Powerful Goodna Black U14 centre Faits Tupai has been as good a player that I have seen in the Ipswich Rugby League U14 competition and through the first twelve rounds is the competitions leading try scorer with 16 tries from just eight games for a 200% strike rate.

Faits Tupai had a huge match against Redbank Red in Round Ten scoring six tries and kicking four conversions for an individual points haul in that match alone of 32.

He has also scored hat tricks against the Springfield Panthers and Norths Blue and recorded a double against Goodna Blue.

Young Marist Saints centre Deine Reuben Mariner was an impressive performer for the Saints side that won the Auckland Open U16 Grand Final on the weekend and scored a powerful try in the second half.

In 2019 Deine Reuben Mariner also played some representative rugby league including playing for the Auckland Vulcans U16 side against a Future Warriors U16 selection.

Probably.the best player on the field in the Auckland U16 Open Grand Final was Marist Saints hooker Stanley Iongi

In addition to scoring two second half tries in the Grand Final he was a constant menace running out of dummy half.

To date in the 2019 Toowoomba Rugby League U18 competition (including Sunday’s Week One final) he has scored 27 tries from just 17 matches.

James Heinrich has scored four tries in a match on three occasions being against Goondiwindi, Oakey and Toowoomba Valleys as well as hat tricks against Brothers, Highfields and Sunday’s final.

He may be linked to Parramatta but if 17 year old five eight Joshua Chappell ever is gettable then the Titans should pounce.

He started the 2019 season off playing for the Western Mustangs in the MM Cup competition starting the opening four rounds at half and kicked 12 goals from 14 attempts (85.71%) including five from five in Round Two against the Northern Pride.

In the Toowoomba Rugby League U18 competition Joshua Chappell has played just seven matches but has to date scored 94 points from four tires and 39 goals, including two tries and six goals in Dalby’s U18 semi-final victory 40-22 against Gatton.

His other two U18 tries have come against Wattles and South Burnett.

With the boot he kicked 12 goals against Wattles in May (also scoring a try for a 28 point haul) and in addition to Sunday’s semi-final win has six goals in a match on three other occasions being against South Burnett, Highfields and Souths.

Joshua Chappell has also played one Reserve Grade match this season and at just 17 years old made his Toowoomba Rugby League First Grade debut against Oakey in June, scoring in that match as well.

Joshua Chappell has gone on to play an additional five First Grade matches and also scored against Goondiwindi.

Joshua Chappell has also kicked nine goals in First Grade including three in matches against Pittsworth and Goondiwindi.

It is scary to think that he is still U18 eligible in 2020.

17 year old Gunnedah hooker Liam Ireland has had a 2019 to remember moving through the grades in the Group Four competition all of the way to recently make his Group Four First Grade debut.

He started the season off in the Gorup Four U18 competition playing nine matches to date and scoring against the Kootingal Moonbi Roosters in two separate matches and the Dungowan Cowboys.

His promotion to the Group Four Reserve Grade competition came in mid May against the Kootingal Moonbi Roosters including scoring on debut. BBC outside centre and Queensland U18 Rugby League representative Jake Howarth was simply outstanding this afternoon scoring three tries but BBC went down 23-20 to the Southport School (TSS).

In the Group Four U18 competition this season probably the best centre on display was Narrabri’s Kaleb McMillan-Bassett who at the start of this season also played in five matches for the Greater Northern Tigers in the U18 Laurie Daley Cup competition.

In the Group Four U18 competition he is one of the leading try scorers in the competition scoring nine tries from ten matches, including doubles against the Kootingal Moonbi Roosters and Dungowan Cowboys.

Kaleb McMillan-Bassett also played in seven Group Four First Grade matches making his debut in late May against the North Tamworth Bears and scoring his first First Grade try a fortnight ago against the Dungowan Cowboys.
