I agree we need a much higher profile in the media. First we need to bring some of our former heroes in like Rogers, Bailey and Prince. I particularly like Bailey because I think he represented the club character I wanted.

Then, we as fans need to have a higher profile. But it's hard when the club's results have been dire. 4 wins and 20 loses. I guess the turn around of course has to come from the field but when that comes more dedicated fans have to try and be heard. That is why I appreciate people posting about what is said in 360 and radio stations.

Was great to hear V’Landys say today that every NSW and QLD Club is 100% safe with their brand and none will be relocated. Any new club he said will be the result of expansion.

Clean Air for all of us.

Great news. Tears for all the white ant journos writing lazy articles about us.

To me it is actually a bigger statement than it seems. It means there won't be a strategy of applying the blowtorch and threatening relocation to clubs.

NRL.com understands their 2018 football department expenditure amounted to under $6 million outside of player salaries, around half what the biggest spending clubs outlaid, with only the Titans spending less.
Hasler's predecessor Trent Barrett made plain the strain that those pressures caused in his ugly exit from the club.
In 2020 season the NRL's $5.93 million cap on football departments will come into effect, with clubs to pay a 37.5% tax should they spend over that figure on football staff, training camps and facilities.

This is a quote from NRL.com interviewing Steve Humphreys the new CEO at Manly. I posted it for the reference to the Titans and the info about the cap rule change for 2020.

So will this bring other clubs back to the field? Or will they just pay to play?

I feel that we constantly are adding layers of admin to the sport but never wind anything back. It’s symptomatic in our society and we are becoming slaves to officialdom.

Gold Coast boutique stadium: Retractable roof stadium planned for Gold Coast site

THE State Government is in talks with an international music promoter to build a boutique stadium on the Gold Coast.

And Mayor Tom Tate wants it finished within two years and come with a retractable roof and facilities to attract the lucrative esports market.

Tourism Minster Kate Jones told the Bulletin she had met with Live Nation about making the 10,000-seat stadium a reality.

“I can confirm that the State Government has met with Live Nation several times about their plans to scope out a location for a new music venue on the Gold Coast,” Ms Jones told the Bulletin.

“We are working with council to support Live Nation. It’s an exciting time for the Gold Coast.”

Live Nation has expressed enthusiasm to partner with the State Government, saying there was enough demand in the city for live music, but there was nowhere sufficient to bring the acts.

    WHY HEADLINE ACTS OVERLOOK COAST

The stadium is expected to be a joint venture between the State Government and Gold Coast City Council. Cr Tate said the stadium could be managed by a private consortium similar to the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre in Broadbeach.

US-based entertainment giant Live Nation has brought headline acts such as U2, The Pixies, Rod Stewart and the Dave Matthews Band to Australia in the past year.

None of them played the Gold Coast because the city does not have a specialised music hub. Bigger stadiums such as Metricon Stadium at Carrara are considered unsuitable.

The Bulletin understands a shortlist of three sites has been drawn up for a boutique stadium. Two are on the existing light rail route and another located near its future extension.

Southport’s Owen Park and Miami’s Pizzey Park are considered frontrunners by industry insiders.

Cr Tate, who is currently in the US, refused to speculate about the location, saying prospective sites were “commercial in confidence.”

Cr Tate will tour a boutique stadium during his annual leave before putting it on council’s agenda if successfully re-elected in March.

He said the stadium would be a “multi-function” complex that would have capacity for between 8000-12,000 people.

He hoped it would be used to host musicians such as Maroon 5 and Pink, as well as attracting smaller games for the Gold Coast Titans and Gold Coast United, should it regain its status in the A-League.

Cr Tate said it would be designed with a retractable roof allowing for both sporting events, concerts, conferences and esports – the now-multibillion-dollar professional video game industry.

“The piece de resistance, which is the main motivation here is e-gaming. This is the one dearest to my heart,” he said.

“We are at the forefront of new and innovative ideas and this is a perfect time for us to have e-stadiums similar to those in New York, Los Angeles and Korea.

“It is already established, it’s a multibillion-dollar industry and it is an opportunity for the Gold Coast to get the latest technology.

“This is targeted towards the younger generation who are the ones with the disposable income and greater longevity. My kids loved Mortal Kombat when they were younger and they still love it.”

Interesting. You know the QLD Gov is also looking at developing an Olympic Stadium at Albion Park raceway. Then after the Olympics reduce capacity to 20-30k.

Hopefully the GC site is in a good location. I'm sure the Titans can and would make use of it in some capacity.

Why would the Titans make use of a Brisbane stadium. I for one would not bother going and it would dilute the Gold Coast identity

My second sentence is about the GC stadium proposal. I've amended my post to reflect this.

Gold Coast Titans co-owner Darryl Kelly was the victim of an elaborate pickpocket ploy which robbed him of the chance to attend last week’s Super Bowl.

Blindside can reveal Kelly was robbed outside Miami’s Hard Rock Stadium by expert thieves who pinched his $1400 ticket moments before he arrived at the gate.

Kelly and wife Joanne flew to America to attend the game alongside fellow Titans owners Brett and Rebecca Frizelle.

But the Kelly gang never made it into the stadium to watch the Kansas City Chiefs beat the San Francisco 49ers.

“I got my ticket pick-pocketed just before I got to the gate,” Kelly said. “A bloke bumped me and a woman behind me fell over as a distraction.

“I was going to help her and he nabbed my ticket. He took the ticket out of the lanyard. I didn’t notice until I got to the gate.”

Stadium staff were not interested in helping Kelly and police told him at least 36 tickets had been stolen in similar circumstances.

The tickets were being on-sold by the thieves for thousands of dollars.

Joanne was happy to give her husband her ticket, but he didn’t want to send her back to the hotel alone.

“There was a bloke there that wanted to buy a ticket so we sold it to him, hopped in a cab and went home. We watched the second half on the TV,” Kelly said.

    “That’s life. Worse things happen.”

The trip to the States wasn’t an entire disaster for the Titans owners, who headed to Nashville to tour the NFL’s Tennessee Titans.

“We went up to Tennessee and spent some time with the Titans having a look at their facilities,” Kelly said.

“Everything is bigger and better in America but we’re not that far behind. There is nothing wrong with our facility.

“It was a good trip but I didn’t get to go to the Super Bowl.”
