Bit late to post the weekly review of the players involved in Qcup last weekend but better late than never.
For what its worth, both Jojo and Aaron Booth were ommitted from Tweed and Burleigh last weekend which suggested they would be playing the following week v Brisbane.
Burleigh def. Ipswich 52-10
Lofi Khan-Pereira (left wing) added to his highlight reel with another long-range try, as well as an acrobatic effort to rack up a double. His red zone carries looked to be with a bit more venom than usual and he's going to need to continue this as well as increase his contributions to be in the frame for NRL, IMO. Overall, a good game from our speed man.
Tony Francis (right wing) also scored a hallmark try where he took the route of going over the top of his opposite. His involvement in red zone carries was good as usual and he was solid overall. Didn't quite have the same tackle bust and post-contact numbers as most weeks but as usual wasn't afraid of the tough/dirty work.
Iszac Fa'asuamaleaui (starting prop) 37 minutes in the middle, 94 metres and 19 tackles. As usual a high-effort performance but with Burleigh's dominance on the edges it wasn't exactly a day for middles to be grinding out big metre counts. Tristan Powell, the other starting prop, put up almost identical numbers.
Jacob Alick (left edge) had a couple of classy moments and is running some pretty slick unders lines off of Josh Rogers. Scored a try with some footwork. He's getting better and better since being full-time with the Titans and his defensive detail is improving too. Continuing to develop well.
Tweed lost to Redcliffe 30-4
Tom Weaver (halfback) was probably the headline story for this one, making his Qcup debut. He went straight in to the 7 jersey and had Klese Haas as his backrower on that right edge. His involvements were'nt as high as usual with the ball but that was to be expected with Mcgrady (usual half) going to fullback and playing his role as a receiver, and Tweed getting a second half spanking. Although he didn't quite have the amount of football he's used to but what impressed me was his willingness on defence. Redcliffe sent a heap of traffic at him and he didn't shy away from the contact on bigger bodies at all. Tom needs to get bigger to be considered at NRL level no doubt, but being brave on the physical side and not being passive is what you want to see. Overall, a solid debut that he will build on but he's going to need to find a way to get the ball in his hands a bit more to show the influence he can really have on that side.
Klese Haas (right edge) was Tom's bodyguard for this one and did a good job doing so. High energy and aggressive on defence, making 33 tackles with 1 miss. Only had 5 runs with the ball where he carried strong and committed multiple defenders but he needs to get more involvements (which will also come with his halfback - assuming it remains Tommy - getting more ball). I will say that Tweed typically attack the 3 and 4 man to the left before sweeping wide to the right so they'll need to show some variation to this in order to get this guy some more good ball.
Sam Lisone also played for Tweed and had some great involvements with the ball, but his defensive work still has me concerned. Losing a few too many tackles and isn't efficient enough around marker. Also got sent for 10 after swearing at the referee.
