Tyrone Roberts and Ash Taylor ruled out of Gold Coast Titans’ match against Cronulla Sharks

GOLD Coast’s hopes of rebounding from Sunday night’s horror show against Canberra have already been dented.
Titans players are hoping for a big effort against Cronulla at Shark Park this Saturday to prove their 21-0 loss to the Raiders was a mere blip on the radar.
However, they will have to do so without both of their first-choice halves.

The Titans have confirmed five-eighth Tyrone Roberts will miss two to three weeks with the achilles strain that forced him off Cbus Super Stadium just 12 minutes into his return to the NRL from the English Super League.
Ash Taylor too will be forced to sit on the sidelines again due to a quad complaint.
The pair’s absence has brought Ryley Jacks firmly into calculations for a Titans debut, having spent the past two weeks playing for Tweed in the Intrust Super Cup.
Alternatively, Tyrone Peachey and AJ Brimson could again combine in the halves as they did for much of the Raiders clash – but there is a feeling that Jacks could provide more direction for the side’s attack.

Queensland Maroons prop Jarrod Wallace says Gold Coast Titans must quickly lift their NRL level
https://www.goldcoastbulletin.com.au/
GOLD Coast prop Jarrod Wallace has slammed his side’s Round 1 performance as “unacceptable” and has called for a far better display against the Sharks this Saturday night.
After a pre-season full of hope, the Titans were badly beaten 21-0 by Canberra in wet conditions at Cbus Super Stadium on Sunday night.
Players reacted with resounding accountability, with “unacceptable” proving Wallace’s buzz word in an interview with the Bulletin.
“It was disappointing,” was the five-time Maroons prop’s blunt assessment.
“We obviously wanted to come out and put in a good Round 1 performance and we didn’t do that. We gave them too much ball and with a side like that who are so big and mobile, the momentum that they can build obviously shows why they ended up putting (21) points on us.
“I thought our defence was really strong in first contact and things like that but when you have got to do tackle after tackle after tackle, it’s just never going to work.
“We would finally get the ball back after working hard and then drop it or throw some stupid offload. It’s just unacceptable.”
Wallace said it will be important to respond swiftly in the form of a better showing at Shark Park.
“The positive thing is that it is only Round 1 so we have got to build on that but you don’t want to be going too far (without getting it together),” he said.
“We want to make sure next week we go back to the drawing board … it was just unacceptable for the kind of team thing that we are trying to build here.”

Fellow forward Jai Arrow urged fans to keep the faith.
“Don’t panic. It’s a long season and things can happen,” he said.
“We’ll be better, I can guarantee that. Obviously it’s time to stop talking now and go put the talk into actions.”

You’ve just got to wonder if Roberts hadn’t got tangled in that *****-slapping fracas he wouldn’t have the injury.
Four reasons to escape to Queensland: Sun, Surf, Sand & the Titans.
Big ask this week. Johnson can usually make a mockery of our defense. Shame we won't be at full strength so hopefully we can fly under the radar and surprise a few.
I’m hoping Johnson has one of his many cold games.
Also would want to see Jacks in the halves with AJ.
Ash looking likely for round 3, does anyone know ?
Huge opportunity for Riley jacks, Canberra game might've gone abit different if we had his direction and kicking game out there. I hope he proves to be the controlling half that we need to steer the ship and let ash or Tyrone or aj play off him
They're saying Tyrone is gone for possibly at least a month with a injury to his Achilles tendon.
I’d love to see Brimson at FB, Gordon wing, Lee Centre, Peachey 5/8, Jacks at Half. Copley dropped, Rein on bench but no Peats at Lock. Just share the hooking duties. There’s an argument to recall Don for Sami too. I’d give him one more chance.
James didn’t play that much of the game at 2nd row, once Cartwright came on James went to prop and then came off for a rest and returned at prop. Don’t like that strategy, James and Proctor should play the 80mins, Cartwright when he comes on should play at Lock. Add some creativity to the middle of the field once there’s fatigue.
I also wonder if Mo should start the game with JWall benched purely on form. JWall has been all talk for quite a while now.
So my team would be
AJ, Gordon, Lee, Kelly, Sami, Peach, Jacks
Mo, Peats, Boyd, James, Proctor, Arrow
King, JWall, Cartwright (all As middles), Rein

In other changes to last week’s team, Anthony Don returns to the Titans starting side as a reward for his excellent form for Burleigh Bears in the Intrust Super Cup last weekend.
Don replaces Phillip Sami, who moves back to the interchange bench against the Sharks.
Centre Dale Copley drops out of the 17 with a recurrence of the calf complaint that hampered his pre-season.

I just don't get Sami on the bench and someone needs to pull Wallace's head out of his a$$, way to many stupid penalties.
Good to see the Don back as I think we missed his try scoring prowess last week, he can find the line nine times out of ten. Also good to see Lee keep his spot. As much as I love Sami, Lee gives us more post contact metres and starts our sets off with good kick returns. Not agreeing with Sami on the interchange though as I hate backs off the bench. Hopefully Rein is in the 14 jersey with team list updates later in the week as we missed his spark and speed around the ruck.
Great to see Jacks get a run too as he will add the control and kicking game that we desperately missed last week. He can run the side while AJ shows his running game (will be less stress on him as last week he was trying to be the conductor which doesn't suit him).
Cronulla will be tough to beat but we will be a better side in the dry weather, with an actual half (praying he doesn't go down 10 minutes in..) and hopefully a better effort with better discipline.
