And that "no try" sent up stairs just shows how one sided the ref is. How many captains challenges did we get upheld too?

What a great way to never give up and play to the end. Great effort.

The Gold Coast Titans will make a significant statement in the club’s commitment to the women’s game, announcing the appointment of Karyn Murphy as the club’s Director of Female Rugby League.

The newly created full-time position will see Murphy coach the Titans NRLW team, with the role also focussed year-round on developing the women’s game within our catchment from Logan to Lismore.

The former Jillaroos captain had a playing career spanning 15 years that included four World Cup campaigns, 27 games for Australia and 20 games for Queensland.

A decorated former senior police inspector, Murphy leaves the NRL after seven years of service to the game as the Senior Investigator for the NRL’s Integrity Unit.

Titans CEO Steve Mitchell says the club identified the need to devote a full-time senior management and coaching resource to grow and advance the women’s game in our region.

“Karyn is an icon of our game and someone who is highly respected for what she has achieved and we are thrilled that she will be joining us,” Mitchell said.

“As the only female head coach in NRLW competition, we believe Karyn’s work in this space will provide will inspire new and developing female coaches within the game.

“Karyn will work with our NRLW players when they return to the state league and will support their respective BMD Premiership clubs.

“Having Karyn dedicated full-time to our programs will allow us to grow both our high performance and pathway programs, while also allowing her the time to build strong relationships with our players, our elite youth and their families.

“Karyn will help co-ordinate and deliver Future Female Titans Academies, the Titans School Girl Cup and work with our rugby league schools of excellence which is crucial in ensuring our pathway programs allow local juniors to progress to NRLW level.”

The Gold Coast Titans entered the NRLW competition this season, making the semi-finals in their inaugural campaign.

The season also saw the Titans claim victory over the Brisbane Broncos in their first Queensland derby clash.

In announcing Murphy’s appointment, Mitchell also acknowledged the work done by outgoing coach Jamie Feeney and his staff.

“To be able to recruit a squad of the calibre we have and to be able to contest the NRLW finals in our inaugural season is credit to Jamie,” Mitchell said.

“Jamie leaves a legacy as the clubs inaugural NRLW coach and I want to thank him for his contribution to the organisation.

“He is passionate about the women’s game and with a World Cup approaching, he will continue to focus on his role with the Jillaroos and advocate for women in rugby league.

“Ultimately as a club, we decided that to be serious about providing the best pathway for young female footballers, we needed to invest in making this role full-time.”

Feeney says he hopes what has been built in the foundation year will help the program grow to greater success.

“With a second season this year and my involvement with the Jillaroos and a World Cup at the end of the year, I’m now looking to spend more time with my young family and I’ll focus on my role as a teacher and coach with Marsden State High School,” he said.

“I’ll be watching the 2022 season closely to make sure we select the best squad of players to head to England in October to help us defend our World Cup title.

“I want to thank the Titans Legion and the wider community for their support and I hope to get along to games to support the team in the future.”

The Titans can also announce that former Melbourne Storm premiership winning player Matt Geyer will join Murphy’s coaching staff for the 2022 season.

Geyer, a former State of Origin representative, is a school teacher by trade and is currently working with Titans affiliated school Marymount College.

He has also been heavily involved and highly successful with the Currumbin Eagles both coaching and developing junior players from our region, including players already involved in our NRLW program.

I absolutely loved Matt Geyer as a player. What would we all pay to have a Matt Geyer in his prime on the field? Bit of an unsung legend.

Wow. I didn't know he was a school teacher. Really important influence in our quest to get the region behind us with new generations. There certainly is a lot more for young kids to aim for with the Titans.

Fantastic to have a dedicated Director of Female Rugby League. Welcome aboard, Karyn.

NRL’s top cop Karyn Murphy makes shock switch to become Gold Coast Titans NRLW coach
    http://www.couriermail.com.au
    Travis Meyn

The NRL Integrity Unit’s senior investigator, Karyn Murphy, has quit her role in a surprise move that will leave misbehaving NRL stars breathing a sigh of relief.

The NRL’s top cop has quit to head up the Gold Coast Titans’ women’s league program.

Misbehaving players will breathe a sigh of relief after former Jillaroos star Karyn Murphy resigned from the NRL following seven years as the Integrity Unit’s senior investigator.

A former police inspector, Murphy has been tasked with investigating the NRL’s seemingly endless off-field incidents.

Her work has resulted in numerous suspensions and fines being dished out to players and officials.

But Murphy will now return to the football side of the game after taking up a newly-created position at the Titans.

Murphy, who played 27 games for Australia and 20 for Queensland, has been appointed the Titans’ director of female rugby league, which includes the head coach’s role of the club’s NRLW team.

She will replace Jamie Feeney, who guided the Titans to a finals appearance in their first NRLW season, after the club opted to make the job a full-time role.

“Karyn is an icon of our game and someone who is highly respected for what she has achieved and we are thrilled that she will be joining us,” said Titans CEO Steve Mitchell.

“As the only female head coach in NRLW competition, we believe Karyn’s work in this space will inspire new and developing female coaches within the game.

“Karyn will help coordinate and deliver Future Female Titans Academies, the Titans School Girl Cup and work with our rugby league schools of excellence which is crucial in ensuring our pathway programs allow local juniors to progress to NRLW level.”

Murphy has already bolstered her NRLW staff by securing Melbourne Storm great Matt Geyer.

Murphy to coach Titans NRLW side in 2022
    https://www.nrl.com/news/2022/05/04/...-side-in-2022/

Australian Jillaroos legend Karyn Murphy will finish up at the NRL's integrity unit in the coming months and take over as head coach of the Titans NRLW side, the club confirmed on Wednesday.

Murphy, a former 25-year servant in the police force who has spent eight years at the NRL overseeing off-field matters, will return to Queensland to begin a new full-time director of female rugby league role and oversee the Titans' NRLW program.

The former Australian captain replaces Jamie Feeney in the leading coaches role and will become the second female to coach an NRLW side after former Kiwi Fern Luisa Avaiki did so at the Warriors for two seasons in 2018-19.

"Karyn is an icon of our game and someone who is highly respected for what she has achieved and we are thrilled that she will be joining us," Titans CEO Steve Mitchell said in a statement.

"As the only female head coach in NRLW competition, we believe Karyn’s work in this space will provide will inspire new and developing female coaches within the game.

"Having Karyn dedicated full-time to our programs will allow us to grow both our high performance and pathway programs, while also allowing her the time to build strong relationships with our players, our elite youth and their families."

Murphy has an extensive resume as a player and assistant coach at the State of Origin and international level after retiring from rugby league in 2015.

She made her international debut in 1998, playing 27 Tests which included World Cup success in 2013, and is current assistant coach of the Australian side alongside Feeney and Jillaroos coach Brad Donald.

She is regarded as one of the greatest women's players to ever lace on the boot and in 2018 was given the ultimate recognition with the player of the NRLW grand final each year named in her honour.

Murphy's next task when she arrives on the Gold Coast will be to assemble a competitive squad after a solid start to their NRLW history. She will be assisted by former Storm premiership-winner Matt Geyer in the club's second season.

The Titans reached the semi-finals in their inaugural season earlier this year before being knocked out by the Dragons at Leichhardt Oval for a fourth place finish.

NRLW clubs are currently looking to lock in their talent for the 2022 season and have until the end of May to sign at least 22 of 24 players under a new $350,000 salary cap in place.

The fifth NRLW season is expected to get underway in August with a mini pre-season set after players complete their state competition duties following State of Origin.

NRL.com understands a host of players from several clubs will move between seasons with the Titans and Knights among the big movers in recruitment.

Gold Coast struggled with depth in the halves during their first campaign and are looking to boost their stocks in that area by pulling off a major coup.

Newcastle have agreed to terms with at least five Roosters for next season including Jillaroos lock Hannah Southwell, who is expected to return home to the Hunter after four seasons in Sydney.

Gold Coast local Matt Geyer will be a valuable asset to the Titans' NRLW side, bringing 268 games of NRL knowhow as Karyn Murphy's right hand man.

Following the announcement of the former Queensland and Australian legend taking the reins of the club's women's team for the upcoming season, Geyer will bring an abundance of experience both on and off the field as her assistant.

The former State of Origin representative and premiership-winning half is a school teacher by trade, and is currently working with Titans-affiliated school Marymount College in Burleigh Heads.

He has also been heavily involved and highly successful with the Currumbin Eagles, both coaching and developing junior players from our region, including players already involved in the Titans' NRLW program.

Last year, Geyer took over reins of the Currumbin Eagles’ senior men’s side in the Gold Coast Cup after coming out of retirement to play alongside his two sons, Cole and Nash in 2020.

Titans chief executive Steve Mitchell was thrilled to have the NRL legend join the club.

"Matty Geyer is a wonderful coach and obviously had an esteemed career as a player in Melbourne and is now up here working at Marymount and at Currumbin," Mitchell said.

"My exposure with Matt was with his development work with young players. The standards that he sets, the values that he's got... he's a real man that wants to build community.

"His value set is super important to what we've got and he's been working with Karyn with things aside involving just footy, so their relationship is strong and they are suited in a lot of ways together."

The Melbourne Storm great will begin working with the Gold Coast later this year.

Video from a couple years ago talking about his coaching role at the Storm at the time. Really gives you an insight into what he is up to.

Titans NRLW Signings Tracker: Brown heads down M1 as marquee
    https://www.titans.com.au/news/2022/...nings-tracker/

Welcome to the Gold Coast Titans' Signings Tracker for the upcoming 2022 season.

Premiership-winning playmaker and Queensland Maroons representative Lauren Brown is heading down the M1, joining the Gold Coast Titans for the upcoming NRLW season.

Formerly a Brisbane Bronco, the versatile utility - who can play in the centres, halves and at hooker - was born and bred on the Gold Coast, making her first grade women’s rugby league debut in 2020 after starring for the Burleigh Bears in the QRL women’s competition, as well as a maiden Origin appearance in the same year.

A talented multi-code athlete, Brown has also played for the Brisbane Roar and Newcastle Jets in the W-League, and for Australia in the World Rugby Sevens series.

The 27-year-old will be one of the Titans’ two marquee signings, excited to wear her hometown’s colours for the upcoming NRLW season.

    Earlier signings news

Titans' player of the 2021 season Jessika Elliston and women's rugby league legend Steph Hancock have both re-committed to the Gold Coast for the upcoming campaign.

Making the switch from the edge to being a key impact middle forward, 24-year-old Elliston is excited to continue her barnstorming form into the club's second season in the expanded competition, especially under the guise of new head coach Karyn Murphy and assistant Matt Geyer.

Hancock - who was voted the Legion's most valuable player last season - came out of retirement to play in arguably her best NRLW season to date, she had no qualms in coming back and wants to get to the big dance after coming so close to grand final glory in the Coast's inaugural season earlier this year.

"I just had a little D&M with Gorden Tallis and in our heart-to-heart he asked... 'Listen, is it still burning in your belly?" Hancock shared at the recent Titans NRLW Awards Night.

"I said 'Gordy, I gave it away and never lost the feeling.'

"I've got unfinished business here. In year one, I thought we'd go all the way, but if the Titans will have me back, I'm back."

Stay tuned for more upcoming Titans NRLW signings to be announced soon.
