If they're contributing to half his salary i may be interested
For $400k It'd be worth a look if we can offload Peachey.
I think Holbrook has shows he's got a plan and has been smart with his signings and must be quietly looking for a hooker so if he thinks mbye is the right fit I'll back him. Hopefully mbye is excited to come here to a club on the rise and is willing to take a pay cut. That would show how far we've come so soon since Holbrook has been here, last year Garth would've been splashing the cash paying overs for guys like mbye like Peachey Boyd and carty
As a straight swap for Peachey, I don’t mind it if Tigers are paying half. Not sure he’s our best option at hooker though. Peats should be retained in my opinion.
Don't know how I feel about Mbye, he hasn't set the world on fire but he seems to be decent in defence, goal kicker (albeit not the best) and a captain. My concern is if we go after him we won't be going after a specialist hooker next year eg Brandon Smith
These are pretty much my thoughts. I'm a " No" to the idea of him coming here. Yep we may only pay him $100k-$200k on our cap for the next few years but I don't see him as a utility or a hooker at all. He's a back up half and a centre at best. I worry about his injuries as well.
I'm all in chasing a genuine hooker if Peats is going or developing a hooker. I can't see Brandon Smith coming here. C Smith would be a dream but I wouldn't discount putting a offer to Harry Grant. Reasons are he is a Yeppoon boy and will be closer to his parents and Jonas Pearson in also from Yeppoon as well so it gives him familiar face.

I thought peats has improved and I am seriously against mbye coming here. Hes a player who's always been ok but never been good or great. He's never had a set position and its a jack of all trades master of none type of guy. We need a specialist hooker, not a makeshift one. I trust holbrook has a plan, just wish I could see what he's thinking here.
I think Peats has definitely improved but I still don’t think he’s what we need going forward. Relatively average service and no running threat whatsoever. Defensive workhorse no doubt and he’s efficient at doing that but lacks the creativity or offensive tools and is largely predictable.
I don’t think Mbye has any business being a 9 but he’s a quality 6 that is adequate at 1 and capable at 3 or 4. Is he better value than a combined Peachey and Tyrone Roberts? Yes I think so. But having both him and Peachey on the roster seems like a waste, both mid-range salaries and one will almost certainly not be in the 17 each week which is a waste. If we offload Peachey then Mbye becomes much more appealing at 50% of his current wage.
Still think we need to prioritise a specialist hooker as a few others have said.
This is my thoughts as well mate. I’m actually a big fan of Peats as well. His passing have improved and he is starting to take the line on again. Both those points deteriorated under Brennan while he focused on prioritising Rein in that position.
Mbye is not a hooker. He can fill in when injuries happen but he is nowhere near Peats level imo. My preference is to develop a younger hooker behind Peats unless we can secure Smith, Smith or Grant.
Based on the last two weeks I'd agree with you but I worry that Peats is playing well now that contract renewal time is near. My fear is that we retain him and he goes back to going through the motions as previously. Against that, I'd like to see how he goes with a much improved pack.
I'm so so on Mbye. As others have said, he never has reached the heights that were expected of him. However, I'm prepared to back the coach on this one.
It’s easy to get seduced by out of contract form
Don’t
Now 10 Drongoe players are under police investigation for breaking Covid 19 rules. The enjoyment of seeing this club being nailed keeps on coming
Yeah I do think he was going through the motions on the field and that included the early part of this year. Otherwise why would have Holbrook dropped him? I agree with you that the last couple of weeks he has played like a bloke you would keep and perhaps he is improving along with the entire team as Holbrook stamps his mark. Just worries me about the previous season or two.
I'll back the coach on what he does with Peats as he sees him all the time and would know how he has responded to conversations that they would have had. If he stays it should be nowhere near the money he is on now.
