Something to add to my original post about the review:

One of the key ideas put forward by just about EVERYBODY was ACCOUNTABILITY. What's the first thing in the paper that Neil Henry is supposedly bringing to the Titans... You guessed it.

Is it just me or is ironic that Searle has demonstrated a lack of accounting ability and accountability?

With the major problems now gone. I'm very optimistic that this review can really zero in on the important things and what our club has been lacking. Without wasting time too toeing around the obvious.

I've been thinking about this lately too. But figured it could also take a while to get to the bottom of 8 years of (possible) book fiddling as well.. :shrugs:

Agree but I don't think they are doing forensic accounting but rather doing the structural work-over ... should have finished weeks ago, imho.

The review was commissioned by the board for their benefit. There is no reason to think that all the findings will be disclosed to the public. This was a question asked on the night. It's up to the board what they choose to disclose.

They should release something, even if it's just an overview. It would be an opportunity to do something positive just when people are thinking of renewing.

The whole point is that although it is an internal review they went very public with the process so of course there is an expectation, and a very high expectation considering the media it has received.

And how about this? Say no more ....

What they did right: Like they do every season the Titans started like a house on fire, confounding statisticians by winning games without dazzling numbers. Six wins from the first eight games were pretty much the only thing that stopped the Titans collecting the spoon.

What they did wrong: Bad financial management, failing to make the most of the exceptional rugby league nursery on their doorstep, and attacking structures so poor only Cronulla scored fewer points.

Best player: Greg Bird — his form tailed off a bit at the end of the season, but in the rare games they won he was inevitably the man responsible for dragging his side over the line.

Most disappointing player: After starting the season like a house on fire, blistering halfback Albert Kelly’s season fizzed out, mainly due to his continued battle with obscure injuries that include a form of varicose veins.

Surprise packet: Paul Carter — A mid-season drink driving offence was the only blot on an otherwise impressive season for the 22-year-old backrower.

Key events: When John Cartwright parted ways with the Titans late in the season, along with club founder Michael Searle, the spotlight was on the mismanagement that had led the Titans to this point.

Three years into a five-year contract, Cartwright was a respected figure at the club and in the game but after taking the Titans to the 2010 preliminary final, the club’s fortunes went south.

Tales of mounting debts followed Searle’s exit and the Titans’ woefully undernourished playing roster saw a battling good start quickly give way to a grim fight for survival.

NRL CEO Dave Smith actually praised the club’s restraint in not spending 100 per cent of the salary cap — but with the Titans owing something in the region of $25 million, it’s clear the Gold Coast board took their eye off the ball and are now paying the price.

Injuries to key players also took their toll but every club has to deal with those. The Titans’ lack of strength in depth was made clear in the Round 25 42-0 walloping by the Warriors, highlighting the size of the task ahead of new coach Neil Henry.

One thing that needs to be dealt with is the fact that we have really only two board members. The third board member is overseas and has very little to do with it so that only leaves Frizelle and the the other guy.

It's very hard to have some serious conversations with differing views and ideas with just two on the board.

With the $25 Million debt issue, maybe Titans should reduce their wage structure further, play those who have performed @ Seagulls & Bears, and focus a couple of seasons on rebuilding the junior nursery.

Matt Srama being the last Titans junior to graduate in 2011 is simply not good enough.
