Based on the performances of some players today it is clear that changes need to be made in our lineup. Youth such as Moseley, Elgey and Hazard are just a select few who should be replacing the non-performers in our team. Zillman showed that he only focuses on training and still looks like the same ****ty player, Mortimer played shocking and made it clear that Elgey is our future halfback if Henry has any idea. Falloon is decent but Moseley is dangerous and is a better all rounded player that is our future hooker. Obviously the trials will be a bigger deciding factor because the nines is not a real 13 v 13 game, however at this point my team would look like:

    1. Hoffman
    2. Don/Fai-Fai Loa
    3. Roberts
    4. Crampton/Don
    5. Mead
    6. Sezer
    7. Elgey
    8. Douglas
    9. Moseley
    10. James
    11. Bird
    12. Taylor
    13. Myles

    14. Hala
    15. Ioane
    16. Burr
    17. Pettybourne

Hoffman was one of the better players on the park for us in the nines and he should (and most likely will) get first crack at the fullback spot. Don/KFFL and Mead should be our wingers as they usually all perform well, Roberts did less than expected at the nines but should still get the centre spot along with Crampton/? or Don if he doesn't play wing. Sezer still deserves his spot at this point but Hazard/Fogarty are biting at his heels. Elgey showed today what sort of player he is. By the looks of it he has bulked up a bit and can hold his own in defence. Mortimer played shocking and showed he is not first grade starting halfback material. Douglas and James are workhorses and if James can get the penalties + errors out of his game he will improve. Moseley IS and SHOULD BE the starting hooker. He, similiar to Elgey, showed he can defend well and add spark to our attack. Bird and Taylor are backrowers as they both played well last year there. Myles is lock because I'm just not sure he can still add the impact in the second-row like he used to (he admitted this himself). He is more of a workhorse in the middle of the park but not a prop as he can't give us any momentum there. The bench I named can add impact and strength with Hala, Pettybourne, Burr and Ioane.

I generally agree with your posts T4L and you have qualified your comments by saying "based on the performance of some players today" but I think it is ridiculous to pick an NRL team based on two games of 9's. Yep Zilly was as bad as ever and Morts was terrible but even though Elgey and Moseley's efforts were ok (in my view not much better than ok) I think we need to be careful not to kill these guys too early. I hope they make it but lets see how they go in the trials.
Yes, there were some signs that things looked despairingly like last year but I think we should see what the trials produce. But yeah, I doubt that if any people were considering buying a membership before today, they have been spending the night studying seating plans at CBus.

I understand but you mustn't have read where I said "trials will be a bigger deciding factor as nines isn't a proper 13 v 13 game." I know a lot of us are putting a lot of faith in Elgey and Moseley but something has to change in the lineup. Mortimer hasn't played a really good game for us yet and I am not a fan of Falloon at this point. I will give them a chance in the trials but I just don't see them as the players to take us forward atm.

Chill out T4L. There were a lot more positives to take out of this years 9's performance than last year - most notably that we improved so much from the first day to the second. Not to mention the fact that there were no serious injuries this year!!

    Two points:
    1. Elgey and Moseley are a long way off being ready for first grade.
    2. Mortimer was nowhere near as bad as you make out.

This 9's stuff means nothing. We have a lot to work on to be competitive at real, 13-a-side football, so I would have been really concerned if we looked slick and polished in this format because that would have indicated that we dedicated time to training for it. We can't afford to do that. When the Tigers roll into town in 4 weeks or so, we will be a hell of a lot more competitive then, with established NRL players in our squad, than we were in Auckland.

I'm going with T4L on this one. Mortimer at the Nines was woeful. In that format Elgey was all over it. I would have thought that Moseley would be off the bench Rd 1 with Falloon starting so I hope he can get ready for NRL level in 4 weeks. As for Nines meaning nothing, to our club, the difference in taking home $110k or $370k is immense. We sent a team over that should have won that comp and at the very least got to the semi's so when the club is struggling to attract members, fans and sponsors alike I'd say the Nines has a huge impact.
Bring on the trials and bring on round one so we can redeem ourselves against the tigers from last year and from that forgettable Nines match on Saturday.

Personally I prefer one specialist hooker in the team 17. Whether it's Moseley or Falloon I think they should make a call and if they can't go the 80 minutes then another player (Mortimer?) can fill in while they have a breather. I think the bench generally needs to be 3 or 4 bigger forwards with perhaps one utility type that can cover backline spots if you cop an injury to a back.

Absolutely no doubt MT ... we lack agression and size so our forwards will get burned earlier than most ... plus we need creativity ... Moseley or Srama and I just don't rate Falloon on the back of his 2014 finish.
