Four reasons to escape to Queensland: Sun, Surf, Sand & the Titans.
Sheens? Sheens? How many more high-priced retirees do we need on the Coast? ... we already have a team and club full of them.
Four reasons to escape to Queensland: Sun, Surf, Sand & the Titans.
I read recently that Sheens and the Tigers have settled their dispute so we would be paying.
Not sure what to think of the possibility of Sheens coming here. If Henry doesn't get the job I would expect he would be off whenever another opportunity comes up and I really wonder why we brought Henry here.
The options for Griffin for next year must be very limited. There is us and maybe the Tigers, any one else? If he doesn't get a head gig surely he would be open to an assistant role for 12 months?
Interim Gold Coast coach Neil Henry to knock off Tim Sheens for top job

NEIL Henry is set to oust Tim Sheens for the Titans’ coaching post despite the Australian mentor receiving a glowing endorsement from former Gold Coast skipper Scott Prince.
In a boost for Henry ahead of today’s clash against the Warriors, The Sunday Mail understands the Titans caretaker will be formally installed as head coach on Wednesday.
But deciding on John Cartwright’s successor was a difficult task for the Titans board, who fielded a number of quality applications, including one from the highly-acclaimed Sheens.
The 63-year-old steered the Kangaroos to World Cup glory last year but harbours a desire to coach in the NRL again despite his bitter split with Wests Tigers two years ago.
Sheens has support to preside over a rebuilding of the Titans, with Prince having spruiked the coach’s talents after the pair piloted the Tigers to a fairytale title in 2005.
But it is believed the Titans board is leaning towards Henry, who is highly regarded by the playing group and has impressed with his strategic vision for the embattled club.
The Titans board met on Friday to discuss a range of matters, including the contenders for the coaching post. Sheens was in Queensland on the same day, casting his eye over several Australian aspirants at the Broncos-Dragons clash at Suncorp Stadium.
Henry will have more clarity over his future in the next 72 hours, but for now his immediate focus is producing a credible performance against the Warriors in Auckland.
The Titans are already without six forwards Nate Myles, Dave Taylor, Luke Douglas, Ashley Harrison, Ryan James and Ben Ridge and Luke Bailey (neck) is the latest to join the casualty list.
In Bailey’s absence, utility Brad Takairangi moves into the forwards, while David Mead makes a timely return at centre, where he will mark Warriors monster Konrad Hurrell.
Despite his depleted squad, Henry challenged his band of fit troops to play for the Titans jumper at Mt Smart Stadium.
“It’s an individual responsibility to be up for a game of footy. It’s not up to someone else to motivate you,” Henry said.
“We’re a bits-and-pieces team at the moment. Bails’ neck is not right so we really are a bit light on.
“I think we’re down to 20 or 21 players in the squad that are available to play but there’s no excuse for lack of effort or lack of intensity on the field.”
Meanwhile, another injured player, Matt Srama, is out to reclaim his status as the Titans’ No.1 hooker after undergoing surgery to correct a “congenital” defect in his hip and groin.
Srama went under the knife a fortnight ago to have his hip-joints shaved and groin muscles lengthened to alleviate pain that has plagued him since his mid-teens.
A shoulder ailment has restricted the 23-year-old to just six games this season, but hip and groin issues could have derailed his longer-term future at the Titans.
“Since Matt was 16, he was having some groin and hip trouble and initially it was put down to some growing pains. But basically it was a structural problem that had to be fixed,” said his brother and manager Paul Srama.
“He’s relieved more than anything. People might say Matt’s plagued by injuries but this is not career threatening, it can be fixed.”
Titans physiotherapist Greg Condon expects Srama to report for pre-season in November at peak fitness.
“It’s a bit of a congenital hip problem for want of a better term,” Condon said.
“It’s the way Matt grows. If he gets the op now he’ll be right for the next off-season so he’ll be good to go in November.”
I'm not big on the whole "Tim Sheens coming to the Titans to coach" thing, give Henry a good two years to prove himself at the Titans.
Sheens has had his time, just like Bennett. We need to move forward as a code, in the playing and coaching departments.
In regard to Griffin making bad choices with team selections, to his credit..he does know how to mentor the young talent, and plus..I think it would be sweet sweet sweet revenge for him against News LTD, if he was on board to take us to a premiership. News Ltd. basically dumped him and News Ltd. back in 2009/2010 did cause a lot of headaches for the Titans.
But, yes..a Henry/Griffin combo needs to happen asap.
Agreed that Henry deserves a chance to give the head coaching role a crack. You are right about Griffin developing juniors. He has done great things at the Broncos with the young players and I am not taking that away from him. I don't see Griffin coming here as an assistant. Why be an assistant if you could possibly land a head coach role at another club.
It'd be a lot easier to sack a few players if we had some strong juniors coming through.

Neil Henry has been appointed the Gold Coast Titans coach for the next three years

Neil Henry has been appointed the new Gold Coast Titans coach for the next three years.
NEIL Henry has been appointed Gold Coast Titans coach for the next three years.
Henry will become the club’s second coach following the resignation of foundation mentor John Cartwright last month after nearly eight years in the position.
Do you think he will do a good job? Let us know in the comments below
An option of a fourth year pending performance criteria is met is also believed to be part of the contract.
The appointment will be made official at a 2.45pm press conference this afternoon.
Henry has been acting as caretaker coach since Cartwright’s resignation.
The Titans are yet to win a game under Henry but have been crushed by a horror injury toll.
Sunday’s final game of the season against Canterbury at Cbus Super Stadium will be Henry’s first game officially as full-time head coach.
The 53-year-old joined the Titans this season as an assistant to Cartwright after five years at North Queensland.
He took the Cowboys to three straight finals appearances but was sacked by the club with the Titans luring him to the Gold Coast.
Henry coached Canberra for two years prior to his Cowboys stint as was also an assistant to Mal Meninga during the early years of Queensland’s eight-year Origin dynasty.
Now the difficulty will be refraining from reacting too harshly as we look for an improved performance from our "team". I suggest we all shut up until next season because it is now out of our hands and we were the most vocal for a change and we've sort of got it.
We can discuss player retention, junior development, club infrastructure, recruitment and what we can do for our club to our hearts' content and abuse other clubs.
