Yeah she’s struggling mate. Bad reads and cannot make a 1 on 1 tackle.

    - - - Updated - - -

We really don’t deserve to win this. Same problems as round 1 + Griffin can’t defend. They’ve even taken her out of the defensive line off the scrum, and have moved Gray over there to help her

    Griffin again

Goal kicking prop added for local derby clash

The Gold Coast Titans NRLW side will welcome back Brianna Clark for Saturday's historic home game at Cbus Super Stadium.

The local derby clash against the Brisbane Broncos will be the first ever game for the Titans in front of a home crowd on the Coast.

After strong performances over the first two weeks of the competition, Clark missed the Titans round three match against the Eels with a back injury.

The return of the goal-kicking forward means that Jessika Elliston moves back to the interchange bench.

Tazmin Gray will miss the match, with the Titans second rower pleading guilty to a crusher tackle. Her absence means Shaniah Power will be promoted to the starting side in jersey #17, while April Ngatupuna moves onto the interchange bench.

Make sure you're at Cbus Super Stadium for the Titans NRLW side's first ever game at home, with $20 from every ticket sold ($10 from Titans and $10 from Village Roadshow Theme Parks) to go towards flood recovery efforts.

ARLC announce expansion for NRLW, Women's State of Origin
    https://www.nrl.com/

The Australian Rugby League Commission has approved the expansion of the NRL Telstra Women’s Premiership, Ampol Women’s State of Origin and the introduction of a salary cap system which will increase average salaries by 28%.

To ensure new teams have time to prepare and allow further talent development, the 2022 NRLW season will remain at six teams before expanding to eight teams in 2023 and 10 teams in 2024. The Commission will determine new licences by July this year.

For the 2022 season, NRLW teams will move to a salary cap system with the salary cap set at $350,000 per team. The new system will increase average salaries by 28% and clubs will also be given the ability to contract up to two marquee players as full-time employees with additional salary cap dispensation. Private Health insurance will also be covered for all contracted NRLW players.

In 2022 Representative payments will increase substantially. State of Origin match payments will increase from $4000 to $6000 while All Stars payments will increase from $1,600 to $3000. From 2023, the Ampol Women’s State of Origin will expand to a 2-game stand alone series, with both games aired live on free-to-air television.

The Commission has also approved substantial increases in investment of junior female participation and pathways programs, including national age group championships as well as coaching and referee academies.

NRL Chief Executive Andrew Abdo said the Commission is committed to a sustainable growth strategy of the women’s game from grassroots participation to the elite level.

“Today is an exciting day for the women’s game. We’re expanding to eight teams in 2023 and 10 teams in 2024. We’re also introducing a salary cap for next season and creating the opportunity for more players to access full time employment through their club,’’ he said.

“The expansion of the NRLW competition and the introduction of the salary cap will ensure players earn substantially more income from our game.

There’s still a long way to go but this is another positive step in our growth journey for the NRLW.

"We’re experiencing significant growth in television audiences and that’s down to the players and the Commission will continue to invest and support that success.

“Importantly the announcements today are about ensuring a sustainable NRLW competition. We’ve always been very clear that we would ensure our playing talent is deep enough and our clubs are prepared before expanding. The lead-in time ahead of the next expansion phase will ensure our clubs have the right infrastructure in place and there is even more depth to our playing talent.”

Mr Abdo said all existing NRL Clubs would have the ability to submit applications to join the 2023 or 2024 seasons. The NRL will work with interested clubs over the coming months with the Commission to make final assessments and approve licence applications in July.

The Commission will focus on investment in female pathways to ensure the playing talent pool continues to grow.

“Today is not just about the elite game, it’s also about building stronger participation and pathways," he said.

“The Commission is focussed on building the women’s game from the bottom up. Not just encouraging more participation as players but also more female coaches and female referees. Right across the game we will continue to work to create pathways for women regardless of whether they want to play, coach, referee or be an administrator.”

Mr Abdo thanked the NRLW playing group and RLPA for their input throughout the process.

“I want to thank our players. They were incredibly patient while we ensured we could launch a 2021 season which gave everyone the opportunity to play and we’ve had really constructive conversations with the RLPA about the next steps in our growth strategy," he said.

“I also want to acknowledge our partners. Particularly Telstra along with Nine and Fox Sports who are incredibly committed to growing, investing and promoting the women’s game.”

The Broader Game: Queensland derby set to ignite bitter rivalry
    https://www.nrl.com/news/2022/03/16/...itter-rivalry/

The Titans and Broncos will kick off their cross-town rivalry at Cbus Super Stadium on Saturday but behind the scenes the rivalry between the two clubs has been in full swing for months.

Gold Coast’s inclusion into the 2021 NRL Telstra Women’s Premiership was welcomed by plenty in the game but immediately had the championship Broncos wary of having their top players taken.

It is well-known the Titans targeted several marquee stars at the Broncos to join them for the current NRLW season under the current talent equalisation model, only to be turned down on all occasions.

Only three players were signed by the Titans in the end – Jessika Elliston, Shannon Mato and Zara Canfield - after winning the NRLW title at Brisbane in 2020.

    Mato keeps the Titans alive
Seven players in the Titans squad have played at Red Hill in previous years while a quarter of the Broncos squad reside in the south-east Queensland region.

Broncos prop Millie Boyle was one who knocked the Titans back on a marquee deal despite living down the road from the club’s training facilities and Cbus Super Stadium.

“I just really like the Broncos team we have and spent two seasons here already and had a lot of success so thought why would I want to leave?,” Boyle said.

“Just because a new team came in and I lived around the corner didn’t mean I wanted to change any of the things I’d done.

    Millie Boyle opens the scoring
“I love our team, our coach and staff so it was important to me to keep those girls together. It has created a bit of a stir but I’m enjoying it and feel like it was the right decision in the end.

“The Titans are a competitive team who will be fired up at home and we had a really close game against the Dragons. It’s good to see the competition so close and it challenges us to be better.”

Brisbane will be looking to make life difficult for their cross-town rivals on Saturday with the Titans’ one-win and two-loss record threatening to derail their finals hopes.

Having already secured their spot in the finals, the Broncos are unlikely to hold back given the build-up to the local derby, particularly with a few predicting an all-Queensland NRLW grand final.

In a first for both clubs, they’ll remain in Queensland for the next fortnight as part of the draw with the Broncos to host their second-ever home game ever at Suncorp Stadium in round five.

“I’ve never played an NRLW game in Queensland so it will be good to have a support base there and have people who can make the trip,” Boyle said.

“It will just be good to not have to travel to a game by going to an airport. We’ve learned to do adapt to whatever we need to do but this is the third year I’ve played and finally we’re home.

“Hopefully we get some good support. We’ve always had people who have backed us.”

    Siren mishap prompts apology
Still on the Titans and the NRL has apologised to the club over an early siren mishap that left players and referee Kasey Badger confused eight minutes before half-time on Sunday.

A software error prompted the siren to sound and the clock to show no time left on the scoreboard midway through the first half at CommBank Stadium.

Titans captain Brittany Breayley-Nati kicked the ball out on the full after taking the tap, turning the ball over as the time remaining reappeared.

Parramatta kicked a penalty goal to level the match 10-10 at the break before going on to claim a 24-14 win.

    Stakes rise for Canberra Origin
The expanded women’s State of Origin in 2023 just got a whole lot more important for this year’s result with the winner to hold the trophy for as long as the other state wins two games to reclaim it back.

Current champions Queensland will be hoping to make it a third-straight crown in 2022 which will make things difficult for NSW to claw their way back in future years under the two-game series.

The losing side this year will need to win next year’s series 2-0 to reclaim the shield as the NRL moves towards a three-game match in the future.

    Chapman's not-so fast car

Jaime Chapman had a disruptive build-up to her clash against the Broncos last week with the Dragons winger a victim of crime just 48 hours out from the game.

Chapman's car was broken into ahead of the fixture with the thieves stealing her football bag which contained her boots and training kit.

Thankfully, boot sponsor Adidas got involved and were able to provide her with a fresh pair of wheels just in time.

Chapman was among the best on field in last week's loss with 101 metres and four tackle busts.

    Bo knows records
Botille Vette-Welsh allowed NSW teammate Millie Boyle just a fortnight in holding the record for most metres by an NRLW player in a match by churning out a whopping 272 against the Titans on Sunday.

Vette-Welsh has taken her game to new heights in 2022 with 70-minute effort including eight tackle busts.

Boyle previously broke Jess Sergis' record in 2019 during round one this season with 223 metres before Vette-Welsh went past that mark last week.

Clubs have one eye on 2022
The signing window for NRLW clubs to sign players for the 2022 season scheduled for later this year is likely to open before the 2021 grand final on April 10, prompting some clubs to move fast on retaining some of their roster.

Contracts for the next season, which the NRL announced on Tuesday will be centred around a $350,000 salary cap, are in the process of being drawn out, but it hasn't stopped clubs from already planning for the future.

The NRLW has averaged around 50 percent player turnover on average per squad across the past four seasons and with a new cap system in place, player movement could be more rife than ever.

NRL and NRLW sides share special jersey presentation
    https://www.titans.com.au/news/2022/...-presentation/

Last weekend represented a moment in history for the Gold Coast Titans, as both a men's and women's team played on the same day in a double header with the Parramatta Eels.

While the Titans may not have got the points on the field, it was a day that has been years in the making with the strength of the Titans community a driving force behind the club's inception into the NRLW.

With differing schedules the two team's paths don't always cross but the weekend represented a special moment for both sides to come together and present their jerseys ahead of round 3 in the NRLW and round 1 in the NRL.

Titans respective head coaches, Jamie Feeney and Justin Holbrook, along with CEO Steve Mitchell, spoke about the importance the weekend held and the support that they would be showing for each others teams.

"Nights like the one we had are so important to our club and our community." CEO Steve Mitchells said.

"We represent the whole of our community from Logan to Lismore and now we have teams for every person in that catchment to aspire to be a part of.

"Just getting on the field is the beggining, but we want to make them proud with our performances as well."

After travelling down to Sydney on the same flight, the teams then stayed at the same hotel before both taking on the Eels at Commbank Stadium.

Each player presented a jersey to their positional counterpart in a special moment of unity across the club.

The teams will again combine together this weekend for the first home game at Cbus Super Stadium in 2022.

The men will take on the New Zealand Warriors, while the women take on the Brisbane Broncos in what is sure to be the beginning of a fierce rivalry just as it is in the men's.

Tickets are still available and $20 from every ticket sold goes towards the flood relief programs that the Gold Coast Titans and partner, Village Roadshow Theme Parks are supporting. Grab your tickets here.

'Enjoy it, but do whatever it takes': Feeney fired up to claim NRLW derby
    https://www.titans.com.au/news/2022/...im-nrlw-derby/

This weekend's occasion couldn't be anymore important for the Gold Coast Titans NRLW side.

The clash against the Brisbane Broncos will be the first home game at Cbus Super Stadium, the first time they'll meet their interstate rivals in the local derby and is a must-win if they want they control their destiny into finals and not have to rely on results going their way to play past the home and away season.

The stakes are high, as is the pressure and no one knows that more than coach Jamie Feeney, who has worked hard to prepare his side for the ladder leaders on Saturday.

"It's all in our hands. We’re going to be the ones who will win or lose the game," Feeney said.

"All credit to our opposition, but I think the two games we’ve lost have been from our wrongdoings. We’ve been in both of those games and it’s been up to us to get ourselves out of those games. Unfortunately, we didn’t have the energy because we coughed too much footy up.

"It’s been in our hands and this weekend is no different. The pressure will be there and hopefully our girls will perform."

There in numbers, parochially helping overcome the challenge will be the roaring Legion of members and fans, with the match the first time the NRLW Titans will run out at Cbus Super Stadium, ahead of the NRL Titans playing the Warriors at 2pm.

"I’m very excited. Last week was exciting that we got to play in front of the boys as well," Feeney said.

"Whenever the two teams can play at the same ground and particularly this weekend at our home ground, then it’s going to be a really big occasion for everyone."

Although missing stars Tamika Upton and Millie Boyle through injury and illness, the Gold Coast coach knows they'll still be on top of their game as the reigning three-time premiers.

"They’ll bring what they always do. They’re consistently good every week and they'll bring their game," Feeney said.

"It’s supposed to be the interstate rivalry although we haven’t played each other before, so I’m guessing they’ll bring their intensity, and we have to match it.

"If there’s ever a game that we’re going to be up for, it should be our first home game in front of our community, so hopefully our girls will be prepared and ready for the battle."

Also inspiring the motivation to get the two points is the Titans' flood recovery fundraiser, with $20 from every ticket sold for this weekend's double header going towards relief programs for devastated areas in South East Queensland and Northern New South Wales.

"It is a great and supportive club, not just in response to what’s happening now, but we're proactive in getting out into the community and supporting so many initiatives," Feeney said.

"Some of the video footage and some of our players have gone down, particularly as far south as Lismore and into those areas and they’ve just been devastated.

"It’s a great initiative by us and just another great thing this club does for the Gold Coast and our extended communities."

Gates open from 11.30am for the NRLW derby at 11.50am against the Broncos, before the NRL Round 2 clash between the Titans and Warriors at 2pm.
