Lucky we had some cash sitting there. Good signing. Defensive issues
All that worries me is looking up his history “ Defensive lapses plagued his start at the club, with his combination on the right side with Kyle Feldt the worst in the competition for conceding tries” which is concerning given our garbage edge defence. However, he has huge potential and maybe he unlocks it here. Hope he proves everyone wrong and a quality signing for peanuts I imagine
Esan Marsters is an extremely talented footballer. His form in 2018 had him as one of the best centers in the NRL. unfortunately he's a little lazy and lacks enthusiasm. Hopefully Mal and Justin can sort this out and allows him to rediscover some form. He is also only 24 and the only reason he wasn't playing at the Cows was his attitude.
His defence is suspect but at the moment i'd take anything over Sami's defensive efforts
I'm going to trust Ezra Howe on this one. It feels like once the U-20's fell through there's been a lack of those 'turn nothing into something' running halves, so if you can get your hands on one it's probably best you take that opportunity to. Especially with the ones we have on the roster now, not sure any of those guys have that ability to flip the game on it's head, Paul Turner, even though i'll admit im not the biggest fan, has the potential to do that. Low risk, high reward signing.
Ok lol just as I was typing this out we pick up Esan Marsters too lmao. Out of nowhere big time, kind of okay with that, gives me Konrad Hurrell mid-2016 vibes, buy-low, might give you some value? Another body there in the centres at least. Makes me nervous for Treymain Spry's future here.

I also thought that we had filled out top 30 already. I really hope this has nothing to do with Spry
Yeah tackle efficiency sitting at 74%. No worse than what we have. Good mates with Corey Thompson too. A stint in reserves may have him want to play footy again, if not, he's no worse than Sami or Don or whoever else is going to be rammed into the outside backs whilst CT is out*.
* Excluding Fermor
The Gold Coast Titans have signed exciting outside back Esan Marsters until the end of 2022.
The New Zealand international immediately joins the Titans squad after being granted a release by the North Queensland Cowboys.
The 24-year-old will take the final spot in the Titans top-30 playing roster.
Titans Coach Justin Holbrook says Marsters will be valuable addition to his squad.
“Esan is a quality player and will fit in really well with what we’re building at the Titans,” Holbrook said.
“He’ll bring energy and effort and he also brings experience having played test football six times for New Zealand and once for the Cook Islands.
“With Corey Thompson and Patrick Herbert on the sidelines, there’s no doubt he will be an important player in the short term for our side but he also adds plenty as we build our roster for finals football for this year and beyond.
“We look forward to welcoming him to the Gold Coast and we’re excited about him becoming a Titan.”
Masters has played 76 NRL games, making his debut for the Wests Tigers in 2017.
He’s played three times in 2021 for the Cowboys and three games in the Intrust Super Cup with the Blackhawks.

No link that was off reddit. Looks like it is an immediate signing due to our injury's
Our recruitment drive in the past 18 months targeting smaller names/guys that couldn't get a run in at their clubs (not Fifita) has netted us - Jamal Fogarty, Corey Thompson, Tino Faasuamaleaui, Beau Fermor, Sam McIntyre and Patty Herbert.
The lesson here?.. Should probably buy Paul Turner and Esan Marsters stock lol.
Defensively he is horrible, id back the coach if I had seen any sort of defensive improvement the last 3 weeks but I havnt. No doubt holbrook will have him firing in attack but without defence there's no point even showing up.
We obviously need bodies due to injuries but geez his history has me worried.
Am aware of his defensive deficiencies, but just had a look at his 2018-19 highlight video on YouTube ( yes, i know highlights only), but looks like strictly right side centre and combined with Corey Thompson when he was at Tigers for 4 or 5 tries. Wondering if Coaches can get his defensive reads sorted if we could maybe see a backline of
Brimson
Herbert
Kelly
Marsters
Thompson
Top tier attacking talent but has had some real defensive struggles over his career. Can't imagine he cost a whole lot and is an improvement on our current options given injury toll so I'm ok with it. We probably needed another specialist centre as our wing:centre ratio was pretty poor.
Shocked that he's only 24 - seems like he has been around forever.
Hope the ball gets past Prcotor so he actually gets the chance to do something
Paul Turner had a shoulder reconstruction a month ago. Masters is an interesting signing. A genuine centre with big game experience. I like it.
A mate of mine is a tigers fan and tells me he was released immediately from the tigers with 12 months to go on his contract there and went to the cowboys. Then when Green left the cowboys last year, Hannay dropped Masters and told him he was free to look for another club. Then Payten got the coaching gig and told Masters he was part of his plans for the cowboys future. Now released immediately.
Hope he will be more settled here.
