More than a million rugby league fields worth of land – over 850,000 hectares – has been destroyed in NSW alone since the start of this year’s horrific bushfire season.

And as catastrophic conditions have been forecast as fires continue to rage across Queensland and NSW, the Gold Coast Titans are calling on all rugby league fans – but especially those within the Club’s catchment area – to dig deep in support of those caught up in this disaster.

While our thoughts and prayers are with the communities caught up in these terrible fires, and the brave volunteers and emergency services officers fighting the blazes, there are a number of ways you can support the firefighting and relief and recovery efforts.

Donations of money and quality items to support those affected by the fires can be made through disaster relief campaigns being run by GIVIT and The Salvation Army

Titans Chief Executive Steve Mitchell encouraged everyone in the Gold Coast and Northern Rvers community to do what they can to help those in need.

“The images and stories that we have been hearing out of these bushfire disaster zones have been nothing short of horrific,” Mitchell said.

“The trauma and heartbreak these communities are going through has been unbearable – through the destruction of property and, tragically, the loss of life.

“The Titans are standing by ready to assist in the relief efforts, but we have been advised by emergency services that, at this stage, the best way to show support is to encourage everyone to donate what they can to help these communities and the families that live in them to recover and get back on their feet.

“Donating to these disaster relief campaigns will ensure that the people affected, and the crews on the ground fighting the fires, will have access to the essentials they need to keep going until this horrible situation passes.

“The Titans will be ready when required to support these communities that support us. Until then, we encourage everyone to contribute what they can to the fundraising campaigns.”
