The Gold Coast Titans paid for a $10,000 security system to be installed at the property star signing David Fifita was chased out of.

Following a News Corp investigation, the Titans have disclosed details to the NRL about the payment made to the family involved in Fifita’s bizarre trespassing saga during the Christmas break.

League sources confirmed the payout was in relation to the installation of a security gate and cameras at the property.

Fifita, who turns 21 on Thursday, was arrested after being found inside a Gold Coast property on December 27, but was later released without charge and issued a caution by police.

Despite the incident occurring nearly two months ago, the NRL insisted its investigation wasn’t formally completed and on Tuesday requested further information from the Titans.

Fifita and the Titans were expected to escape sanctions until the NRL was made aware of the payment, which is now set to be included in the Gold Coast’s salary cap.

The Titans reserved $600,000 in their 2021 salary cap in the hope Cameron Smith would opt to continue his NRL career with the Gold Coast.

That will ensure the Titans remain compliant with the Fifita pay-off included in their salary cap, but doesn’t change the fact the club did not inform the NRL of the agreement.

On top of the salary cap inclusion, the Titans are expected to be fined by the NRL for not disclosing the payment to the league.

The Integrity Unit must also decide whether to formally interview Fifita and the Titans again given the new information which has been uncovered.

With Fifita escaping police charges, the issue was expected to be resolved without any sanctions.

However the revelations of a secret payment have raised questions about what actually transpired during the incident to prompt compensation.

The NRL is hoping to finalise the matter within a week given the 2021 season officially kicks off in a fortnight and player behaviour issues have once again marred the off-season.

Fifita has been named to make his first appearance in Titans colours in Saturday night’s trial game against New Zealand at Lismore.

The Titans will be desperate to have Fifita cleared and available for the start of the season, which includes a Round 2 grudge match against former club Brisbane at a packed Cbus Super Stadium.

Well at least the family is safe from the hoard of future intoxicated NRL players that their daughter may invite around.

Stupidity on the clubs behalf but every club sweeps dirt under the carpet, we just don't have the media resources to squash it like others do.

100% this. The amount of worse indiscretions and brushes with the law that I know for a fact Broncos players have been involved with but have had swept under the rug in the past 12 months is phenomenal.

Simple. We just need a PR stunt. A way of diverting attention away from the negative and onto the heroic positive!

Something like...oh, I dunno...perhaps a few of the players could "stumble" across a domestic situation unfolding on the way home from training. Save the damsel in distress from her certain doom by subduing the angry monster of a man that is threatening her until the law arrives. Then we saturate social media with news of our knights in shining armour!!

Sound familiar? It's worked once lol...I wonder if those same brave knights involve themselves, without any thought for self preservation, every time they witness a domestic in full swing? Like when you see those shameless people screaming abuse at each other in shopping centre carparks etc etc

Key Matchup: Don v Maumalo battle on the wing in Lismore

Two of the NRL's best finishes are our players in focus ahead of Saturday's pre-season trial match at Lismore's Oakes Oval.

For the Titans, it's Northern Rivers local Anthony Don.

The Club's leading try scorer will have a homecoming of sorts, after growing up nearby in Grafton.

Don had another successful season in 2020, crossing for 10 tries in his 16 appearances for the Gold Coast.

The 33-year-old is heading into his ninth season of NRL football and brings both experience and class to the end of the Titans backline.

His opposite this weekend will be the Warriors Ken Maumalo.

At 191cm and 111kg, Maumalo is one of the most destructive wingers in the game.

He scored five tries from eight appearances for the Warriors in 2020 and will be looking to for a strong start to 2021.

Both players will provide plenty of spark in attack with their kick returns and finishing ability on show for a big crowd in Lismore.

Tickets are still available for the match and can be bought at visitlismore.com.au

Brimson, Proctor both fit for Lismore clash

AJ Brimson and Kevin Proctor are fit and ready to fire this weekend, as the Titans take on the New Zealand Warriors in Lismore.

In another positive for the Club, all of the Titans players involved in the first week of pre-season football have returned without injury.

"The squad is looking really healthy," said Titans High Performance Manager Klint Hoare.

"The fortunate thing with the All Stars tournament is that we suffered no injuries and also in the trial against Burleigh we had no injuries."

The match at Lismore's Oakes Oval will see AJ Brimson return to the field after the foot injury he picked up in the State of Origin series.

"AJ had a little minor setback a few weeks ago when he rolled an ankle and tweaked that but he is back flying again," Hoare said.

"He's been in all of the drills and is back in full opposed (sessions)."

After missing the All Stars clash through injury, Kevin Proctor will also return for the clash against the Warriors.

"Kevin's done really well returning from a slight strain to the hamstring.

"We've managed his load and he will be flying against the Warriors this weekend."

One player who is missing from this weekend's team sheet is Sam McIntyre, with the Titans recruit still recovering from a foot injury.

"He's a hard one because he's like a bull at a gate, he's brought plenty of energy amongst the squad but he has had his load monitored," Hoare said.

"He'll return hopefully next week in the Burleigh against Tweed game and he should be around for round one."

With an extended squad named for the trial match, Hoare says he expects the trial to be used as a chance to build combinations ahead of another meeting against the Warriors in round one.

"It's up to the coaches this weekend what time management they have with the players.

"What we'll do this weekend is look at combinations and cohesiveness.

"We'll rotate our middles and playing down in Lismore we're not too sure what the heat will be like, so we'll just see how we go on Saturday night."

Tricky this trial. Do we go full pelt into them with everything we've got for a trial...or do we just do what we need to and get through the game fully fit...and then go full throttle in round one???

IMO we keep our powder dry and use this game as a full blown trial of our defensive systems. Let the guys play in attack but don't give away any plans we have for the first regular season game.

Looking for a good start with that starting team then when the interchange depth happens let the chips fall where they may.

I reckon it might get a bit fiery. AFB will be out to stamp his authority in their pack, and will probably get up to his usual tricks of stirring the pot off the ball. Tino won't take a backwards step and will be first in to protect his mate.

I'm sure they'll have pretty much the same game plan as us for this trial...the true test will probably be in seeing who can stick to the instructions given. That will most likely be where the most confidence (more so than a win) will be gained for round 1.

I'll go in early and predict a huge hit out by Lisone. I think he'll really rise to the occasion.

Just for a bit of fun...lets do a pre game 3,2,1 vote and see how we go.

    3 - Lisone
    2 - Marzhew
    1 - Taylor
    Honourable mention - Beau Fermor

It's game day. Who else is gonna watch it with us? Who is actually at the game?

I remember going to a trial in Lismore in 2007. I'm glad we are still having games down there.
