David Mead is the latest NRL star to spark an eligibility debate with the Titans’ man-of-the-moment revealing his preference to represent Queensland in State of Origin. Fresh from his scorching 99-metre solo try to sink the Broncos, Mead can illustrate why he is a potential Origin star against Penrith on Monday night at Centrebet Stadium.

Mead has already had a taste of international football, playing for Papua New Guinea at last year’s World Cup, but the Titans flyer admits he dreams of playing Origin.

And thanks to the code’s revamped representative eligibility laws, the door is ajar for Mead to play in the code’s toughest arena.

The 25-year-old is permitted one election change between World Cup cycles. Under Origin’s eligibility criteria, Mead ticks four out of five boxes for NSW, effectively qualifying him for the Blues.

But there is one small problem . . . like Keary, Mead’s heart is with the Maroons.

& just like Keary neither will be playing Origin anytime soon
