    Three-time Premiership prop joins Dolphins
    https://dolphinsnrl.com.au/

The Dolphins have pulled off a huge recruitment coup by enticing Melbourne’s three-time premiership-winning front rower Jesse Bromwich to the club.

The Kiwi international has agreed to a two-year deal to be one of the Dolphins’ foundation players when they enter the competition in 2023.

Bromwich, who will join current Storm teammate Felise Kaufusi on the Dolphins’ roster, is certain to be one of the new squad’s leaders when they enter the competition in 2023.

He is currently co-captain of the 2021 minor premiers and has also captained his country of birth, New Zealand.

Dolphins’ chief executive Terry Reader said Bromwich’s pedigree in the NRL made him the perfect recruit for the new franchise.

“In building a squad from scratch, we have always been focussed on ensuring we add some real experience to the group we will assemble for the 2023 NRL season,” said Reader.

“Jesse will bring a host of good qualities to the Dolphins’ inaugural roster, not the least of which will be his exposure at the highest levels of rugby league.

“He has been one of the shining lights of the strong Storm system for the last decade so will bring a tremendous level of professionalism with him.

“Jesse has been a part of three NRL grand final victories and has played 29 Tests for New Zealand, so we know he is a winner.

“He comes from a club that has always been big on creating standards and this will be a new and exciting opportunity for Jesse to create and set a standard for future Dolphins players.”

Bromwich has exhibited amazing durability in 272 NRL games for the Storm, including playing in 24 matches in 2021.

He has also been a part of two World Club Challenge victories over English Super League teams and represented both the NRL and Maori All Stars teams.

Bromwich was crowned the Dally M Prop of the Year in 2016.

He will join the Dolphins franchise at their Queensland base when the 2023 NRL pre-season gets underway in November.

Dolphins set to poach Souths fan favourite Mark Nicholls on multi-year deal: Transfer Whispers
    https://www.foxsports.com.au/nrl/

The Dolphins have reportedly signed Rabbitohs fan favourite Mark Nicholls on a two-year deal from 2023.

Wayne Bennett has landed a sixth signature ahead of the expansion club’s inaugural season in 2023, according to multiple reports.

The 32-year-old has played 89 NRL games during stints at the Raiders, Storm and Souths.

Nicholls has played the past three seasons at the Rabbitohs under Bennett who made him captain for the final regular season game of 2021.

Bennett vowed not to poach any of the Rabbitohs’ squad when he left the club following the 2021 grand final.

However, the club are set to release Nicholls from the final year of his current deal so he can rejoin Bennett for the 2023 season.

The development comes after the Dolphins announced the signing of Storm skipper Jesse Bromwich on Friday.

Bromwich, who has also captained New Zealand, will join the Dolphins on a two-year deal from their inaugural season in 2023.

The prop will turn 35 halfway through the final year of his contract.

Bromwich has played all of 272 NRL games at the Storm and will be a huge chance of becoming the Dolphins first captain.

The Kiwi is the fifth player to join the Dolphins since they were announced as the NRL’s 17th team last October.

Bromwich will join Storm teammate Felise Kaufusi, Eels forward Ray Stone, Broncos flyer Jamayne Isaako and young gun Valynce Te Whare.

With all of these signings from the Storm, I think we can enjoy a nice Storm v Dolphins rivalry. Especially when throwing in territory on the Sunshine Coast.

    Dolphins release their Foundation Memberships.

    https://am.ticketmaster.com/dolphinsnrl/

    - Their noon launch didn't go so well with the website screwing up until 4pm
    - They didn't provide any photos of merchandise.
    - No sound on the video on this page is weird.
    - While an email itemisies the inclusions, the website does not. You click on the Membership name and it takes you to the Cart.
    - They call their premium/corporate? membership "The Glass House". I dont know what that means. Does it mean you are in a booth? Is it supposed to have some connection with the Glasshouse mountains on the Sunshine Coast? I immediately just though of "Those in glass houses..." It's $3,000 BTW.

    Real **** show.

NSW team set to miss out as NRL guarantees Dolphins a Magic Round spot in 2023
    Adam Pengilly
    https://www.smh.com.au/

The NRL has guaranteed the Dolphins will be included in Magic Round during their inaugural season, giving the competition’s newest franchise a game on the showpiece weekend next year.

On the eve of this year’s three-day extravaganza - where all 16 teams will converge on Suncorp Stadium for eight games - the NRL has already discussed how it will slate fixtures for Magic Round with an odd number of teams when the Dolphins enter the fray.

According to sources familiar with the situation, the NRL is already planning on having Wayne Bennett’s fledgling franchise build a support base during Magic Round in Brisbane.

While they are yet to land a marquee signing, the NRL has identified Magic Round as a crucial weekend to showcase the Dolphins in their home town as they build a squad capable of challenging the Broncos and emerging as a finals force.

All four Queensland clubs - including the Broncos, Titans and Cowboys - will be scheduled to play during Magic Round next year, leaving the squeeze to most likely affect a NSW-based club.

The NRL is poised to offer each of the eight teams who play a home game during Magic Round the first choice on whether they would like to take up the offer in 2023. Each club has been paid $250,000 to take a home match to Brisbane for Magic Round.
The Bulldogs, Sea Eagles, Warriors, Titans, Storm, Sharks, Roosters and Tigers will all host matches at Suncorp Stadium this year, as they did in 2021. Given the commercial benefits, nearly all would be expected to do the same again in 2023.

It would mean one of the Knights, Rabbitohs, Dragons, Panthers, Raiders and Eels would be in line to miss out playing at Magic Round next year.

Each away team is still paid a small fee for being part of Magic Round.

But much of the focus will be on Bennett’s Dolphins, who have amassed an experienced forward pack including Melbourne trio Felise Kaufusi, Jesse Bromwich, Kenny Bromwich, South Sydney’s Mark Nicholls and Parramatta’s Ray Stone.

The NRL will be dealing with a complex draw next season in which each team will be scheduled for two byes across the course of a 26-round regular season, with clubs to have their rest weekends spread out as evenly as possible throughout the year.

State of Origin will revert to its traditional Wednesday format for all three matches, meaning the standalone representative round has been scrapped.

This year’s second Origin match at Perth’s Optus Stadium will be the last time Origin is played on a Sunday night, while the mid-season window for the Test matches involving New Zealand and the Pacific Nations will also close.

The Bulldogs will play the Knights in the opening match of Magic Round this year before the Sea Eagles host the Broncos in the second match of the Friday doubleheader. A blockbuster between premiers Penrith and Melbourne will be the headline match of the weekend.

Don't be alarmed but I just signed up for a Dolphins Membership. In support of expansion, QLD rugby league, BRL representation and anti Bronco attitudes. I also used to work at the Dolphins and I am a north Brisbane boy.

But it isn't a matter of a 2nd team. It's Titans all the way. It is also fascinating to see a new NRL club being built.

I also sign up for Memberships for the Warriors, London Broncos and many others. I'd love to get a TO13 membership but their website is in French.

Wayne Bennett circling Sam Burgess and St Helens coach Kristian Woolf for coaching roles
    https://www.couriermail.com.au/sport...de4579728e64f8

The Dolphins have come under fire for failing to land a marquee recruit but one controversial legend is in the frame to join Wayne Bennett’s team of assistants for the club’s debut season.

    Peter Badel

Sam Burgess is set to reunite with Wayne Bennett at the Dolphins as the super coach ramps-up plans to lure the South Sydney legend and St Helens mentor Kristian Woolf to Redcliffe.

News Corp can reveal Bennett is in negotiations with both Burgess and Woolf, with the Dolphins foundation coach confirming the pair are on his hit list to join his team of assistants for the entry of the NRL’s new franchise next season.

Bennett has been tight-lipped about the composition of his coaching unit, but if the 72-year-old gets his way, England forward great Burgess will be at the Dolphins in 2023.

It is understood Burgess is in the advanced stage of talks with Bennett.

The 33-year-old wants to be part of Bennett’s coaching brigade, but he has great respect for Souths owner Russell Crowe and wants the blessing of the Hollywood icon before his move to the Dolphins is formalised.

Bennett is seeking at least two assistants, one of whom would be groomed to eventually succeed the code’s greatest coach at the Dolphins.

Highly-regarded Cameron Ciraldo is also on Bennett’s radar, but with the Penrith assistant being linked to head-coaching roles at the Wests Tigers and Canterbury, Woolf shapes as a frontrunner to join Burgess at the Dolphins.

Speaking for the first time about plans for his coaching platoon, Bennett said he had yet to finalise his assistants, but confirmed Burgess and Woolf are in the frame to help mastermind the Dolphins’ maiden season.

“I’m not sure if Sam will come on board but he is a guy I am interested in, yes,” Bennett said. “Sam has some ties to Souths but I’ve had some chats with Sam about coming to the Dolphins and we’ll see what happens.”

The signing of Burgess would be a major — yet controversial — coup for the Dolphins.

In March, the Rabbitohs premiership hero was fined $30,000 by the NRL and suspended from official Souths duties for 12 weeks for multiple breaches during his playing days, including illicit drug use.

The veteran of 182 NRL games retired in 2019 due to a chronic shoulder injury and endured the fallout of a much-publicised split with his former wife.

But amid the drama, former Souths coach Bennett has been one of Burgess’ staunchest allies.

The British Test luminary played his final season under Bennett at Redfern and the super coach says few players inspired teammates like Burgess, who famously played with a fractured cheekbone for 79 minutes of the 2014 grand final to lead Souths to premiership glory.

Burgess is hugely respected by current NRL players and would be an asset at the negotiating table as the Dolphins build their roster for 2023 and beyond.

It is understood Burgess is keen to eventually become a head coach and sees an apprenticeship under Bennett as the perfect stepping stone to a more senior NRL appointment.

“I have a great rapport with Sam,” Bennett said.

“He is as good a player as I’ve ever coached and as good a person as I’ve ever met.

“If you meet Sam Burgess, you can’t help but like him. He is a genuine guy.”

Bennett has held preliminary discussions with St Helens coach Woolf, who is also in charge of the Tonga national team.
The pair appear to have struck a bond, with Woolf recently reaching out to Bennett, asking him to help Tonga in an advisory role for this month‘s Test against New Zealand.

Woolf cannot coach Tonga for the Kiwis clash due to his English commitments and Bennett has agreed to a cameo role assisting caretaker Dean Young.

It is believed Bennett’s preferred succession plan is for a Queenslander to replace him as the Dolphins’ second coach. Woolf, who hails from Mt Isa, ticks that box.

The 46-year-old has also had success, winning two premierships and a Challenge Cup at St Helens and taking Tonga to the 2017 World Cup semi-finals.

The Warriors have Woolf on their radar following the departure of Nathan Brown, but the Tonga coach may prefer life as Bennett’s right-hand man back home on Queensland soil.

“I would be interested in Kristian, plus a couple of others,” Bennett said.

“I’m not sure what will play out. I imagine there are a few clubs interested in Kristian, he is a good young coach and yes, he is one of about four guys we are interested in.

“There is so much to be sorted out for us, I won’t be jumping at shadows.

“It’s not an urgent time frame yet (finalising his assistant), we’re still a while away from starting up so I can take my time. We know who the head coach is. I will get my ducks in order first and then I will see what our succession plan is.”
