Do we know if we even made him an offer? The club is looking to move forward and he is a big gamble medically. There are just so many places in a roster.

I don't think so lol. People in here jumping to conclusions too quickly without knowing the full story.

Like most, disappointed to see James going but we can't keep them all.

He was off contract and if we tried to keep him may have meant we miss out on someone else.

A ball playing lock like Asiata as rumoured is exactly what we need and will take further pressure off Fogarty and Taylor.

I think resigning Proctor to a favourable 2 year deal is needed from an experience point of view.

    A pack of

    Asiata
    Fifita
    Proctor
    Fotuaika
    Fa'asuamaleaui

    With a rotation of-

    Peachey
    EseEse
Joliffe (who I really like the look of)

Still have middles on contract next year-

    Lisone
    Wallace
    Whitbread

    For edge backrowers-

Cartwright is still on contract unfortunately
Another year of Fermor and Farmer developing to take over from Proctor

Hasn't even accounted for what happens with re-signing Hipgrave.

    Options a-plenty.

^^^^ your last line “options a-plenty” made me shudder. In a bad way. I’ve heard that tune before.

I feel sorry for james. He has stuck with the club through some pretty heavy times and he deserved to be a one club player. Its bad luck that he's leaving when things are looking to improve. I would be targeting Brandon Smith now. I'd be driving up the sunshine co apart and turning it on if I was Mal.

Why do we think we have money for next year anymore? I think we will be waiting till 2022 for a better 9 or mid range player.

Still need to extend Jolliffee too don’t we?

    Tend to agree.

A bit of a concern with DF as well if he can't manage his weight over time. Way too much money spent on someone with limited games behind him. Big gamble from the club..

I'm not saying we have money or even if Smith is off contract, but start sewing the seeds early I say.

I'm going to throw it out there that we don't sign Fifita without mals influence.

Supposedly Tesi Niu's dad in a massive Bronco's supporter group. I am going to take it as a positive that Dave's recruitment could lead to future signings and possibly even the fact that we got off the hook missing out on Tesi as considering he just re-signed it doesn't send a great message. Make of it what you will. edit: Obviously Tesi may not know about this so pretty poor form from his Dad if so.

I won’t believe that James is leaving until I see some quotes from at least 1 Titans representative, whether it be an official or a player. James to me is loyal, and the only way I can see him leaving is if the club said look elsewhere as we have nothing for you. I can’t see the club doing that. I don’t know what minimum wage is in footy but perhaps that was all he was offered.

Holy **** can this week get any better? Boyd and Cartwright both GONE.

    https://twitter.com/travismeyn/statu...67161123758085

Other @GCTitans news - Shannon Boyd will be released from his contract this week after reaching a settlement with the club.

    https://www.couriermail.com.au/sport...33ec9aebc91700

Maligned Titans forward Bryce Cartwright is on the verge of quitting the Gold Coast club as he weighs up his future in the NRL.

News Corp can reveal Cartwright is seeking a release from his contract at the Titans to return to Sydney for personal reasons.

Cartwright was a notable omission from the Titans team for last week’s loss to Melbourne and will not face his former club Penrith on Sunday afternoon at Cbus Super Stadium.

It is understood Cartwright has returned to Sydney with his family and may have played his last game for the Titans.

The Titans will also this week finalise a release for $2.4 million flop Shannon Boyd to leave the club.

Boyd has only made one NRL appearance this year and is planning to retire and work in a family business.

The departures of Boyd and possibly Cartwright, along with captain Ryan James’ move to Canberra next year, has freed up significant salary cap space for the Titans.

That allowed the club to secure the signature of boom Broncos forward David Fifita on Saturday on a three-year contract worth $3.5 million.

Cartwright was released by the Panthers to join the Titans in 2018 under former coach Garth Brennan, who was an assistant at Penrith and held a close bond with Cartwright.

He has failed to find any genuine consistent form in 43 games for the Gold Coast and is likely to depart immediately despite being contracted until the end of the 2021 season.

Cartwright, 25, burst onto the NRL scene in 2014 and was talked about as a potential NSW Origin star.

But his defensive efforts have regularly been criticised and it is believed his love for the game has waned in recent years.

Cartwright told News Corp a fortnight ago, in the lead-up to his final game, that he wondered how much longer he could play on for.

“I do worry about how much longer I can keep going,” he said.

“I had a meniscus tear when I was 15 and the surgeon scraped out all the cartilage. Then two years ago, I did the meniscus in my other knee. Since then, it’s been bone-on-bone.

“The critics don’t see what you go through. Two weeks ago, I had to get my knees drained. I had 100ml of fluid taken out. My knees swell up and I have to get it drained all the time. That’s the price some players pay in this game.

“We get paid good money, but it’s not an easy ride.

“It’s hard mentally on me at times. But I always believe in never giving up. I will battle as long as I can until I retire.

“What keeps me going is the feeling I haven’t reached my best.

“I do get disappointed at my inconsistency and I want to get back to playing the football I know I can. I want to repay the Titans for giving me a chance after I left Penrith.”

Good we are slowly getting rid of some of the troubles we have had in the past and signing some good in form players

It's really only Peachey left from the Brennan signings, and I actually don't mind him. Cut out the stupid lazy swinging arms and he's a pretty good bench lock.

Can’t believe this, Christmas in July must really exist!

So Cartwright, Peats and Boyd out with Fifita, Ese’ese, Asiata and ??? in.

Hopefully we keep making right decisions with all of this free cash and don’t go wasting it all like we did last time that we had a “war chest”.

Some hard nosed business decisions being made here. Sentiment doesn't win any premierships.
Ryan James, a club favourite, takes a chunk of salary cap, seen as a risk going forward.
Shannon Boyd, no longer suits the modern game.
Bryce Cartwright, out of favour and not seen as a piece of the jigsaw needed for success.
Every other player obviously on notice.
Every player who wears a Titans jersey has my respect, but now I see the Holbrook masterplan unfolding.
Unlikely to make the finals this year, so lets wipe the slate as clean as we can.
WOW!!! I can only wonder who else has had the tap on the shoulder.
