Default Titans To Back All Schools Touch Competition

Titans To Back All Schools Touch Competition

The Gold Coast Titans are proud supporters of Queensland Touch Football, with the NRL Club taking naming rights to the sport’s biggest participation carnival.

From 2021, 6000 students from over 200 schools will play in the Gold Coast Titans All Schools tournament with the event to be played on the Gold Coast.

After previously being held in Brisbane, the world’s largest annual touch football tournament for secondary schools will call Runaway Bay home from next year.

Titans CEO Steve Mitchell says the Club is excited about being part of such a large event.

“We will have a big presence at the carnival,” Mitchell said.

“We have a number of former junior elite touch players in our ranks with AJ Brimson and Ash Taylor fine tuning their skills in the sport before transitioning to the NRL.

“Touch football’s birthplace is rugby league.

“The sport started with rugby league players playing touch football over summer to stay fit.

“The best young talent in the game of touch will be on display and personally I’m excited to see this new generation of talent coming through.

“There’ll be schools from all over Queensland participating, with national representation growing.

“You’ll see a lot of Titans Members, fans and the Rugby League community at this carnival. These are families who are NRL fans and rugby league participants, but who have kids that play touch football over the summer.

“We believe the Gold Coast is the best place in the country to play sport, and we can’t wait to play host to the schools and the more than 10,000 spectators that will be visiting for the event.”

All Schools Touch Tournament Director and Founder Peter Bell says the alignment is a great result for the sport.

“It’s massive for us,” Bell said.

“To be involved with brands like the NRL and the Titans in particular is massive for Touch Football generally.

“We think the All Schools tournament is a significant event and the partnership will be beneficial for both groups.”

I'm delighted to see this happen. We can reach a huge amount of people we otherwise wouldn't with an accessible pathway and connection.

Also happy to see Steve mention and underline the fact that touch football as we know it was born of Rugby League.

Hosting "all schools" is absolutely huge. It was often my concern that the titans targeted primary schools a little too much and were not involved with high schools as much. This is really good news.
