Just watching Coach Brennan on NRL 360.
Somebody has given him a terrible haircut.
There are plenty of good Barbers and Hairdressers on the Coast Coach.
    Give another joint a try.

Gee Bodsie, that's a big comedown from trying to get the trainers sacked. If that's all we have to complain about then we're in pretty good shape

nothing to get overly excited back but looks like we should have alot of our injured players back in the next week so hopefully some strong QCUP performances over the next few weeks to add a bit of extra competition for our 17. Id like to see lee or elliot put some pressure on copley and would be also to see Simpkins strong middle of the ruck defence back soon.

That's a bit soft from Peats (jk). Lodge is playing this week with supposedly the same injury. Jab jab.

NRL announces historic Touch football premiership competition

    Wed 18 Apr 2018, 11:15 AM
Touch football will make an historic leap in 2018 with the announcement of an NRL premiership competition where games will be played as curtain-raisers before first grade fixtures from next month.

The six-team competition will see three NSW-based and three Queensland NRL clubs draw on touch football's best male and female players for the inaugural premiership, starting in round 11 on May 18.

Two 30-minute touch games – men's and women's – will lead into relevant NRL matches, with broadcast partner Fox Sports to televise the contests through a mix of live and delayed coverage.

The competition will last for seven rounds in total, with Touch Football Australia CEO Steve Mitchell lauding the chance to showcase touch football to a wider audience in the same year the sport celebrates its 50th anniversary.

NRL counterpart Todd Greenberg declared the new competition the "first step in a much bigger journey that we can make", with Mitchell hoping the closer NRL association could one day lead touch football to its own professional competition.

"This is a diversification piece, similar to cricket where you've got multiple formats of the game… this reaches a new community, a different demographic, it's short-form and a really exciting piece for the rugby league family," Mitchell said on Wednesday.

"(The competition will be) absolutely amateur at first, and that will probably be the case for the first couple of seasons.

"But the more we can build the more we can build that, the more profile we can give it, the more people we can get involved the more commercially attractive it becomes.

"We'd love to be in a position where we can do something semi-professional with our athletes."

Participating NRL clubs will be unveiled over the next month, with each outfit fielding a men's and women's side in separate competitions.

It's understood the governing bodies and not players will be footing the bill when it comes to travel and playing expenses.

Boasting 613,000 participants, touch football has proven a breeding ground for some of the NRL's brightest talent, with the likes of Benji Marshall, Kalyn Ponga, Valentine Holmes and Shaun Johnson all honing their skills in the non-contact sport before graduating to league.

"The quality of what you'll see on the field, the quality of the product of touch football is fantastic," Greenberg said.

"But more than that it's so inclusive because it's men and women playing so I expect (the new competition) to be an unbelievably strong success."

^^^^ I’ve put this in here because this is BAD for my well being that the curtain raiser will be a FRIGGIN GAME OF TOUCH!!!!

I'm all for touch going from strength to strength and coming under our banner. But come on, we want the 13 player game.

    Titans rake injured
    http://www.couriermail.com.au

GOLD Coast will be without NSW State of Origin hooker Nathan Peats for up to six weeks with fractured ribs.

Peats’ chances of retaining his Blues spot appear over with the injury, suffered in Sunday’s 35-12 loss to Penrith at Panthers Stadium, set to sideline him for at least a month.

He was already struggling to hold on to his place in Brad Fittler’s Origin side with Cameron McInnes, Api Koroisau and Damien Cook putting forward strong cases this season.

Titans coach Garth Brennan said yesterday he would leave it in the hands of Peats to decide when he was ready to return.
“Hopefully, we get him back earlier than that,’’ Brennan said. ‘‘It’s more a pain threshold thing now so Peatsy is a fairly fierce competitor.

“He felt like he let the team down coming off so early, especially being captain on the weekend, but he’ll get himself right and be back better than ever.”

The worst-case scenario is Peats will not return before Fittler selects his side for the June 6 Origin series opener.

Mitch Rein has been named to replace Peats in the No.9 jersey for the Titans’ trip to Townsville to battle a North Queensland team coming off five-straight defeats.

Brennan yesterday criticised referees over an incident involving Rein in their loss to the Panthers.

He was furious referees did not take the advice of experienced Gold Coast trainer Craig Catterick and stop play when Rein was being assessed for a suspected neck injury.

Titans centre Dale Copley will miss at least three weeks with a hamstring injury.

Phillip Sami has been named in the centres in place of Copley, while Tyronne Roberts-Davis will have his first start of the season after being selected in the No.5 jersey.

Forwards Morgan Boyle (concussion) and Jai Arrow (back) have been cleared after failing to see out the defeat to the Panthers.

Gold Coast lock Jai Arrow’s Origin hopes buoyed by injury diagnosis
    Peter Badel, The Courier-Mail

JAI Arrow’s hopes of a Queensland Origin debut remain intact after the ironman lock was today cleared of a serious injury in a major boost for the Titans and Maroons.

Arrow shed tears in the dressing sheds and was taken to hospital after copping a heavy knock to his ribs against Canberra on Saturday night, fuelling fears he could face an extended period on the sidelines.

But scans at Canberra hospital ruled out broken ribs or a collapsed lung, with the Titans’ tackling machine hoping to be fit for Saturday’s clash against the Storm in the Suncorp Stadium double-header.

“In basic terms, a rib contusion is the shifting of the rib cage from its normal position, causing distress to the organs around it,” the Titans said in a statement on Sunday.

“Arrow went to hospital for all the necessary tests and was cleared of any internal damage.

“The Burleigh junior will be monitored through the week with a decision on his availability to come closer to game day.”

Arrow, Gold Coast’s best player this year, has battled back spasms for the past three weeks and Titans coach Garth Brennan said the fresh injury setback was not as serious as first thought.

“The doctors thought he had a possible collapsed lung but the scans are clear,” Brennan said.

“He flew home with the team and will have some follow-up (medical checks) but it’s suspected bruised ribs.

“If it turns out to be just bruised ribs then he’s a big chance of playing (against the Storm).”

The development is not only positive news for the Titans but also Queensland, whose back-row stocks have been decimated by injuries to Broncos duo Matt Gillett (neck) and Josh McGuire (ankle).

The 22-year-old Arrow is tipped to make his Origin debut off the bench in the series opener against NSW at the MCG on June 6. The former Bronco may yet be pitchforked into the starting side in the No.13 jumper if McGuire fails to recover in time.

The Titans are sweating on Arrow being cleared to face premiers Melbourne after the Coast’s defence was ripped apart by the Raiders in his 62-minute absence at GIO Stadium.

“We were probably a little bit under the pump with losing two of our middles in Arrow and (Jarrod) Wallace,” Brennan said.

“Our middle was under strain. There were some tries that were unacceptable but the injuries didn’t help.

“We made some errors (against Canberra) that as coach I can’t accept. Players have to take some accountability for it.”
