Crafty half backs are not easy to come by thus one player the Titans may consider is Hikurangi Stags (Northlands in NZ) half Charme Henry-Turner.

In seven Sam McKendry U17 matches this season he scored nine tries including four against the Takahiwai Warriors, doubles against the Otangarei Knights and Tautoro Titans and also scored in another game against the Tautoro Titans.

New Zealand’s Dargaville High School centre Lucas Payne is a talented 17 year old centre that people should note down for the future.

In the Northtec Adam Blair school boy competition the 17 year old centre finished the season strongly scoring eight tries and kicking two goals over the last three matches, including a hat trick against Okaihau College and doubles against Bream Bay College (the former school of Southport U18 Division One and Keebra Park student Terry-Jack Smart) and Whangarei Boys High School in the final.

Hooking prospect Klies Kaiarake plays for the Takahawai Warriors club in New Zealand’s Northlands region and in the Sam McKendry U17 competition had a 100% strike rate through is nine matches including a hat trick early in the season against the Hikurangi Stags and a double against the Otangarei Knights.

Another good prospect from an area that can be overlooked in New Zealand but should not be.

The Auckland based Papatoetoe U16 side may have missed out on playing in the Auckland U16 Grand Final but regardless the two centres in the side being Deijahnelle Vaha and Maanaima Amosa are two young players worth keeping an eye on.

Maanaima Amosa had a period during the season when he scored in five matches in a row, including in that span hat tricks in consequetive matches against the Mt Albert Lions and Manurewa Brothers. He also scored a double against the Mangere East Hawks and to round off the scoring in that stretch scored against the Otahuhu Leopards and Ellerslie Eagles.

Deijahnelle Vaha likewise was a regular try scorer including three straight matches with doubles with those being against the Mt Albert Lions, Manurewa Brothers and the Otahuhu Leopards.

The Otahuhu backline in the Auckland U16 Open competition is one filled with power, speed and skill and leading the pack at fullback Taialo Belford-Te Whiu and centre Devonntae Ta’Alili.

Taialo Belford-Te Whiu scored in each of the opening five rounds of the competition, with those matches in order against the Ellerslie Eagles, Mt Albert Lions (2), Northcote Tigers, Marist Saints and Waitemata Seagulls.

Over the course of the season Taialo Belford-Te Whiu also scored doubles against the Mangere East Hawks and Papatoetoe Panthers.

Devonntae Ta’Alili twice scored in four consequetive matches this season. The first occasion spanned the opening four rounds with the tries against Ellerslie Eagles (2), Mt Albert Lions, Northcote Tigers (2) and Marist Saints.

Later in the season he scored in four consequetive matches against the Mangere East Hawks, Ellerslie Eagles, Papatoetoe Panthers (2) and Manurewa Brothers.

Unfortunately he is signed with the Warriors for another year or so but a young second rower to keep notes on is Pakuranga rugby league’s Heneli Luani.

The Tongan youngster was a stand out in the Auckland U16 Open competition this year and has a bright future ahead of him.

One of the classiest fullbacks I have seen in a while is Tautoro Titans U15 fullback Te Tai Rawhiti Croft-Haenga. The young custodian dominated the Northlands (New Zealand) U15 competition this season scoring a staggering 13 tries and kicking 12 goals from just seven matches.

His 13 tries including scoring five against the Takahiwai Warriors (he kicked six goals in that match as well to finish with an individual points tally of 36) and hat tricks against the Horahora Broncos and Takahiwai Warriors.

The young man also played two matches in the U17 competition scoring two tries and also played two matches for his school’s Open First XIII side in the Northtec Adam Blair school boy competition.

Since his move over from Wellington in New Zealand (where he played in the Wellington U13 representative side) to Ipswich, Alec Poe Leota Mene has been outstanding.

In his first season in Australia which was for Red Bank Plains in the Ipswich Rugby League U14 competition he scored 23 tries from 14 appearances.

This season for Redbank Plains in the Ipswich Rugby League U15 competition Alec Poe Leota Mene has been even better, scoring in each of the opening 12 rounds of the competition.

He has scored hat tricks against Swifts Bluebirds and Karalee/Lowood (in consecutive rounds), doubles against Norths Blue twice and the Fassifern Bombers and has also scored in matches against Fassifern, Brothers Ipswich and the Springfield Panthers.

The Ipswich rugby league U15 competition contains a number of talented young players, including half/five eight, Khan Towler who plays for the Redbank Plains Bears and also attends Marsden State High School.

Through the opening twelve rounds of the U15 Ipswich competition, he is the leading point’s scorer with 102 and the equal leading try scorer with fifteen, only once not scoring in a match which was in Round One against Norths.

In his 21 tries, Khan Towler has scored hat tricks against Swifts Bluebirds on two occasions and scored doubles against Karlee/Lowood, the Springfield Panthers and Fassifern Bombers.

He has had some huge individual game tally’s this season including scoring 18 against Karlee/Lowood (two tries and five goals), 24 against Fassifern (two tries and eight goals) and 20 against Swifts (three tries and four goals).

I have been lucky enough to see a number of Norths Ipswich U14 matches this season as there are a number of young men linked to the Titans in the side and one player who has stood out on a number of occasions is centre Mutua Brown.

Through his first seven Ipswich Rugby League U14 matches this season, he has scored an impressive ten tries failing to score only in Round One against Goodna Black.

Mutua Brown has scored doubles against Ipswich Brothers twice, Springfield Panthers and Goodna Black. His other tries have come in matches against Redbank Red and Goodna Blue.

Mutau Brown has also played well this season for the Ipswich Grammar School U14A side in the GPS School Boy rugby competition, including scoring in Round Four on Saturday in a 17-0 win against Nudgee College.

Titans linked David Neller started on the left wing in the match.
