HENRY SET TO MAKE KEY STAFF APPOINTMENTS

THE REBUILDING of the Titans is in full swing with coach Neil Henry on the cusp of making four key staff appointments.
Two assistant coaches, a recruitment manager and a conditioner are the positions the Titans will be looking to fill.
A sweeping internal review of Titans operations was conducted by independent sports administrator Dave Arthur who presented his findings to the Titans board last week.
The Titans staff will be given a presentation of the findings on Friday.
The Titans have already announced they will be moving their training base to Coomera in 2016.
Henry’s task over the next three years will be to return the club to finals football and he has spoken to the board and CEO Graham Annesley about the football club’s budget moving forward.
Former assistant coach Trevor Gillmeister has left the club and Henry is keen to have a full complement of staff in place sooner rather than later.
“Within our budget I have been looking at our staffing and personnel for the football department in conjunction with (football manager) Scott Clark,” Henry tells RLW.
“We still need to look at our assistant coaches, a recruitment manager and maybe a conditioning position.
“We start training early in November so when you talk about relocating people we need to get moving with those positions.
“But there is no panic.
“There are plenty of people out here looking for full-time work in rugby league.
“I have been talking to people about positions and what we can offer.”
Henry has praised the work of Gillmeister, but adds that other key staff will remain on board.
“Gilly has been with the organisation since day one, with Carty (former coach John Cartwright), and there has been a change-up there,” he says.
“That is not to undervalue by any means Gilly’s contribution to the club over a long period of time. He has been fantastic.
“I suppose change is inevitable in organisations. There has been a change of the coach and there will be a change of some staff as well.
“Other staff will stay in place.
“It is not a massive football department.
“Ben Woolf is still coaching the NYC program. Jamie McCormack is still overseeing our elite player development and our academies. Dan Ferris is our strength and conditioning guy.
“Our medical team stays the same with our physio and doctors, so there is not a lot of change.”
Filling the recruitment manager position is vital.
The club has lost that connection with player managers and the grass roots as a result of not having the position filled.
When player managers are looking for someone to ring they need to have a hotline to a respected recruitment manager.
“Carty said publicly that being enable to fund that position and get it right is what was needed, so we are looking at filling that role and getting something sorted shortly,” Henry says.
Henry is not anticipating any structural changes within the football department that would prevent him doing his job.
“The review was mainly about looking at the organisation,” he says.
“It wasn’t focused on football.
“It was focused on the whole organisation and in particular the front office … marketing, sponsorship, ticketing and membership were thrown in the mix to have a look at how we are structured and what could be changed or improved in those areas.
“I am going ahead and recruiting and looking at staff and personnel for the football department.
“I have a budget for that, and that hasn’t changed.”
The Titans do not have as big a budget as other clubs so Henry has to work within the parameters of the funds that are available.
“We have to work within a budget that is fairly tight,” he says.
“Having three or four strength and conditioning staff and a video analyst that other clubs have … that won’t happen.
“We don’t have the latitude to be staffed as well as other clubs, but we are not disadvantaged.
“There are other clubs out there that have the same sort of issues.”
