Default Sharp resigns as Sharks coach

Sharks NRL coach Peter Sharp has resigned from his position effective immediately.

After accepting his resignation late yesterday, Sharks CEO Steve Noyce expressed his appreciation to Sharp for stepping into the head coaching role this season in what were extremely challenging circumstances.

“While very sad to see him go it was fitting that Peter departs on his own terms, that being on the back of a record-breaking comeback win for the club last Friday night in Brisbane,” Noyce said.

“The club certainly appreciates his efforts in what has been a very difficult season and while he may have expressed a reluctance to take on the role when first handed the reins, once appointed Peter worked exceptionally hard and always acted in the best interests of the players and the club.”

In announcing his resignation, Sharp was of the belief the decision was the correct one for both himself and for the Cronulla club.

“I’ve certainly enjoyed my time at the Sharks and I’ve met a number of wonderful people. I thank the Sharks for the opportunity both as an assistant and as the head coach, even with the challenges we’ve faced this year,” Sharp said. “But I think the decision I’ve made to step down is in the best interests of the club and I believe for me it is in my best interests as well.

“I hope the players can fulfill their potential and finish the season on a positive note.”

The Sharks will appoint and announce a coaching replacement in the coming days.

Would this have anything to do with how Carney was treated... Many circles in league believe he was harshly punished...

Sharp is anything but and Carney is a clown ... the next time we read about him should be when he is interviewed on the 50th anniversary of when he won his Dally M.

Regretably, the way he lives his life, he will be dead by then. I don't mean to sound hard but I really fear for him. A train wreck on the way if there ever was one.
Carty must love the Sharks as they are keeping the Titans out of the papers.

Hopefully they will approach Carty as a temporary head coach until Flanagan returns

Heard strong news today that Steve Price is a possibility for Sharks interim head coach and may be assistant to Flanno when he returns.

Sharks are such a basket case. Why would anyone sign with them? I think they will struggle to land a major sponsor at market rates.
