GOLD Coast Titans coach John Cartwright has quit his role while club co-owner Michael Searle has also resigned from the board.

Cartwright, the team’s inaugural coach, fell on his sword this morning as the Titans face missing the finals for the fourth consecutive year.

Searle, who founded the club and owns 40 per cent of the NRL franchise, has resigned from the board and his role as executive director of football.

UPDATE: JOHN Cartwright has resigned as Gold Coast Titans coach while co-owner Michael Searle will relinquish all power at the embattled club.

Inaugural coach Cartwright fell on his sword today as the Titans face missing the finals for the fourth consecutive season.

Players and staff were alerted to the decision at a 2pm meeting and it will be made official at a 4pm press conference.

Cartwright’s assistant, former Cowboys coach Neil Henry, will take over for the remainder of the season.

Former boss Searle, who founded the club in 2007, fell on his sword today following years of public backlash.


Gold Coast Titans co-owner Michael Searle has resigned from club board.
Searle built the doomed Centre of Excellence building at Robina which sent the club into a debt of $25 million.

Searle has stepped down from his role on the club’s board and as executive director of football. He will retain his 40 per cent share in the club.

The resignations of Searle and Cartwright are the end of an era for the Titans.

BREAKING NEWS: THERE are reports this afternoon that Gold Coast Titans coach John Cartwright has just resigned, along with club co-owner Michael Searle.
It’s understood a major press conference has been scheduled for around 4pm this afternoon where further details will be released.
