Tino 7 missed tackles jeez
Thought he was great otherwise...but against good sides that'll cost us dearly.
Thompson was sensational tonight.
What a win and what a way to finish the 1st half. Looks like the Donkeys can't even play a full half little alone two halfs. Great to see we can step up when we go to the bench too. Would still love a specialist 2RF on the bench because I'm not sure what happened when Fifita went off but we got shown up on that side of the field (which is the opposite from where I sit). Was it Ash being lazy? He disappointed again for me tonight. Terrible kicking game and brain explosions when we should have been closing out the game. Sami showed why he's second choice too.
Always great to beat the Broncos.
Wanted to acknowledge some of our much maligned players.
Thought Sami handled filling in for Kelly well. For me personally, I would have him in the team before Don. I watched the game with my brother (who is a cowboys fan) and whilst we both agreed we didn't think Sami was origin standard, he was fine tonight. My brother also commented he wished Valentine Holmes had even just half of AJ's grit and determination.
Thought Erin Clark was good again. He is still finding his feet with when to run etc, but looked good tonight and defensively he hits hard. Not sure why others don't rate him.
Ash looked really committed in defence tonight. I didn't love his kick through on 1st tackle at the end of the game, but otherwise he was solid.
I was ready to cut ties with Jarred Wallace half way through last year, but since getting dropped he has come back really strong and gotten the errors, penalties and stupid offloads out of his game.
Our attack is not really clicking yet , but confident that will come with time. We need more options than cross field kick to Don and block play out the back to AJ.
Agree re: Sami over Don. Another week of paper towel hit ups from Don, lucky he got one highlight from his kick, otherwise every time he got the ball with a little bit of space and he slows and turns inside to fall over in a tackle it annoys me more and more. I think Sami would do better with Don's opportunities tonight and had some stronger hit ups. Attack still isn't really clicking but I suppose we'll get that as the season comes along. Also the errors tonight would be lethal to most other NRL teams. Herbert's drop ball as he got the ball with no one in front of him was a killer. Bring on the (Taumolololess) Cows!
Bring back Kevin Gordon
Good assessment. Some still not happy with Ash but I am on Joey John’s side...he had a good game and his defence was an improvement. How can they keep selecting Don who will NOT run forward if there is a defender within 20 metres but on the other wing, the little fella kept taking it up the guts getting out of our 20.
I see not too many comments tonight, we must have been lapping it up at the game.
Just back and my two cents worth. A pretty easy win with both teams sapped out in the last 20 due to humidity. The three tries that the wooden spooners scored came off a blatant missed knock on, a loose carry that the ref called as such but overruled by the bunker, and the last try came following an offside penalty which the ref basically ignored all game. Therefore should have been about 28-0 or thereabouts.
Tino outstanding, with Thompson not far away. The halves solid without being much as was hooker. Most players did their job I thought. I just cannot see the point of Don doing early hit ups if he just jinks around but generally he did his job.
Don is a great finisher. But I fear the team has evolved beyond what he offers. A couple of years ago Ash's kicks to Don were points on the board. You could forgive his rush in/defensive misreads because he was our top try scorer. He is a real conundrum for Holly.
On the one hand, he is not the sort of winger that brings the ball back with power and speed (and never was)...but on the other hand, he is a fantastic finisher given the chance. His height give him an edge as well.
Totally satisfied with the win but have some points for discussion:
1. We’ve had 35 points scored against us but none were scored through our right edge = Fogarty/Herbert/Proctor/Don ... and we’ve scored none of 34 on that same edge ... any comments?
2. Our spine haven’t scored (Clarke doesn’t count).
3. Wide expansive play all but dries up with Proctor.
4. MoFo’s loose carries are becoming terrifying to watch
5. while any kick to Thompson apart from a grubber equals a line break at least if not points.
6. Lisone seems to be carrying a bit.
I can’t fault anybody’s efforts, toughness or skill set and think Thompson is Presto’s brother from another mother and Mo is a goddamned machine but facts are facts, Coach has some thinking to do.
