I’m going to have a crack at this mainly to see how my thoughts will change before next season.

    1. AJ
    2. GL - I know he hasn’t played yet but I think he will bring something to our back 3 that is currently missing.
    3. Kelly
    4. YT
    5. Sami/Pearson - not overly phased either way but probably prefer Pearson’s bigger frame if I had to choose.
    6. Boyd - for now but I think our long term 6 once he matures will be Sexton. He looks to be a fantastic runner of the ball.
7 Taylor - he has to be 7 and firing for us to seriously contend. If he gets back to his early days we will be a serious threat. Holbrook is the man to get him there I feel.
    8. Mo
    9. Peats - apart from Grant/Smith/Smith I haven’t realistically heard a better alternative yet. Would need to be re-signed on a cheaper deal and told to run more and push through the middle but defensively he is one of the better rakes in the whole comp.
    10. Wallace - needs an ego check and told to sort his discipline but we need some experience out there.
    11. Fafita
    12. Proctor
    13. Ese Ese

    14. Peachey
    15. Joliffe
    16. Hipgrave
    17. Tino

Unlucky to miss out: Spry - I see him more of a centre but he will get a crack with injury. Fermor - 18th man and first cab off the rank when injury hits. Fogarty - Boyd’s versatility to play 9 could work in rotation when/if Peats comes off.

Others: Thompson, Whitbread, Rein, Clarke, Don are all only depth. Give a youngster a go if they are playing better in QCup.

Finally, great post TP. Some very good thoughts in there.

    correct about Peats.

with a proper forward pack that we seem likely to have next year, and a proper organising half like Fogarty is proving to be - Peats job is a lot easier. Doesn’t need to create as much. Just give great service and be a rock in defence.

After the Cows game I want to post my 17 for 2021.

If Kelly only passed to Sami the defense would never be in two minds and that’s what I liked about Copley too. They might be an unfashionable pairing but they’ll do me. Apart from AJ, Young T, Thompson, Sami, Don and Pearson round out the outside backs until Spry, GL or whoever come along. Not too fussed about coverage there in the short term.

JaiJo Joliffe has impressed me from the beginning. Him and MoFo run a little flat from time to time but let’s not forget they’re still kids. James, S Boyd and Wallace were supposed to mentor them but instead it’s been Holbrook and Cokey with a bit of Lisone. When we add Ese’ese then our rotation looks better.

With a focused and motivated 80 mins Peats we get what we originally thought we were getting. An experienced tackling machine plus a leader who can pass and scoot a bit. Rein and Clark have too many faults in their game. That leaves us a bench space for a utility. We need to develop new specialist talent there but if Peats can stay on song then that keeps T Boyd in the 14 with Fogarty and Taylor emerging. There is too much expectation on Taylor who is now earning his keep and not enough recognition for Fogarty who has supplied a pivotal missing piece.

And so to the back row. With Proctor, Peachey and Hipgrave we know what we get. Add Difita and Tino then we look good. Fermor and Farmer are pretty much development players and Stone doesn’t offer enough.

    1. AJ (not much doubt now)
    2. Young T
    3. Copley
    4. Kelly
    5. Pearson
    6. Taylor
    7. Fogarty
    8. MoFo
    9. Peats
    10. Jolliffe
    11. Proctor
    12. Difita
    13. Tino

    14. T. Boyd
    15. Ese’ese
    16. Wallace
    17. Hipgrave

Good side titanic, and I agree about Ash - he is doing a good job.

he isn’t slashing through the defence, and he will never be on the ball as much as some elite halves, but moves the ball well to his 2nd rower and isn’t afraid to give quick early ball to his centre. I like what he is doing for the most part and would really like it if his salary reflected his modest standing. But if he is willing to take a hair cut on the next deal I can see him sticking around in that 6 for a while.

Agreed with the comments about Ash, and it was really good to see him run the ball 12 times yesterday, really wish that try was allowed because it would've been huge for his confidence. I also loved the play he did in the first half when he quickly wrapped around from left to right and then tapped it onto AJ. The execution was a little off and AJ bobbled it, but it was a great play and with AJ's speed he was still able to create a break. I also really like how our halves are linking up with eachother too and not restricting themselves to 1 side of the field, good coaching from Justin.

After reflection and evaluation on our end of year form and the combinations which have been built I would be going with:
    1. Brimson
    2. Spry (Left)
    3. Kelly (Left)
    4. Sami (Right)
    5. Thompson (Right)
    6. Taylor
    7. Fogarty
    8. Fotuaika
    9. Rein
    10. Tino
    11. Proctor
    12. Fifita
    13. Peachey

    Interchange:
    14. Fermor
    15. Ese Ese
    16. Jollife
    17. Wallace

    18. Boyd
    19. Lisone
    20. Don
    21. Stone

    Reasonings:
I think if he bulks up and adds a bit of size then holbrook could really develop phil sami into a solid centre. Played there in the juniors and i reckon he has the skill set for it. I'm sure there will be some off season signings in this position but right now phil would be my first choice.

Leaving the don out was hard but i just think thompson and spry offer more. Thompson's running game and ability to break tackles as well as spry's big frame and development. I think treymain will develop a handy combination with kelly as the season goes on also.

I would leave Peach at 13. I think his really made that jersey his own and found his own role within the team. I think he'll only get better there the more he plays. Especially playing off the back of tino and fifita who can generate quick play the balls.

The bench is heavy with 3 middles and it's the only thing i was really stuck on (I'd try fit T.Boyd in there somewhere) but i think we have the versitility to cover any injuries and i'd be backing a guy like mitch rein to have a big pre season and become an 80 minute hooker even if the game is getting quicker. Fermor can slot into the centres and back row and a guy like tyrone peachey can almost play anywhere you need him even if it isn't ideal as it contradicts my previous point.

Next year i think we're spoilt for middles with the emergance of jolliffe, remergance of wallace and the quality signings of tino, ese ese and lisone.

I'm excited but staying grounded. Next year i think we'll have a quality team running out representing our jersey whatever way it goes.

Jonus Pearson will be back from injury too so that allows more flexibility in the backs. Spry to centre and Jonus to the wing etc

Like all the options but somehow feel that one of Tino or Difita may have to come off the bench, if not then it must be Lisone otherwise we don't have any real impact forwards coming on. The similar body shapes of Fermor and Stone make them competitors for a spot so there will be some disappointed lads next year, injuries permitting. I'd leave Kelly and Spry (face gladly covered in humble pie) where they are (if it ain't broke ...) but the right side is wide open.

Well...I don't think we missed Hipgrave's errors and poor discipline over the past month so he doesn't make my 17 next year. But most of you would have already guessed that.

i know what you mean about the left side. Spry could probably handle centre, but why not print money down that left edge for a season or two and let him develop more there before moving him. In the meantime he and Kelly could be a lattrell / tupou type powerhouse

leaves the right short, but that left side feels stacked with Ash on song like he is. imagine if Fifi played left edge. That’s some serious size and mobility.

I think Thompson deserves a spot on right wing, and maybe we trust Coach to sort it like he has almost everywhere else.

I’m fairly certain that Fafita told the Broncos caretaker coach to play him at left edge because that is his preferred side. Proctor was always a right edge player so it would make sense to play them that way you’d think.

Fifi on the left edge with ash, Kelly and spry is frightening.

I like bb17's team, feel there is still good punch off the bench plus versatility with fermor and peachy in the side we can cover mostly every position.

My only fear is that right edge, most teams strongest attack is down their left side (our right defensively) and between sami and Thompson there isn't much size there so they would really need to be on point with their reads each game.

As I think spry plays right centre in q cup (could be wrong), I think they could line up

Pearson kelly ash fifi on left

Proctor jamal spry sami/thompson/don on right

    1. Brimmo
    2. Spry left
    3. Kelly left
    4. Herbert right
    5. Thompson right
    6. Taylor
    7. Fogarty
    8. Tino
    9. Rein
    10. Wallace (plays a hard 20 minutes) honestly just think he plays best when starting but i wouldnt play him for long minutes.
    11. Proctor -left
    12. Fifita - right
    13. Peachey
    14. Fermor - can play center or 2nd row or even come on in the middle for limited minutes.
    15. Mo ( comes on for wallace plays a long 60 minutes )
    16. Lisone Impact prop
    17. Joliffe
    18. Ese Ese

We will have injuries with the middles so they will be rotating through the year. Im hoping we rotating between Tino and Mo starting, have either to come off the bench at around 20 minutes each match is a major luxury and they compliment the other props like Joliffe and Wallace well.

Also i love all our depth players.
