A prominent former Channel 9 reporter and Gold Coast Titans co-founder is being mourned after dying in his sleep in the US.

Tributes are flowing for a prominent former Channel 9 reporter and Gold Coast Titans co-founder who died suddenly.

Andy Stubbs, who was aged in his 50s, died overnight in the US after reportedly suffering a medical episode in his sleep.

A former Channel 9 sports reporter on the Gold Coast, Stubbs helped Titans founder Michael Searle form the NRL club in the mid-2000s and served as a long-time director.

He later relocated to the US to become a successful athlete manager, looking after sportsmen and women around the world.

Gold Coast motorsport identity Brett Murray was one of many to pay tribute to Stubbs, describing the “numbing moment” when he found out about his friend.

“A terrific mate from the ‘good old days’ who had forged a career in athletics management around the world,” Murray posted on Facebook.

“I will miss our regular chats shooting the s---- on everything and anything and discussing how we help those young professionals around us.

“Way to soon. ‘Stubbsy’, to you I raise a glass and to your family, friends and clients goes our love and strength.”

Really sorry to hear about this. Especially considering he was so young. All the best in these circumstances to his family and friends.

I'm happy to see he is getting recognition for his work in founding our club. As a 16th license the world was really against us in many ways. Especially after the bloody rationalisation after Super League and into what became the NRL.
