Default KPHL pay big bucks to sponsor PNG Hunters

KPHL Becomes Gold Sponsor For Hunters With K3m

One of the biggest sponsorships in rugby league history just unfolded moments ago as Kumul Petroleum Holding came on board the sponsorship wagon with a huge K3 million sponsorship announcement for the PNG Hunters rugby league team.

Under the three year deal, KPHL becomes the gold sponsor of the reigning Queensland Intrust Cup champion.

Managing Director Wapu Sonk said KPHL is proud to support the Hunters team and is confident that the team will continue to promote good sportsmanship and better family values in PNG.

“KPHL’s vision is to create value and opportunity for PNG and its people by becoming a major national oil and gas corporation. To the end, we see the opportunity to support Hunters where it goes a long way to meaningfully expose PNG’s pool of rugby league talent to the world,” Sonk said.

KPHL is also involved in rugby league through the sponsorship of the Kroton Hela Wigmen’s participation in the PNGNRL Digicel Cup.

The sponsorship of KPHL will see their logo on the Hunter’s sleeve of their playing jersey this year.

The Hunters' business model is interesting indeed when you consider they pay all their own costs and the travel costs of the visiting teams ... the QRL for all their perceived benevolence have never done them any favours either in their current form or the previous Vipers who were forced to go under after the QRL refused to assist them once the Stupid League War abated. The previous model the QRL paid the team visiting Port Moresby's airfares only. The QRL excuse has always been that PNG is a separate country and that's fine but the involvement of the PNG teams have more than doubled home game attendances. The QRL's failure to recognise PNG's contribution to rugby league in Queensland is very poor. The board room jokes about fuzzy wuzzies in the early days was terribly degrading.
Four reasons to escape to Queensland: Sun, Surf, Sand & the Titans.

I strongly agree and I had hope the days of making teams cover all cost was decades behind us. ARL pulled the same rot with the Western Reds.

Our games leaders must spread the cost of ventures that bring mutual benefit and also fulfill our duty to expand the game.
