    It's true

Gold Coast Titan Paul Carter busted drink driving hours after Greg Bird loses captaincy for public urination
EXCLUSIVE ROBYN WUTH & LUCY ARDERN
    GOLD COAST BULLETIN DECEMBER 15, 2014 12:44PM

EXCLUSIVE: GOLD Coast Titans player Paul Carter has been busted drink driving for the second time this year, adding to the club’s off-field behaviour dramas.

The Gold Coast Bulletin can reveal Carter was picked up in the early hours of Saturday morning by Gold Coast police when he was driving in Garfield Terrace, Surfers Paradise and later charged with a mid-range drink driving offence.

He has been charged with driving under the influence and disqualified driving, due to a previous drink driving offence when he lost his licence earlier this year.

Carter was stood down by the Titans in June after he was caught drink driving almost four times over the legal limit.

He is facing a stiff penalty from the courts for this second offence and may be stood down from the Titans.

The Titans will hold a press conference at 2pm.

The incident happened within hours of disgraced former co-captain Greg Bird’s fall from grace, when the club stripped him of his leadership title after he was charged with urinating in public at Byron Bay.

Carter was Titans Rookie of the Year this year after joining the club from the Canterbury Buldogs last pre-season.

He is the son of Penrith legend Steve Carter.

They will have no choice but to sack him.......anything else will seem too soft and would not be a good look. What a shame! Such a waste!!

Another 3 steps back in finding a major sponsor! Perhaps Nathan Lion? It sounds like we endorse their product enough!

Time to make a stance I am afraid. He should be sacked - but the Titans should get an assurance that the NRL will not register him with another club for at least 2015. Nothing is worse than what the Raiders had to cop when they sack blokes and later in the year those players are playing against them.
Carter is obviously as thick as two planks which was becoming obvious in the big head way he was starting to carry on on the field.

Not a good look when we are trying to get a main sponsor. First Bird and now Carter. Bloody hell we don't need this after such a positive pre season.

Statement from Titans CEO Graham Annesley
    Mon 15th December, 01:20PM

Gold Coast Titans CEO, Graham Annesley, was last night advised that Titans player Paul Carter was arrested in the early hours of Saturday morning and subsequently charged with mid-range drink driving whilst unlicenced.

This incident follows a similar charge for drink driving in June which resulted in the cancellation of his driver’s licence by the Courts, as well as a $12,000 fine and a 2 match suspension imposed by the club.

After consulting with the Gold Coast Titans Board of Directors last night and earlier today, the club has formally notified Mr Carter of its intention to terminate his playing contract subject to his right to appear before the Board later this week should he wish to do so.

There will be no further comment from the Club until this process has been completed.

Gone are the days of 'Mr Nice Guy' club in the Cartwright era. Annersley and Henry not letting incidents like these ruin our image by not sacking them. Finally the club has grown a set with new management.

As Annesley said himself the player/s need to take some responsibility themselves for the predicament they find themselves after making some very poor decisions. It is a sad and disappointing outcome for everyone involved and I hope this young man can get his stuff together and move forward with his life regardless of whether it involves footy or not.

This would have been an easy decision for the club to make. He had to go. Played with very poor discipline on the field and obviously had absolutely none off it.

As somebody else mentioned, the ball is now in the NRL's court - he needs to be deregistered for 2015 at the very least. HQ has been very firm on Carney and Fergusonso hopefully they are equally hard on this guy.

I am so disappointed and angry at Carter. We give him a chance at first grade when the Doggies didn't want to and this is how he repays us?!?

Agree that he should be de-registered from the NRL for at least 12 months just like Ferguson was.

Another wasted talent. On the upside, we kept Srama.
