Panthers Executive General Manager Phil Gould has tonight announced that player Jamal Idris will be taking a break from rugby league, effective immediately.
The club has been working closely with the NRL this week to put a support system in place to help Jamal deal with some personal issues.
The club stresses that this matter has nothing to do with disciplinary action.
The Panthers and the NRL are fully supportive of Jamal and will be assisting him during this important period.
On behalf of Jamal and his family, the Panthers club would like to request that everyone respect their privacy at this time.

Jamal Idris will take a break from rugby league effectively immediately to address personal issues according to a statement made by the Panthers.
Panthers Executive General Manager Phil Gould has tonight announced that player Jamal Idris will be taking a break from rugby league, effective immediately.
The club has been working closely with the NRL this week to put a support system in place to help Jamal deal with some personal issues.

Jamal Idris stood down
I see in the paper today that Jamal was stood down for an alcohol related incident last weekend on the, wait for it, Gold Coast......... I though he ran away from here to be with mummy and now he is running back to hit the piss......

getting rid of jamal is probably one of the best moves the club ever made. the guy had no self control when he came to his weight, he was a regular at jupiters and had a serious gambling problem. also saw him on several occasions absolutely sloshed in surfers paradise. could barely walk he was that pissed. not to mention the amount of money he was costing the club and being a complete flop.

I didn't know anything about his issues. Figured out that the release on compassionate grounds was family related, but apparently, there was so much more...Aiming for the title farthest away fan

On LU forum they are saying that Idris will be released from Penrith altogether. No club linked to him.
