Default Fiji’s Vodafone Cup set to expand in 2021 with 32 teams

    https://www.asiapacificrl.com/2021/0...xpand-in-2021/

Fiji’s premier domestic competition, the Vodafone Cup, is set to expand in 2021, with the Fiji National Rugby League (FNRL) inviting clubs from around the Pacific nation to apply.

After a record 24 teams took part in the 2020 season, the FNRL has confirmed that up to eight new teams will be invited to take part this year, with registrations open until January 25.

The proposed competition format would see teams split into two conferences of 16 based around Nadi and Suva respectively. All teams within the respective conference would play each other before the Finals.

Whilst registrations have only just opened, the FNRL has already received applications from new teams, the Fiji Navy, Laselase Roosters, Kinoya and Nawaka to join the competition, and from 2019 participants, the Vatukoro Titans and Lautoka Crushers to return.

It's stunning. And we can also remember that we have the Kaiviti Silktails joining the NSW Cup in 2022 (due to covid, was originally 2021)!

Fiji given permission to restart Schools competitions
    https://www.asiapacificrl.com/2021/0...-competitions/

After almost 50 weeks of no sport in Fijian schools, Rugby League has become the first and only sport in the Pacific nation to be given the green light to restart competitions.

An official approval by the Ministry of Education Heritage and Arts this week gives the Fiji Secondary School Rugby League (FSSRL) permission to run the Vodafone Schools Cup competition in 2021, which will aim to kick off in the coming weeks.

Under the guidance of the Fiji National Rugby League (FNRL), the FSSRL will ensure all matches adhere to the COVID-19 protocols in place across Fiji.

The 2020 Vodafone Schools Cup competition that was halted in March last year had no winner declared due to its discontinuance.

In 2019, Queen Victoria School won the Under 19s title, whilst Nasinu Secondary School and Ratu Kadavulevu School claimed the Under 17s and Under 15s titles respectively.

My wife is from Lautoka. I'll be sure any talent at the crushers gets recorded and sent over to the Titans for a look!!
