Well I am unaware of many recent coaching appointments where the coach hasn't appointed his support staff.

Apparently it's what Holbrook did when he took over at St Hellen's. Just carried on with the same staff that were there.

He must be. He would be brilliant. Although not sure he’d want to move and I heard whispers he may end up as an assistant at the Dragons

Yep I'm happy with Dymock. He's a defence guru isn't he?

As a valued part of the Titans family, we are pleased to announce to our Members and corporate partners that former international and current Cronulla Sharks Assistant Coach Jim Dymock will be joining the Gold Coast as Senior Assistant Coach for at least the next two seasons.

As you would know, Jim is very highly regarded within the NRL, and his acquisition is a major coup for the Titans.

Jim will join incoming Titans Head Coach Justin Holbrook at the Gold Coast in November to begin a new era for the Club.

Jim’s arrival will be a reunion of sorts for the former Australian and Tongan international, who enjoys a long relationship with Justin from their time together at the Canterbury Bulldogs, and is also a former Parramatta teammate of Titans Assistant Coach, Luke Burt.

Jim was one of the most celebrated players of his era as a skilful five-eighth or lock in a 14-year career for Western Suburbs, Canterbury, Parramatta and the London Broncos.

A Clive Churchill Medal winner as man of the match in Canterbury’s epic 1995 grand final win over Manly, Jim played six Tests for the Kangaroos, a further two Tests for Tonga, and six State of Origin matches for NSW between 1996 and 1998.

He was renowned for his skill and toughness in equal measure, with his never-say-die attitude the driving force behind the Bulldogs premiership in the year they became the first team to win the title from seventh on the ladder.

The three-time Dally M Lock of the Year has long been considered an NRL coach-in-waiting, and is lauded as a defensive specialist. Jim has twice acted as an interim NRL Head Coach at the Bulldogs and the Sharks, and is also a former Test coach of Tonga.

Jim is vastly experienced as an NRL Assistant Coach, having served his apprenticeship under Ricky Stuart at the Roosters and Sharks, Des Hasler at Canterbury, and Shane Flanagan and John Morris at Cronulla.

Titans Chief Executive Steve Mitchell said Jim’s excellent reputation as a player and coach made him the perfect fit for the Gold Coast’s future.

“In Jim Dymock, the Titans have picked up a Senior Assistant Coach who is widely respected across the NRL for the attributes that he builds into the teams he is involved with,” Mitchell said.

“He has done a long coaching apprenticeship, and knows the NRL inside and out. He has a long association with Justin Holbrook stretching back many years, based on mutual respect for each other’s abilities and their outstanding qualities as human beings.

“Like Justin, Jim gets the best out of his players because of the respect he shows to them, and the respect he commands in return with his rugby league knowledge and fabulous pedigree in the game.

“Jim has been there and done it all as a player, and the incredible toughness, resilience and skill that were hallmarks of his career as a player are also the attributes that he builds into the teams he coaches.

“Everyone at the Gold Coast Titans is extremely excited to have Jim onboard, and working closely with Justin to have the Titans reach their full potential.”

We hope you will join us in welcoming Jim to the Titans family.

What's wrong with Burt? Do we have any evidence that he's no good? I thought he was basically the apprentice assistant coach, so he wouldn't have been responsible for much of what we saw this season.

No evidence that he’s bad but not much to suggest he’d be good either. Spent his whole career on the wing which really doesn’t require much footy IQ, and I don’t think he really has any other coaching experience
