Coach Justin Holbrook is liking the look of Jamal Fogarty and he's very close to getting his opportunity.

So Bulldogs get Bateman as well as Thompson. Who do we get to at least replace arrow? Probably nobody because we don't have the money for anyone decent. Shame.

I’d much rather have Tino. We already have a lesser version of Bateman in Peachey. Our recruitment in the recent years has failed to identify the types of players that we need to compliment the existing squad. What we really require in our forward pack is a couple of hard running aggressive mobile forwards. I think Tino will fit that description

I honestly don't think we have seen the best of Hipgrave either.

What we need is leaders and game-breakers. The problem with complimenting our current squad is that 90% are not NRL standard. Signing on potential has been disastrous for us in the past. Tino is going to be a step down from arrow IMO and we paid overs aswell. He could be solid/reliable. From what I have seen he is just that, nowhere near the elite forwards in the game. Surely we need to get our hat in the ring for Bateman. We have made public our pursuit for Fifi... so we have the money. I fear we will be left clutching at straws.

I’d rather we go hard for Fifita. He’s worth a mil imo. He’s that good and has ties to the Coast. Bateman on the other hand is good but not a game breaker in the same class as Fifita and has no ties here. He’s a mercenary and not what we need.

Yes, I tend to agree. I think Bateman is more of a realistic chance of signing though. Surely Fifi stays at the broncos and just uses us to get his price up. We are going to look really silly when a player we want doesn't sign, yet again. But fingers crossed I am wrong!

That’s the nature of professional sports. Shouldn’t stop us from trying because the alternative is doing nothing. Eventually we will get our Ponga. Shame that Ash doesn’t appear to be it.

Have to disagree re Tino. For his age and his level of development as a professional footballer, he is well above average. Yes he is probably a step down from Arrow but so is 90% of the NRL. I don't think we paid overs when the Warriors offered more as well. Technically we secured him below his market value.

I think an important question is do we need a specialist Lock or do we need better quality edge Back Rowers? I think we need both, but I don't think Fifi is a replacement for Arrow. They're uniquely different types of players that play a very different role in a squad. If we by some miracle signed Fifi, we still need a lock that can play the role needed in our team.

IMO Bateman isn't the type of player we should be chasing either. He's great. But he's playing in one of the most physically dominant squads in the comp with a lot of go-forward ball. We need more players that create that type of dynamic before we sign players that complement it.

Let's not forget we have a good crop of young Back Rowers coming through of varying dynamics as well - Farmer, Fermor, Seiuli, Compain and Powell are all promising and whilst it isn't wise to rely on youth, it is exciting that for the first time in our history we have a decent crop of enthusiastic young back rowers with very different playing styles.

Well said HS totally agree with your points, I must say I keep forgetting about Fermor this bloke once fit will be a surprise to many if he gets back to peak fitness and isn't cruelled by injury, from watching him play the last couple of years and and up and coming junior he does remind me of a arrow type player

A million for Fifita? No thanks. We need time and then a rebuild. Unfortunate but that’s the reality. Hope we have enough time to achieve it.

I rate him as second only to Taumalolo. He’s also future captaincy material and, to keep Bods happy, is a local junior.

Sorry Fifita is not a local junior, yes he attended school here but not a junior, an outstanding player though

John Bateman not the type of player we need. That will do me.

I can't remember the exact numbers but there was a pretty telling stat that showed Canberra's W/L ratio being much better with him in that side as opposed to when he was sitting on the sidelines.

IMO he is exactly what we need. He's a strong lad, runs hard, has a good offload and he's always busy no matter where they play him. Has a bit of mongrel in him too. Kinda sounds like the guy whose leaving us next year?

Fifita would be a good get but let's face it, he's staying at the Broncos.
