in another good right foot chip kick from down a short left blindside in the 38th minute from twenty metres out with the ball coming down just short of the try line near the left corner with the Dolphins right winger immediately taken into touch for a Tweed Heads restart.

    Thomas Weaver ran the ball well in the 43rd minute when from twenty metres out and down a left blindside Thomas Weaver dummied to his outside before taking the line on himself with his stepping run getting the ball to thirteen metres out near the centre of the field.

    Thomas Weaver produced a smart piece of play in the43rd minute when whilst defending on his own try line he anticipated a Redcliffe grubber kick and as a consequence Thomas Weaver raced to his left to dive on the ball just centremetres before it went into the Seagulls in-goal area.

    Whilst playing all eighty minutes of the match Thomas Weaver certainly filled up his stats sheet by running for fifty four metres (six post contact), recorded four try assists and four line break assists, played the ball at an average speed of 4.39 seconds, made fourteen tackles at a tackling efficiency of 87.5%, forced a goal line drop-out and kicked on six occasions making 126 metres in the process.

    After three rounds of the 2023 Queensland Cup competition Thomas Weaver sat equal third in terms of both try assists and line break assists with four in each of those categories.

    Titan Vaka Sikahele came off the bench for the Burleigh Bears in Round Three of the Queensland Cup against the Redcliffe Dolphins, spending time both at dummy half and lock.

    Vaka Sikahele made a line break within minutes of coming on in the 53rd minute when after running onto the ball thirty eight metres out from his own try line and to the left of the play the ball, Vaka Sikahele stepped off his left foot to go straight through the centre of the defensive line with Vaka Sikahele tackled by the Redcliffe fullback twenty two metres out from the try line.

    Vaka Sikahele also executed an outstanding front-on tackle in the 68th minute when as the Redcliffe No. 17 was bringing the ball back from a Burleigh kick-off, Vaka Sikahele hit him front on with his right shoulder and dislodging the ball just ten metres from the try line with the Bears scoring from the set of six after Burleigh had retrieved the ball.

    Playing twenty nine minutes Vaka Sikahele ran for ninety metres (five post contact), made a line break, broke two tackles, played the ball at an average speed of 3.02 seconds and made fifteen tackles at a 100% tackling efficiency.

    Titans development contracted folder Tony Francis started on the right wing for the Burleigh Bears in Round Three of the Queensland Cup against the Redcliffe Dolphins however Tony Francis also spent time on the left wing late in the second half.

    Tony Francis made his initial strong run in the 11th minute when from twenty metres out from his own try line and to the left of the play the ball, Tony Francis was able to break through a number of tackles as got the ball to within two metres of the halfway mark.

    Tony Francis then saved a try an also made good ground in the 24th minute when whilst defending on his own try line and having a two person overlap, Tony Francis waited until the last possible moment then stepped forward to take an intercept three metres from his own try line and then after juggling the ball Tony Francis charged forty metres down the right touchline before Tony Francis stepped inside off his right foot before another right foot step that he fact took him a metre back from his own line when Tony Francis then getting the ball to within two metres of the halfway mark.

    Then in the 39th minute from thirty five metres from his own try line and to the left of the play the ball Tony Francis was able to make seven metres before getting an off-load away to his left for the Bears to gain an additional twenty metres.

    Playing all eighty minutes of the match Tony Francis ran for a team leading 197 metres (thirty post contact), broke three tackles, played the ball at an average speed of 3.06 seconds and made three tackles at a 100% tackling efficiency.
