THE Hull KR bid to sign Gold Coast Titans hooker Matt Srama will not be a straightforward affair as they face competition for his signature from several NRL sides.

Despite signing a new two-year deal just five months ago, the 23-year-old has emerged as a target for the Robins after falling out of favour under new coach Neil Henry.

Rovers boss Chris Chester has already raided the Titans to bring in half-backs Albert Kelly and Maurice Blair and has admitted having an interest in the Polish passport holder.

But he knows Srama still wants to prove himself in the NRL and admits the lure of doing so could rule Rovers out of the equation.

"Matt is on our list and we're aware he's available," Chester told the Mail.

"I obviously have a good relationship with Neil Henry and we speak regularly.

"He made me aware a few weeks ago that Matt was available.

"We are actively looking for another new nine and he is a very good player in the NRL.

"The problem we face is there are a few other NRL clubs quite keen on him. We're hopeful we can get to speak to him and then try to entice him over to Hull KR."

Although the Robins have brought in French hooker John Boudebza from Lezignan, they would like a more experienced replacement for the departed Josh Hodgson.

Shaun Lunt has been heavily linked in the past, but there appears to be no chance of him leaving Huddersfield, where he has two years left on his deal.

Srama underwent surgery to correct a congenital defect in his hip and groin eight weeks ago, but he is known to be making good progress in his recovery.

But although Rovers are in the frame, Srama's agent has admitted he would prefer to join a club Down Under or fight for his place at Gold Coast.

"Matt has met with Neil Henry and they've told him he is free to go," said Srama's brother and manager Paul in The Courier Mail.

"There is a contract for him in the UK if he wants to go and the Titans would give him an extra $50,000 if he wanted to play over there.

"But Matt is not really keen on moving overseas at this stage. He's just bought a new home.

"We'll look around and see if there is interest from NRL clubs but ideally Matt is keen to break back into the Titans."

Srama was labelled as a potential State of Origin hooker after superb 2011 and 2012 seasons, but a series of shoulder and groin injuries restricted him to just six games last season.
