Isn't Zillman eligible for QLD? Why not give him the jersey he has deserved for a long time?

One day DB.... one day in the future it MIGHT happen unless we get another JC-like coach. Then we are done for.

Good job derailing this thread moron. Bowen to FB, Tonga to the Centers and Lillyman on the bench is a must for game 2.

Thanks mate . Yeah let's bring in an overweight 30+ year old, another 30+ year old centre and Lillyman is average. Looking towards the future ain't you.

By the way, Erin Molan just tweeted that Inglis has been cleared of ankle syndesmosis. @Erin_Molan: "Great news for QLD fans with Inglis cleared of Syndesmosis. Stretched old scar tissue and swollen - will battle to be fit for Origin still."

That's fantastic news Titan4Life. I hope he can be fit for Game 2 and feature much more prominently.

    Here's an article I found:
Dane Gagai looms as a bolter as Queensland’s wounded Origin team names an extended squad
    Todd Balym and Michael Westlake
    The Courier-Mail
    June 09, 2014 12:00AM

FROM exile to X-factor, Newcastle star Dane Gagai looms as a shock bolter as Queensland’s wounded Origin team is forced to name an extended squad.

With major question marks over star fullback Billy Slater (shoulder), centre Greg Inglis (ankle) and halfback Daly Cherry Evans (knee) Maroons coach Mal Meninga will name a 21-man squad in Brisbane.

Not since the Maroons listed TBA on the wing in 2002 has there been such uncertainty surrounding a Queensland team and Meninga’s nerves will be further tested in Brisbane with five players — Sam Thaiday, Corey Parker, Matt Gillett, Justin Hodges and Josh Papalii — yet to safely navigate NRL action.

For now the main concerns are Slater and Inglis although Storm officials believe Slater has made “remarkable” progress and could be ready for June 18.

Inglis had scans on a possible ankle syndesmosis injury upon return from Perth and while he has been able to put some weight on his leg, he looks extremely unlikely to play next week.

Cherry-Evans has been medically cleared of further knee damage and certain to get his first starting gig as the Queensland No.7.

“We will pick a squad, and see who is left standing basically,” Meninga told The Courier-Mail.

“We just have too many question marks in the air at the moment to be able to settle on a team this early.

“Billy and Daly both say they are a good chance of being right, so we will give them every chance to prove themselves.

“Greg is obviously a bit of an unknown … there are some positive signs. I spoke briefly with the South Sydney medical staff and they are saying he has been able to put weight on the ankle, which is at least a positive sign.”

If both are ruled out Darius Boyd would wear the No. 1 jersey with Will Chambers to debut at centre and Newcastle’s Gagai to get his first Origin start on the wing.

If Cherry-Evans is also unfit to play, Brisbane’s Ben Hunt could get his chance for the Maroons.

Hunt may even be named so the Maroons can train while Cherry-Evans continues his recovery.

Given the injury problems and mass changes in the squad, Meninga needs extra players like Hunt and Gagai simply to train with a full team this week.

Incredibly Gagai’s opportunity could come just five months after he was heavily chastised by Meninga for breaking camp in Brisbane.
Typically the Maroons take a very dim view of behavioural issues when on state duty, but such is the dire situation facing Queensland’s outside backs that Meninga is willing to forgive.

“Dane definitely comes into the frame for us, we have had a high opinion of him for a long time,” Meninga said.

“If it looks like both Billy and Greg miss out, then it would make sense that Darius goes back to fullback, and Dane has appeal for us to replace him on the wing if we need him.

“I think wing is his best position. He obviously brings good height and a terrific leap along with his general play, and he spent a lot of time on the wing early in his career so he knows what is required.”

North Queensland’s Michael Morgan and Canberra’s Anthony Milford were both discussed as potential fullback options, leaving Boyd on the wing, but a rookie fullback was considered a far bigger gamble than a new face on the flanks.

“There is no doubt that they are going to be great players for us in the future. But in this game, in this situation of it being a must-win and away from home, we also probably need to lean on experience a bit,” he said.

“I don’t know if throwing them into the Origin cauldron and making their debut in these circumstances would be the best thing for them.

“Having said that, you never know how a player responds to Origin until they are given a chance, so they are both certainly still in the equation.”

Likely squad: Billy Slater, Darius Boyd, Greg Inglis, Justin Hodges, Brent Tate, Johnathan Thurston, Daly Cherry Evans, Matt Scott, Cameron Smith, Nate Myles, Chris McQueen, Sam Thaiday, Corey Parker, Matt Gillett, Ben Te’o, Aidan Guerra, Josh Papalii, Jake Friend, Will Chambers, Dane Gagai, Ben Hunt.

So many walking wounded. It makes me worried. QLD cant afford to be even a man down during the game. I hope they are truly fit.

Yep tough times for us Queenslanders but the boys will put in a big effort. If there is one team that can win in tough times it is the mighty Maroons.

No ****en Taylor again. I get the way QLD do things, but you can't deny a man in Taylor's form. Go NSW.

I can see Slater being out of the game but not Inglis. Inglis to fullback whilst Boyd and Tate take the wing spots.

    1. Inglis
    2. Boyd
    3. Chambers
    4. Hodges
    5. Tate

I could see that being the backline..

Why pick Lillyman?? He is old and doesn't offer much. At least Taylor makes tackle busts and has offloads. Loyalty has made Queensland the great team they are today but we have to start looking to the future. Josh McGuire and Dave Taylor are two in particular that cruelly missed selection. Oh well here's hoping we see:
    1. Slater/Inglis
    2. Boyd
    3. Inglis/Chambers
    4. Hodges
    5. Tate
    6. Thurston
    7. DCE
    8. Scott
    9. Smith (c)
    10. Myles
    11. McQueen
    12. Thaiday
    13. Parker

    14. Gillett
    15. Papalii
    16. Te'o
    17. Guerra
